1. Introduction
Selmers Global Services can provide training assistance for the period prior to, during and after the erectioning and commissioning of the plant or equipment. The Selmers Academy program provides additional background and in-depth information of the operation systems of the plant, logistics, maintenance, and so on. This has shown to be very useful to pipe blasting, coating and handling plant crew members, particularly for new employees. They will learn quickly and more easily to understand the machinery and the periphery surrounding it. In turn, this enables them to operate the coating plant to its full capabilities in an efficient manner, which obviously is beneficial for the plant owner.

Why Selmers Training courses?
Our custom-made training programs has shown to be very useful and effective to all crew members in all layers of a pipe blasting, coating and handling orientated organization. Especially our operator training teaches operators how to optimize the blasting and coating process, which will results in a significant improvement of the blasting and coating performance. Besides comprehensive operator training, Selmers Global Services offers more training programs like maintenance, logistic, general or programs on request. For Example: a complete operator team of a pipe blasting, coating and handling plant were trained by one of our experienced trainers. The training has resulted in more educated and dedicated operators, which additionally saved the coating plant over 15% less consumption of epoxy powder.

2. Multi-Layer Pipe Coating Process
In the multi-layer pipe coating process, pipes are blast cleaned and covered with a compound coating of three or more individual layers.
Generally the first layer is a fusion bonded epoxy coating of 100 – 200 microns thickness, which is the actual anti-corrosion layer. On top of the epoxy, an adhesive layer of 250 – 350 microns is applied which is the actual anti-corrosion layer. On top of the epoxy, an adhesive layer of 250 – 350 microns is applied which acts as the bond layer between the epoxy and the top layer(s).
The top layer usually consists of 2 – 4 mm PE or PP and provides mechanical protection for the pipe. In some cases, foamed PP or syntactic PP is added in extra intermediate layer(s) as an insulation coating for heated transport lines.
The two main types of coating application are side extrusion and crosshead extrusion (also known as sleeve extrusion). In side extrusion, pipes rotate while top coating is wrapped around the pipe.
In crosshead extrusion, the pipe does not rotate and coating is ‘pulled’ as a sleeve around the pipe.
