Exciting times ahead for our organisation with the on-going development and segmentation of our online businesses.

As we wrote in the last issue, there have been some major changes within our organisation with myself moving into a new role as CEO and John McGechie stepping down as General Manager after 35 years at TTL.

During this time of change it became clear that we needed a new business strategy to ensure our company would continue to grow market share, whilst meeting & exceeding our customer needs. We took a step back to reassess our organisations strengths and look at where we can make a difference in our industry across product, distribution, expertise and customer service.

A key component of this new business strategy was to have proven online presences that could independently support both the Trade Tools business and the wider product requirements of our customers and all other NZ consumers. The acquisition of MyTools.co.nz allows us, as a standalone e-commerce platform, to offer an unlimited range and scope of products

EMBRACING ECOMMERCE, SIMON MCLEAY (CEO)to both the consumer and business markets online. This also leads to an enhancement of the TradeTools.co.nz site as a reflection of our specialist business.

My Tools is able to significantly exceed the Trade Tools stocking and offer capabilities– giving us a real edge over our competitors and allowing us to grow our core product capabilities at TTL. As part of this our Sales Team will continue to offer technical expertise in the marketplace.

Our retail presence is still very strong, and focuses around our core products of Cutting tools, Measuring, Coolants, Lubricants and Abrasives, with a narrow but comprehensive range of hand and power tools. This focus enables us to build our reputation as being industry experts and having quality product lines, as we believe our future lies in having a balance of ‘bricks and mortar’ and online channels.

Our online channels now consist of Trade Tools online and My Tools. The latter channel, My Tools is set up using a drop shipping model from multiple supply warehouses. This enables us to offer a range that far exceeds any traditional retailer, provides very

competitive pricing, as well as offering free shipping on all products. Nothing is parallel imported so it can offer speedy delivery and NZ warranty on all products, as well as local customer support. This in itself is innovative within our industry, however our secondary aim is to constantly develop the backend IT systems and processes so that we continue to be leaders in this field and provide a customer service that is second to none.

FACTORS FOR SELECTING THE OPTIMUM CUTTING DISC FOR HIGH-POWERED MACHINES

The maximum efficiency can only be achieved if a cutting disc perfectly matches your machine and application. We have summarised what you should look out for when choosing a product and how cutting discs differ.

Extra-thin cutting discs

Our extra-thin cutting discs bear the product code XT. With a maximum width of disc of only 1.9 mm, they are the ideal tool for processing thin-walled materials as well as solid material. Extra-thin cutting discs cut much easier thanks to the lower friction at the workpiece. This minimises the thermal load and greatly reduces blueing of the workpiece. It’s almost burr-free cut also minimises time- consuming reworking.

Sturdy cutting discs

Cutting discs with a width of disc greater than 1.9 mm are identified by the code FT within the product name. Thanks to their kind of fabric reinforcement and the associated high stability, they are suitable for tough jobs such as the freehand cutting of structural and tool steel. Use our cutting discs with the code ST for stationary cutting.

The right combination of tool and machine

Very efficient discs need strong drive machines to achieve the optimum performance of the cutting disc. Determine the performance of your machine and select a matching cutting disc.

For low-powered machines

Select a softer disc.The softer bond releases new abrasive grit more easily. Soft discs are characterised by a high cutting ability. Weaker machines do not provide enough power for hard discs to release new abrasive grit.

Consequence: The cutting ability deteriorates and the disc becomes blunt.

For high-powered machines

Select a hard disc from the Rhodius quality lines BRAINTOOLS, TOPline or PROline. Very long lifetime and cutting ability on efficient machines.Soft discs on efficient machines lead to a fast disintegration of the bond.

Consequence: The disc’s lifetime is shortened significantly.
