Using birth, death, marriage, and divorce records they will show you how they traced Kurt Cobain’s family tree. ese same steps can be used to trace your Washington ancestors. Tracing your ancestors has become an increasingly popular trend and people from all over the country have been using our collections of microfilmed newspapers (many of which date back to the late 1800’s), city directories, and pre-1907 birth and death registers that cover most of Washington. Anyone is welcome to come to the library to use these records, as well as the many other genealogy resources in our collection. We also offer a free obituary lookup service. If you are unable to come to the library in person you can submit specific obituary requests to the library’s web site: http://www.secstate.wa.gov/library/ask_form.aspx. You will leave this presentation with an overview of what vital records are available and where they are located, as well contact information for our genealogy department.
