TRADITIONS IN SLOVAKIA
Christmas
We go to the church, decorate homes and we buy presents for the family and friends. We usually eat cabbage soup, a carp with potato salat, waffles, honey, garlic and an apple. After dinner the family talk, sing, eat cakes and unwrap presents.
Easter
People decorate homes with everything reminding spring. On Easter Monday boys whip and souse girls. Then girls give them painted eggs, chocolate or money.
Bass burial
The Slovak Christians start 40-day lent. They stop all balls and they „bury“ a bass instrument.
Harvest-home
It is a ceremony for the completion of the harvest. Then there is a banquet with music and dancing. People make merry with family and friends.
Vintage festival
It's in the late of September. When the grape vintage is finished we have a vintage festival. In our country we have many roundabouts, refreshment stands and many people are in the town.
