Overview

Members of the dental team are in a position where they may either directly observe the signs of child or adult abuse or neglect, or they may hear something that causes them concern about a child or an adult at risk’s welfare. The General Dental Council (GDC) states that the dental team has an ethical and legal obligation to take appropriate action if concerned about the possible abuse of a child or adult at risk; and also to ensure that children and adults are not at risk from members of staff.

This course will cover the important key standards of child and adult safeguarding focusing on Regulation 13 of the CQC Fundamental Standards. The training will incorporate Levels 1 and 2 (half day) or Level 3 (full day) as identified by the Safeguarding children and young people: roles and competences for health care staff Intercollegiate Document 2014 and the training requirements as detailed in the Care & Support Statutory Guidance issued under the Care Act 2014.

Learning objectives

The morning session covers Level 1-2 and the afternoon covers Level 3. Learning objectives and competencies as detailed in the Intercollegiate Document 2014.

• Be able to accurately document concerns and understand the appropriate referral mechanisms and information sharing

• Be able to assess risk and need and instigate processes for appropriate interventions

• Understand how to fulfil your ‘duty of care’ whilst considering best practice.

A day with Dr Pascal Magne N E W Anterior and posterior bonded restorations Achieve superior, predictable, beautiful results with a biomimetic approach to restorative dentistry

Overview

Through the knowledge of dental morphology, function, biomechanics and adhesive dentistry, anterior bonded restorations have the potential of mimicking the natural dentition. Additive techniques are paramount to the diagnostic, preparation and designing of beautiful, functional and minimally-invasive restorations.

The symbiotic relation of enamel, dentin and the dentinoenamel complex can be approached by the synergistic use of direct composite resins, novel semi-indirect CAD/CAM polymers and indirect ceramic materials and the careful choice and application of proven dental adhesives. Chairside CAD/CAM systems have opened new restorative approaches, including the use of high performance biomaterials manufactured under controlled and standardized industrial conditions.

Learning objectives

• Understand a new biomimetic approach to restorative dentistry

• Explore the use of "tooth-like" restorative materials, such as composite resins and porcelain

• Consider the use of a hard tissue bond, such as enamel and dentin bonding

• Discuss direct, semi-direct and indirect techniques in composite and ceramics, including CAD/CAM.

A day with Dr Trevor Burke N E W Dental materials Options for bonding, composites and all ceramics crowns and bridges – what works where

Overview

This event will explore the options for the restoration of teeth with an emphasis on the most minimally invasive way of achieving this; bonding and composite. There will be an in-depth look at the current status of dentine bonding agents and the many advances in the recent past, alongside methods of avoiding the stress that can result in post-operative sensitivity following composite placement.

Materials for the restoration of anterior teeth will be discussed, especially those used for the repair of the worn dentition. The day explores the optimum methods for restoration of the “humble” class V restoration, highlighting the management of sclerotic, shiny dentine surfaces.

Contemporary materials for crowns and bridges and the results of a practice-based clinical evaluation of Zirconia bridges will be presented, along with thoughts on how to avoid the problems of “chipping” and the current status of other ceramic materials.
