Objectives

After this lesson the trainee will be able to:

- Explain the science objective of the Microbe-I experiment.

- List onboard outcomes from performing Microbe-I experiment.

- List two sampling methods of Microbe-I experiment.

- Explain what crew has to do to Microbial Detection Sheet after sampling to prevent bio contamination.

- Explain what crew has to do with BZK Wipe after Microbial Detection Sheet sampling to prevent bio contamination.

- Explain what crew must NOT contaminate throughout sampling.

- Identify the area on Microbial Detection Sheet Yeast and Mold where crew must NOT touch.

- Identify the area on Blue/White Wipes where crew must NOT touch.

- Perform Microbe-I operations according to ODFs without instructor’s assistance.

Key Points during Microbe-I Operations

Category Equipment Key Points

Crew Safety

Bio Contamination due to leakage of Microbial Detection Sheet culture media

Microbial Detection Sheet

- After Microbial Detection Sheet is used, cover film must be applied.

- Microbial Detection Sheet must be contained in Ziplock bag.

(2-level containment: cover film and ziplock bag)

BZK Wipes - Use BZK Wipe to clean residual Microbial Detection Sheet culture media.

- Discard BZK Wipe into two Ziplock bags. (2-level containment)

Time Critical Operation N/A N/A

Dos and Don’ts Gloves - Do NOT contaminate gloves by bare skin or mucosa membrane throughout sampling.

Microbial Detection Sheet

- Do NOT touch non-woven fabric or inner side of cover film where non-woven fabric will contact to prevent contamination.

Blue/White Wipe

- Do NOT touch Blue/White Wipe except cap to prevent contamination.

Difficulty in Ops N/A N/A

Possible Mis-Ops N/A N/ACAUTION: Crew safety may be changed in future.

(Final Payload Safety Review Panel has not been held yet.)
