What is “training”?
Process of developing knowledge & skills of employees• so become better at their jobs.
Employees need to be flexible and multiskilled Employees should be trained:-
• on joining firm (induction)
• throughout careers (ongoing training)• upgrading skills, multi skilling, retraining
• N.B. Sometimes best way of getting new recruits is to train from within. Depends on situation.

Induction Training
• For new staff soon after they join
• Used to:-• Familiarise worker with the company – layout, rules,
products
• Familiarise worker with their job
• Make employee as efficient as possible
• Encourage new workers to be committed
• Often shown videos / presentations / meet managers and other staff
• Think back to induction at school – good/bad/what would you change?
(Activity – Design induction day for 1st day M&S sales assistant)
