ÂTRANSCRIPT
o Printmaking is the process of making artworks byprinting, normally on paper
o Printmaking normally covers only the process of creatingprints with an element of originality, rather than just beinga photographic reproduction of a painting.
o Except in the case of monotyping, the process is capableof producing multiples of the same piece, which is calleda 'print'.
o Each piece produced is not a copy but considered 'anoriginal' since it is not a reproduction of another work ofart and is technically (more correctly) known as an'impression'.
o Relief printing:where the ink goes on the original surface of the matrix.Relief techniques include: woodcut or woodblock as theAsian forms are usually known, wood engraving, linocutand metalcut;
o Intaglio:where the ink goes beneath the original surface of thematrix. Intaglio techniques include: engraving, etching,mezzotint, aquatint, chine-collé and drypoint;
o Planographic:where the matrix retains its entire surface, but someparts are treated to make the image. Planographictechniques include: lithography, monotyping, and digitaltechniques.
o Stencil:including: screen-printing and pochoir

StencilIs a template used to draw or paint identical letters,numbers, symbols, shapes, or patterns every time it isused. Stencil technique in visual art is also referred to aspochoir. Stencils are formed by removing sections fromtemplate material in the form of text or an image. Thiscreates what is essentially a physical negative.
