Good morning Sheelagh,

I have received the following email from Councillor Saito with respect to issues outside and inside the Kiss and Ride area of St. Richards school. Although the school board is responsible for the kiss and ride area, the resident also referred to safety issues outside the school area.

Kindly review the information for consideration of a site inspection in this area

Good morning Angie,

Councillor Saito is referring the issue of the "kiss and ride" (see information below) to Traffic Safety Council for their review.

Originally, this matter was sent to Peel Regional Police and Traffic Staff. We have received notification that it is not under Traffic jurisdiction. We await an update from Police with respect to the enforcement of the all way stop.

Please advise what and if any further information is required.

Thank you kindly, Helena Francisco, ext. 5900 Acting Administrative Assistant

"This e-mail may not be forwarded to anyone for any reason without express written permission of the author."

I have experienced several close calls with my kids as we use the crosswalk at the intersection of Joliette Crescent and Copenhagan Road.

The latest incident occurring today as we crossed the street to St. Richards. The car slowed but never came to a full stop, then raced off and we were barely hall way across the street.

On other occasions, we have crossed the entrance of the kiss and drive Janeway and drivers have failed to wait for us to complete the crossing. Furthermore, these drivers often enter the Janeway from our behind us. I know that several parents have expressed their concern to the school, but I am not sure if they have contacted your office. I would like to suggest that the police monitor the intersection, over the next several months, to help encourage drivers to be more careful.

Hi Dave,

As per our conversation today we are requesting that a traffic volume study be completed on the streets

by the City of Mississauga surrounding Oscar Peterson. We continue to have a large number of safety concerns related to traffic flow and unsafe use of the city streets/traffic signs.

Hi Dave,

Thank you for forwarding the Oscar Peterson Parent Council Kiss and Ride Proposal.

Peter and I have had an opportunity to review it. However, since Traffic Safety Council has not conducted an on-site safety review, the normal process for proposals of this type that are requesting changes to on street operations would be to direct the proposal to the City's Operations staff for review and comment.

I would be happy to forward the proposal to Operations if you would like us to go that route. We would not officially comment on the on school property Kiss and Ride items since that is the Board's area of responsibility and expertise.

Thank you. I look forward to hearing from you as to how you would like us to proceed.

Hi Sheelagh,

Can you advise ifTSC does site visits in relation to traffic issues caused by private schools?? We have a resident who has expressed concerns over several years about the parents dropping off I picking up students from Rotherglen. They don't use the kiss and ride, they park in the "no stopping area" on Gaslamp etc. We've had parking control out many times over the years but they can't be there 24/7.

Please advise if this is something that TSC would look at?

Good M_orning Angie,

We've had phone calls and correspondence from an area resident requesting a pedestrian signal at the intersection of Fengate Drive and Meadowvale Boulevard. He advises that it is unsafe for children who wish to cross this intersection to get to Sainte-Famille Secondary School located across the street and also difficult for cars to make a left out of Fengate Drive onto Meadowvale Bouelvard. Traffic Operations staff did a warrant study for traffic signals and it does not meet the warrants. We advised the resident of the warrant study results and he asked why the intersection at Tottington Drive and Meadowvale Boulevard qualified I received one. Upon looking into the matter I discovered the Feb. 24'h, 2010 TSC report recommending the installation due to safety issues.

If you could kindly schedule a site inspection by TSC for a pedestrian signal light at Fengate Drive at Meadowvale Boulevard it would be greatly appreciated.

If you have any questions, please let me know.
