The Chamber celebrated the Grand Opening of BrightStar Senior Living with owners JeffTews and Susan Rather and their staff on November 27th with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.Abutted next to a preserved wooded area of the village, the community, located at 1001Quinn Dr. in Waunakee, offers a natural setting in suburban Dane County. The communityoffers assisted living, memory care and person-centered care. It mimics its sister communityin Madison with its attractive two-story residential design. Visitors are greeted by a welcomingopen floor plan, glass fireplace and well-appointed furnishings. The most impressive features:the warm greetings and personalized welcome you receive from the community staff andresidents. Welcome to Waunakee BrightStar!

WIN-ING at Waunakee Neighborhood Connection

The Women's Involved Network met at Waunakee Neighborhood Connection (WNC) onNovember 28th to learn about current WNC programs and future plans from their newExecutive Director, Lisa Humenik. WNC is a social service agency that improves the lives ofour neighbors by engaging the whole community in meeting people's needs and connectingthem to resources. The group got to ask questions and learn how to get involved. Thank youto Lisa for welcoming us to WNC and to all who attended. WIN will meet again in January,details coming!

Members on the Move

Waunakee Neighborhood Connection in collaboration with Waunakee Intermediate Schooland the Waunakee Community, is proud to offer their Annual Free Christmas Dinner toindividuals, families and seniors who live in the Waunakee School District or the Town ofDane, that are in need and would appreciate some extra help this Christmas. RegistrationDeadline is Friday, December 7th, call 920-849-5740 or email [email protected] tosign up. Delivery is December 15th. The Waunakee Police Department will join other departments in Dane County for theirannual Shop With a Cop holiday event on December 2nd. Children are selected from manyschools throughout Dane County by a Shop With a Cop committee which consists of variousofficers from different agencies and school social workers. In Waunakee, Officers pick upeach child in a squad car and accompany them to Target in Madison to go shopping for giftsfor their family and themselves. The children and officers then travel to a VFW in Madison towrap presents and enjoy lunch together. In order to continue the success of this program, theWPD needs the generous support of individuals and businesses. If you would like to make a

Thank you foryour generosity! The Waunakee Senior Center invites you to come sing, strum, or just listen as theWaunakee Ukulele Strummers play favorite Holiday Songs on December 7th at 12:30pm. Lyrics will be projected onto a large screen to sing along. Lunch will be served just prior tothis special holiday event. Make your reservation by calling 849-8385 no later than 2pmDecember 6th. There is no charge for the program; a donation is requested for the meal. The Village of Waunakee is in the process of completing a downtown parking study. Thestudy is to provide data on the current and future parking needs in the downtown. The finalreport will provide information about the capacity and use of existing parking facilities in thedowntown. As part of the process we are seeking input from the public and businessowners. The survey is intended to create opportunities to hear from people who parkdowntown, understand business parking needs, and develop parking strategies that supportcommunity goals for economic development, housing, and transportation in our downtown.The survey has 8 questions and 1 comment column which takes about 2-5 minutes to finish.Your feedback is important and will be included in our analysis; submissions will be accepteduntil November 30, 2018. This complimentary excursion for seniors age 55+ will travel through theneighborhoods of Waunakee then end with a trip through the beautifully decorated Rotary inLight's display in Village Park! Pick up and drop off locations include: the Waunakee SeniorCenter at 5pm, Cannery Row Apts. at 5:05pm, Century Commons at 5:10pm and CountryView Apts at 5:15 pm. Please contact the senior center at 608-849-8385 to make reservationsno later than Thursday, December 6th.

First Presbyterian Church will once again host their Live Nativity on Saturday, December 15and Sunday, December 16 from 5:00-8:00pm. For over twenty years, FPC has shared thismajestic scene for thousands of visitors to drive through, complete with cast members,bonfires, shepherds and sheep. Come view the Reason for the Season at 5763 Cty Road Qin Waunakee. For more information on FPC's offerings, please visit www.myfpc.org. Waunakee Area EMS will celebrate 40 years of volunteer service to the community in 2019.The WWDDVS (Waunakee, Westport, Dane, Town of Dane, Vienna and Springfield)Commission approved a stone monument project for the EMS property telling the history andhonoring volunteers. Waunakee Area EMS is hoping the community will support the effort.Presentations can be given. For more information, call Vaughn Frye at 849-7399. Waunakee Neighborhood Connection is excited to welcome Stacey Dudley to their team asthe new client and volunteer services manager! Stacey has been working in the field of socialwork for 18 years. She considers the work she has done with babies, first time parents at riskyouth, the intellectually disabled and the elderly populations to be a privilege. She has workedfor nonprofits, worked in health care and is also proud of the two years she served as anAmeriCorps Volunteer. She is excited to work with the Waunakee community, clients,volunteers, the board and staff alike. She is passionate about continuing the mission set forthby the WNC and being a part of extending this further into the community. Welcome toWaunakee Stacey!

The Town of Westport is part of the Madison Area Municipal Stormwater Partnership and aspart of their stormwater permit they are required to undertake information and education. Storm drain murals were part of that education element this year. Check out the poster belowfeaturing Waunakee and Westport drain murals. Have you seen the cool mural near theintersection of Woodland Drive and Mill Road in Westport? Thanks to Jessica and Barry fromthe Town for heading the project for Westport, and Christal Campbell at the County forcoming up with the neat idea!
