From: Janet Majchrowicz On Behalf Of Nando Iannicca Sent: 2016/05/26 10:50 AM To: Angie Melo; [email protected] Subject: Unsafe Stop/Driving at Pailsey Blvd & Crystalburn Ave. (Ref: L. Almeida)

Good afternoon,

A resident has brought to our attention a long time concern she has been attempting to deal with in her neighbourhood. The intersection she is concerned with is Paisley Blvd Wand Crystalburn Ave., directly in front of Mary Fix Catholic School. She claims the residents in that neighbourhood are extremely concerned with the lack of acknowledgement of the stop sign. She says people speed through Paisley and are not cautious at that stop when children are crossing to school.

She asks the Traffic and Safety Committee to do a site visit and look into this matter through a crossing guard or any safety feature that can be put in place. She also asks for street enforcement by Peel Police to monitor the area because of the safety concern. She has put in a dangerous driving log and claims nothing has helped her concern get resolved.

Could you kindly have staff look into the matter and let our office know of an update at your earliest opportunity.

Thank you very much, Janet Majchrowicz Administrative Assistant (Acting) To Councillor Nando lannicca

April28th,2016 Mayor Bonnie Crombie City of Mississauga- Office of the City Clerk C/O Angie Melo Committee Coordinator - Traffic Safety Council .

2015-2016 SCHOOL SAFETY PA TROLLER PROGRAM

The Canadian Automobile Association (C.A.A) first developed the School Safety Patrol Program in 1929. This program was designed to educate young people about the dangers of traffic and how they could take charge and protect themselves and others from injury and/or possible death to and from school. Partnering with more than 55 Ontario Police Services, the program is delivered to approximately 25,000 students annually.

Peel Regional Police have been involved with The School Safety Patrol Program for over 19 years. We instruct approximately 1800 children every September at the Peel Children's Safety Village on how to be Bus Patrollers. The students chosen for this program display exceptional leadership skills, are dependable and have the confidence to do the job asked of them. These children volllnteer their time not for money or status; they do it because they believe in helping other children

In addition to this program, the C.A.A. has been hosting a very important camp for Safety Patrollers across Ontario. Camp Samac is held every year at the Boy Scout camp in Oshawa. This year, camp runs from Tuesday July 19th, 2016 to Friday July 22°d, 2016. Approximately 30 Police Officers from across Ontario attend and are in charge of the campers. During this four day-long camp, nearly 200 Safety Patrollers learn the skills required to save a life including basic first aid training, fire safety, team building, bus patrol training, evacuations and the information required to become a Safety Patrol Captain. A Safety Patrol Captain will be that child who the following school year assists the Safety Patrol Supervisor with general duties.

As a result of your generous donation last year, we were able to send 3 safety patrollers from Mississauga at no expense to those students. It is our goal again, this year to collectively send a maximum of 25 students from the Region of Peel. The cost for each patroller is $196.90; this includes all scheduled events, all meals, accommodations and all transportation. We also provide each camper with at-shirt and sweatshirt that displays our patroller logo.

Page 35: Traffic Safety Council - Mississauga · Traffic Safety Council 4/27/2016 CALL TO ORDER 3:35 p.m. Peter Westbrook, Chair, Traffic Safety Council, introduced and welcomed the new Citizen

Below is the costing for this year's camp.

Per Student Total for 3 Students Camp Fee $146.90 $440.70 Transportation NA NA Uniform (T-Shirt, sweatshirt) $50.00 $150.00 Total $196.90 $590.70

It would be greatly appreciated if the City of Mississauga would consider funding these students to attend.

If you would like to support this worthwhile event or have any questions, please feel free to contact Constable Michelle Vivian at (905) 453-2121 ext. 4070.

Yours truly,

Jennifer Evans Chief of Police Peel Regional Police
