NOTES

During an Automated Track Inspection Program (ATIP) survey, data is collected by the ATIP cars, which generate aTrack Geometry Inspection Report (TGIR). These reports make the analysis of the track easier to read and comprehendthan attempting to read exceptions from a video strip chart alone. TGIR are generated electronically for printing in nearreal-time onboard the ATIP cars or can be reprocessed later upon request to the FRA. Copies are transmittedelectronically as a Portable Document Format (PDF) using satellite or Internet communications. Copies are distributed asfollows:

1.One copy is given to the railroad2.Two copies are given to the principal FRA Inspector3.One copy is sent to the FRA Washington headquarters

TGIR consists of five separate sections. Exceptions are not reported for Profile and Alignment when ATIP car speed isless than five (5) and fifteen (15) mile per hour, respectively. The sample interval for track surveyed is one (1) foot.
