Description

INTRODUCTION:Housing is the most important infrastructure without which survival of

the humanity would be miserable. In India, the population has been growing with a

remarkable percentage growth in urban population. It is very difficult to find vacant lands tofulfill the unlimited demand of houses, particularly in urban areas. Vertical expansion seems

to be a prospective solution to solve this problem. The public and private sector are playing

very important role in providing housing by way of constructing tall buildings, i.e high rise

buildings to provide a large floor area in a relatively small land area to maximize the

optimum utilization of lands in urban centers. Hence it is evident that the human aspiration

to build increasingly tall structures are inherent from the ancient times baring examples of

pyramids of giza, EgyptMayan temples of Mexico, Qutub Minar of India. The lateral

stability of the structure is most important in addition to the strength, serviceability, human

comfort, ductility in design requirements duly integrating architecture with structural design

as a complex one. It is essential for everyone involved in construction industry to understand

the sequence and programme of planning, construction and issues involved in maintaining

the structures to fullfill the designed life of structure.
