We’ve spent the last 25 years working with people with autism to improve their quality of life. As an organisation we have not only trained our own staff, many parents, but also a range of external organisations including the police, probation services, teachers, healthcare professionals and businesses. We have also developed a comprehensive training programme to be used across local authorities. Our training can be the first step towards ensuring the best support and understanding for individuals with autism.

Our approach to training is interactive using a variety of tools and techniques, games and discussions to ensure that all learning styles are catered for.

Our trainers are part of a major UK autism charity with a strong emphasis on practical service delivery. We operate six residential homes and a range of other activities including support into employment.

We are experts in managing challenging behaviour, individual communication systems and meeting sensory needs. The people we support show reduced anxiety and are able to take greater control over their own lives.

Our staff train health professionals in dealing with autism. We also have close links with clinicians, academics, speech and language therapists and specialists in psychology and psychiatry.

Where possible, we involve people with autism in the delivery of our training. Listening to someone with autism talk about their experiences can be a revelation to their audience and make autism become “real” to them.

The Autism Act 2009 and Statutory GuidanceTraining in autism is now more relevant than ever with the Autism Act 2009 and subsequent Statutory Guidance stating that all Local Authorities and NHS should:

• Provide Autism Awareness training for ALL staff. This includes all frontline staff that may come into contact with individuals with autism. We have previously provided training for practice managers, pharmacists, administrators and receptionists. • Provide specialist autism training for key personnel such as frontline staff working in

statutory services, any staff involved with the assessment of individuals with autism and GPs.

To ensure your organisation complies with the latest guidance for best practice, book one of our Autism Awareness courses; a more specialist workshop such as our two hour GP course or book an individual onto our programme of seminars. Practical Autism Awareness TrainingOur Autism Awareness training has been specially adapted to the new requirements under the Autism Act and Statutory Guidance. It is a sharply-focused seminar full of practical tips. This training programme is a cost-effective introduction to autism and full training materials are provided.

Our training will help you and your staff:

• Recognise that someone has autism, understand what autism means and how it is diagnosed • Recognise how people with autism view the world and process information • Understand how to minimise the anxiety of a person with autism • Learn practical, specific strategies to use in dealing with someone with autism, at work

or elsewhere
