Turkey’s economy grew by 3.0% in the first quarter of 2013 and Turkey became the third fastest growing country in Europe. The latest figures show that Turkey’s economy has been growing for the last 14 quarters (6.5% on average) and it continues to recover.

Turkey’s exports to China increased 47% in January-April period compared to the same period last year. According to the data of Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey exported goods worth $49 billion in the period of January-April.In this period, China was the country Turkey’s exports increased mostly to. China was followed by Libya with 40%. The exports to Libya were worth $986 million in this year compared to the first four months of last year which had been $704 million.

Morrocan Minister of Industry, Trade, & New Technologies Abdelkader Amara said that the win-win concept of Turkey’s foreign investments in Morrocco was very important for their economic development. During the Turkey-Morocco Business Forum in Rabat, Amara said that he discussed bilateral economic topics with Turkish Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan and added, “l am glad to hear from Caglayan that in the upcoming years economic balances between two nations wil be in order.” 200 Turkish businesspeople participated in the forum attended by 800.

Calendar adjusted industrial production increased by 3.4% compared with the same month last year. In the sub sectors of the industry (based on 2010=100), mining and quarrying increased by 3.1%, manufacturing increased by

3.6% and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply index increased by 2.3% in April 2013, compared with the same month last year.

Uludag Automotive Industry exporters Union (OIB) President Orhan Sabuncu said Turkey’s automotive exports grew 12 percent in two successive months for April and May. Export of cars increased 12 percent and reached $1.8 billion, Sabuncu said, reminding the overall automotive exports increased 8.6 percent to reach $12.7 billion since the beginning of the year.

One of the most promising subsectors of the Turkish machinery industry in exports is construction and mining machinery. Turkish construction and mining machinery producers compete with world-wide well-known producers in domestic as well as foreign markets. Total exports of the sector reached US $1,5 billion in 2011 with an increase of 41% compared to the previous year. Main exports products are; machinery spare parts, machinery for sorting, screening, separating, washing, crushing, grinding, mixing or kneading earth, stone, ores or other mineral substances, lifting, handling, loading and unloading machinery, special purpose motor vehicles for persons and goods, self propelled bulldozers, graders and excavators, moving, grading, scraping and boring machinery for earth, stone and mineral

elements, derricks and cranes. Turkish-made construction and mining machinery were exported to over 150 countries in the world in 2011. Major export markets were Germany, Romania, Iraq, England and Iran.

As a part of its energy diversifying efforts Turkey adds coal production to its investment incentive scheme. The latest revision in the incentive system covers the production of coals with high caloric value in addition to the already present low caloric coal types. “Investors now have the option to invest in high-calorie coal production in addition to low-calorie coal sources while taking full advantage of Turkey’s extensive investment incentive system.”, Turkey’s Minister of Economy, Zafer Caglayan, said about the revision, published in the country’s Official Gazette.
