How to set up TRACS barcode scanningIf you’ve already got a barcode scanner, you can easily set up your TRACS system to take advantage of all the benefits it has to offer.

1. Go to “Setup and Customize”2. Select “Work Order”3. Choose “Print Options” 4. Check the box next to “Print Work Order # Bar Codes”

TRACS barcode scanning featuresWhen set up, TRACS will add a barcode to your estimates, return orders, job tickets, purchase orders, and invoices. Scan the barcode on the printout, and TRACS will automatically open up that job so you can make changes.

If you have a wireless Bluetooth® scanner, you can use it to easily add or update vehicle information. 1. For existing vehicles, open a blank order and click in the VIN field. To add a new vehicle, click the “New Vehicle” button and click in the VIN field. 2. Take your scanner out to the vehicle and scan the VIN barcode. 3. Return to the shop. When you are in range of the Bluetooth® receiver, push the button on the scanner and the VIN information will be automatically filled into the open order.

4. Decode the VIN if adding a new vehicle.

You can also use your barcode scanner to enter parts or other items into open orders, which we’ll cover in more detail in the next issue of TRACS Power Tips.

Recommended barcode scannersIf you don’t already have a barcode scanner you can purchase one to add to your system. Most barcode scanners will work with your TRACS system, but we recommend the following two models.• Symbol LS2208 wired USB scanner• Symbol LS4278 Bluetooth® cordless scanner
