Jimmy was born and bred in Sutherland and after 40 years galavanting about the world in numerous acting roles and performances he has come home to roost in Golspie.
Jimmy has had a long and varied career in film, Television and on the stage. He is a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Renaissance Theatre Company. He has appeared in many of the Kenneth Brannagh films and most recently has been a performance consultant on the 2017 film Murder on the Orient Express.
Jimmy has performed in over 40 productions with Sir Kenneth Branagh Shakespeare plays. His numerous film performances, include Local Hero; Henry V; Much Ado About
Nothing; Frankenstein; Strictly Sinatra; Ladies in Lavender; The Raven and Cinderella. His TV roles include the character Detective Inspector Doug Kersey in the British television series Wycliffe; Victor Brown in Eastenders; Touch of Frost; Casualty; Inspector Lynley Mysteries and New Tricks to name but a few.
In 2010,Jimmy was nominated for the award of Best Male Performance for his role in a play adaption of the Testament of Cresseid by the Critics Award for Theatre in Scotland.
Since returning to live in Golspie Jimmy has directed the Eden Court new play, 'Neverland' which toured The Highlands and he is currently in post-production of 'Geoff', a 20 minute film shot entirely in Sutherland.
The main focus of his attention when not working in film or tv is on the Silver Rock Foundation - a charity established by Jimmy for youngsters in the Golspie area. The SRF tries to encourage young people to attain their full potential or unlock hidden talents, through the arts. Projects are varied, from 'SANDY OF THE SHORE' a week which saw the installation of two pieces of art in local stone in Golspie, by 15 local youngsters and the sculptor Duncan Elliot, to 'SOUNDWAVES', a week's music and art workshop for 30 youngsters, 20 of whom were deaf, culminating in an emotional performance in Golspie.
Jimmy is very much looking forward to meeting everyone at the Invercharron Games.
Please remember to sign our visitor’s book in the

PRESIDENT’S WELCOME
Once again, welcome to Invercharron Games, the last Traditional Highland
Games of the season. This Highland Games has been organised by our Games
committee made up entirely of volunteers and I thank them for all of their
fantastic work and efforts during the year. There is also a need for new
members to come and join the committee or to offer regular help so together
we can take the Games forward for future years and anyone interested in
knowing more should speak to one of the committee members.
The Invercharron Games began in 1888 and were revived in 1981 and have
been running annually since, with 1 exception. The Invercharron Games’
opening ceremony, includes the performance of the ‘Beating of the Targe’. The
origin of the Targe has been lost in the mists of time, but history records it
being used in Greek battles. Scottish history relates it being used at the Battle
of Bannockburn in 1314 by Robert the Bruce and his clansmen and it was also
used at the Battle of Culloden in 1745. The warrior Targe had a boss to which
was attached a metal spike of about 6 to 8 inches long making it a formidable
weapon in hand-to-hand combat. Many clans have their own design on their
Targe, which was originally beaten to call the clansmen to discussions on how
to benefit the lives of each member, as well as a call to arms to safeguard the
land, its people and all of the clansmen’s belongings. The Invercharron Targe is
made from wood, covered in deerskin and was studded in 1981 by one of the
committee members. The sword used in our ceremony was presented by a
past president, Ian Brinklow.
We are delighted to welcome Mr James Yuill, Actor and Director this year as
Chieftain. Well known and respected in his field Jimmy has now completed his
consultancy with the filming of the new film Murder on the Orient Express and
we are delighted he has been able to join us.
Our athletes look forward to these Games in a relaxed and informal
environment, although the competition is extremely keen and well contested.
This is the second year of the newly formed Highland League competition for
Heavy Sports with Invercharron hosting the finals. We look forward to
welcoming many heavy athletes and witnessing highly expert and entertaining
competition. Good luck to all.
Invercharron this year will again host the Scottish championships of the 110
stone Tug O War. The competition will be fiercely fought and we look forward
to welcoming all of the teams participating. Good luck again to all.
16
Last year we welcomed visitors from over 24 countries including Taiwan,
Australia; USA; Canada; Finland; Austria; Switzerland; Slovenia; Denmark;
France; Germany; Lithuania; Netherlands; Alaska; Norway; Spain; Japan; China
and many more. This year we look forward to once again welcoming many
more local, national and international visitors and hope that you all have a fun
filled, action-packed day with many wonderful memories.
If you wish to participate in any of the sporting events or the novelty events
please contact the Secretary’s tent for information.
Please also visit our team in the Secretary’s tent to sign our Visitors Book.
The Committee would like to thank all of our many local and national sponsors,
without whose regular support the Games would not be possible. Our thanks
go to the Big Lottery Awards for All for supporting us with new equipment and
car park matting and to the SSE Community At Heart and Community Payback
teams for helping with the setting and erection of the games field. Thanks too
go to Pete Campbell for allowing us to rent the games field. The committee
would also like to thank our judges, officials and the many volunteers who
support the Games and, of course, the Tain Pipe Band, and our many fabulous
athletes, pipers and dancers, all of whom make the Games as successful as they
are.
We hope you all have a great day and enjoy the wide range of sports, athletic
performances, displays of strength and the amazing piping and dancing you will
be treated to. The annual Children’s Art competition entries are displayed in
the Catering Tent and presentation of prizes will take place at 2pm. Please also
take time to visit and enjoy the many trade stands and other attractions on
offer, not forgetting the catering and drinks facilities spread across the field.
Build some wonderful memories of your time at the games.
A hundred thousand welcomes Ceud Mile Failté

TAIN PIPE BANDTAIN PIPE BANDTAIN PIPE BANDTAIN PIPE BAND
This year, we welcome once again the
Tain Pipe Band to the Games and thank
them for coming to entertain us at these
Invercharron Games.
Tain Pipe Band are an integral part of the
Games opening ceremony and on-going
entertainment throughout the
afternoon. For many years pre-war (1920’s-30’s) the band was known as the Boy
Scouts Pipe Band, but in the 1930s became the Tain Burgh Pipe Band. The Band
went into abeyance in 1939 for the duration of the war and was resurrected in
1946 by old members and newcomers. In 1950 the British Legion took over the
band to be called the Tain BL Pipe Band. Donald Ross was Pipe Major and led an
18-20 strong band. P.M. Willie Morrison later took over as Pipe Major. The band
went defunct in 1956 and uniforms were badly stored. In 1995 a number of
individual pipers and drummers playing as a group at various local venues, set up a
committee and formed The Royal Burgh of Tain Pipe Band. Raising funds proved
hard until uniforms and drums were provided by Mohammed Al Fayed (Harrods) in
1996. The object of the band is to promote an interest in Pipe Band Music in the
area, to entertain people and visitors, and especially, to encourage the younger
generation to build up an interest in music and their heritage.

MAGICIAN MR CLIVEMAGICIAN MR CLIVEMAGICIAN MR CLIVEMAGICIAN MR CLIVE
Magician Mr Clive has been involved with magic
since childhood and performing professionally for
over a decade. Uncovering his family history has
led to a connection with the carney sideshows of
the early 20th century, which may account for his
fascination with the art of magic and creating
mystery.
Mr Clive recalls, “This may be true, in part, but also
offers an explanation for my aversion to pitching
tents and barbeque food.”
So, following in the footsteps of his ancestor The
Amazing Valentina, the Siberian Sword Swallower.
Valentina came to an unfortunate end when, during a multiple blade effect, it was
pointed out that she was neither Siberian or a trained sword swallower.
Mr Clive is in demand for entertainment for families, children, celebrations and
dinners and is delighted to be bringing his magic to the Invercharron Games today.
