time were baffled as they seE.rched in vain for some kind of a strange

bacterium, vi....""11s, or toxin that su:pi:osedly lurked in the dark holes of

ships. And yet, for hundreds of years the cure was already known and

written in the record.

In the winter of 1535~ vhen the French explorer Jacque Cartier

found his ships frozen in the ice off ot the st. La'Wl'ence scurvy began to

take its deadly- toll. Out of a crew of one hundred and ten, twenty-five

already had died and most of the others vere so 111 they veren't expected

to 1"1'!cover.

Am then, a !'riendly Indian showed tpem the simple remedy. Tree

bark and need1es from the vbite :pi:ae, both rich in ascorbic acid or

vitamin c, were stirred into a drink which :produced immediate improvement

and srlf't recover:,.

Ui)On returning to Europe, Cartier rei:x,rted this incident to the

medical authorities. Btrt they were amused by such witch doctors cures

of ig?lOra!It savages and they did nothing ·to. follov it up. Yes the cure

for scurvy vas know. But because of scientific arrogance it took over

two hundred years and cost hund..~ds of thousands of lives before the

medical. e.:c:perls began to acce:pt and apply th_is knowledge.

Fimily' in 1747, John Linde, a young surgeons mate in the British

Navy discovered that oranges and lemns produced :relief' from scurvy.

And reco!Il!l:ended tbat the Royal ~vy include citrus fruits in the stores

his recor=::~r.dation ve~ put ir.to effect.

be prevented simply by eating liver or yeast. But it ~-asn't untiJ. .the

1911-0' s aln:ost thirty years later that the medical vorld fully accepted

pellagra as a vitamin B deficiency.

13,y 1952, Doctor Ernst T. Krebs, Jr., a biochemist in San Francisco,

bad advanced the theory that cancer, like scurvy or pellagra, 1s not

caused by some kind of mysterious bacterium or virtts or toxin, but is

merely a deficiency disease aggravated by the lack of an essential food

compound in modern man's diet.

Re identified this compound as part of the nitriloside family

irhich occurs abundantly in nature in over 1200 edible plants and foun<!

virtually in every i:ert ot the vorld. It's pirticulo.r~ present in the

seeds of fruits, but also is contained in grasses, maize, sorgum, millet,

cas, iba, linseed, bitter almonds, and mny other foods that geI1erally

have been deleted from the menus of rrodern.civilization.

A chronic disease is one -...bich usually doesn't pass away of its

ow accord. A metabolic disease is one vhich arises within the body and

isn't transmittable to another :person. Cancer, therefore, is defined

as a chronic metabolic disease. teeter Krebs }',..as J;Ointed out that ::tn

clue as to vhere to concentrate our scientific curiousity in the search ..

t,;,r a better u:cderstanding o:f' cancer.:

But there are other clues as well. Before looking at the more

technical: aspects of Doctor Krebs' theory, it's veil that we examne

some of them.

For e~le, domesticated :pets o:f'ten seek out certain grasses to

eat, even though they are adequately :filled by other foods. This is

particularly likely to happen i:f' the animals are not well. It's interesting

to DOte that the grasses selected by instinct are Johnson grass ( sp),

Tunis grass, Sudan grass, and others that are e~cia~ rich in nitrilo-

sides or vitamin B-17.

Monkeys and other primates at the zoo vhen given a fresh peach

or apricot 'Will carefully puJ.l avay the sw~t fleshy :part, crack open

the hard pit and devou::- the small seed thnt remains. Instinct compels

them to do this even though they 1ve never seen that kind o:f' fruit before.

These seeds are one o:f' the most concentrated sources of nitrilosides to

be f'ouncl anywhere in nature.

Wild bears are great consumers of nitrilosides in their natural

diet. Not only do they seek out berries that are rich in this substance,

/

20 but vhen they kill small grazing anin:als for their 01m food, instinctively

21 they pass over the muscle p,rtions and consume :f'irst the viscera end

221 rumen (sp) which are filled vith nitriloside grasses.

generally Sl)eCulated b1 the experts that a virus tad been the cause.

Ho~ it's higticy- significant that one never finds cancer in the

carcasses of wild animals killed in the hunt. 1.rhese creatures contract

the disease on~ vhen they are domesticated by man and forced to eat the

foods that he :provides and the scra-ps from his table.

,.

Doctor George M. Briggs, professor of nutrition at the University

of Calif'ornia, has said, the typical American diet is a national disaster.

If I :f'e~d it to pigs or covs without adding vitamins alld other supplements

I could vi:pe out the livestock ind.1.tstl"Y'.

A briet' look at the .A?!ierican diet tells the stol7. Gl"Qce:cy

shelves nov are lined 'With high carbohydrat~ foods that have ~en processed,

-refined, synthesized, artificially flavored and loaded nth.chemical

preservatives. Some manufacturers even boast o:f' bov little real food

there is in their :product.

Millet ws once the Nations staple grain. It is high 1n·nitril.'.)

side content. But nov it's been replaced by ~heat vhich has practically

none at all. Sorgum cane has been replaceq. by sugar cane with the same

result. Even our cattle are fed increasingly on quick growing, low

nitriloside grasses. So there's less vitamin :S-17 residue in the meat

ve eat. In some places livestock now are being fed a diet containing

fifteen percent pt~r to fatten them quicker for market.

And._&'.) ve see, that in the ~st fifty years the foods that once -.;:,;

The ultlJ'Il!lte scientific test ot the vitamin theory of cancer

wuld be to take a large numbe1· .of people, numbering in the thousands,

and over a :period of many-years expose them to a consistent diet of

rich nitriloside t'oods and then check the results. Fortuna~l.y this already

has been done.

In the remote recesses of the Himalaya M:>untains bet·.reen West

Pakistan, India, and China there is a tiey kingdom called Hunza.

These people are lalown t.-"Orld over for their amazing longevity and

good health. It's not tmcomn::on for Hunzacuts to live beyond a hlllld:-ed

years; and some even to a hundred and twenty or more. Visiting medical

teams :f"rom the outside vorld rep::>rt that there never has been a case

of cancer in Hunza.

Although :present~ acce:pted science is unable to explain vhy

these people should be free of cancer, it's interesting to :cote the

average Ruma diet contains over tw hundred times more nitril.oside

than the average American diet.

In fact, in that land vhere there is no such thing as mriey, a

man's -wealth is measured by the number o:f' Apricot trees he ovns. And

the most -prized of all foods is considered to be the Apricot seed.

It's also interesting to learn that vhen the Hunzacuts leave

their secluded land and adopt the menus of other countries, they soon It,~

succumb to the same diseases and infi.nd.ties, included cancer, as the

rest of !a3.nkind.

The Esk:tlros are eno-ther i;-eople tr.at have been obeerved by n:e:d.:.;.ccl

also from the Samon ( sp) berr,r which grovs e bund.ant~ in the Arctic

areas. When the Eskilro abandons his traditional wy of li1"e ar.d begins

to rely on Westernized foods he becomes even more cancer prone than the

average American.

There are maey other peoples in the wr ld that could be sited

'With the sa~ characteristics: The Abkhasians near the Black Sea; the

Hopi snd Navaho Indians of 1-torth America;_ certain native populations in

South America and South Af'rica. From all races and all regions of the

world the one thing they have in conmx>n is that the degree to vbich these

people are free from cancer is in direct prop:,rtion to the amount of

nitrilosides or vitamin B-17 found in their native diet.

In answer to this, the sceptic may argue that these :primitive

groups ain't exi, osed to the same cancer :producing elements that nx,dern

man is. And perhaps th:at' s vhy they are immune. Let them breathe the

same smg filled air; ·smoke the same cigarettes; swallov the same

chemicals added to their food or drinking wter; u.se· the sair.e soaps or

deodorants and then see how they fair. This of ccu:rse is a valid p::,int.

But fortur.ately, eyen that question nov has been resolved by experience.

For ove·r tw decades there has been a steadily growing group

of people vho have accepted the vitamin theory of cancer end ,rho have

altered their diets accordingly. They reJ?resent all w-alks of life,

all ages, both sexes, and reside in aL,nst every advanced nation in the

vorld. It's esti.zated thot there are many thousands in the United Staten

a diet rich in vitamin B--17, none of these people has ever been YiJlown

to contract cancer. Now let' s repeat that statement. While their

fellow ci tiz.ens are sut.fering from cancer at the rate of one out of every

four, DOt one o.f these thousands h:ls ever been know--n to contract this

dread disease. For macy persons, the logic of all these facts put

+..ogether is so great that it would be easy- to close the case right

here. But in view of the :powerful opposition against this concept,

let's not content out;selves on~ with the logic of the theory. Let's

reinforce our convictions Vi th the science o.f the theory also. That

we may understaDd why it vorks the vay our logic tells us that it must.

In 1902, John Beard a professor of Embryology at the University

of Edinborough in Scotland reported that there were no discernible

ditterences between highly malignant cancer cells and certain pre-

·embryenic cells that vere quite normal in the ear~ stages ot pregnancy.

In technical te1-ms these normal cells are called t:-ophoblasts •.

Extensive research had lei :professor Beard to the conclusion that cancer

and tro:phoblast are in fact one in the same. His theory therefore is

};:Down as the Trophoblastic Thesis of Cancer.

The trophobl!lst in pregnancy indeed does exhibit all the

classical characteristics of cancer. It spreads and multiplies rn:pidly

About So ~rcent of these total 11:f'e cells are located in the

ovaries or testes where they serve.as a genetic reservoir for future

offspring. The r-st of them are distributed elsewhere in the body for

a pur:pose not yet fully understood, but vhich my involve the

regenerative or healing process o-f damaged tissue.

The hormone estrogen is well lOJOW for its ability to ef:f'ect

cbar.iges in living tissue. Although it~ s generally thought of as a

:female hormone 1 t' s :f'ound in both se.xe s and :performs many vital functions.

Wherever the body is damaged either by physical trauma, chemical action,

or illness, estrogen al.rays appears in great quantities, possibly

serr.f..ng as a stimulator or catalyst for body rei:iair.

rt's nov known that the total lif'e cell is triggered into

producing tro:phoblasts when it comes into cont.act With estrogen. When

this happens to those total life cells that have evolved .from the

fertilized egg the result 1s a ~lacenta and umbilical cord, a me~ns of

DOurishi:og the embrJO. M when it occurs non-se::cually as part of the

g~neral healing process, the result is cancer.

· 'When ::ancer begins to for.?1, the body reacts by attempting to

seal it off and surrounding it vith cells t}',..at are similar to those

in the location vhere it occurs. A bump or ll.JlJl!) is the usual result.

Under micl"Oscopic examination most of these tumors are found to resemble

a mixture or hybrid of both tro'Phoblast and surrounding cells. A fact

which has led r.any researchers to the :premature conclusion that ther~

are ~13.DY Qi~fcrent types of cancer.

and the more clearly they begin to take on the classic characteristics

o:r pregnancy tro:phoblast. And the most malig:mnt of all cancers, the

cihorion-epithelialo:ras are almost indistinguishable from trophoblast

cells. For as Doctor Beard :pointed out over seventy years ago, they

. are one and the same •

Let's turn now to the question of defense n:ec~nisms. Before

ve can hope to conquer cancer, :first we must understand how nature

conquers cancer; how nat-ure protects the body and controls the g:-owth

of trophoblast cells.

All animals contain billions of white blood cells. 0:1e of the

functions of these cells is to attack and clestroy anything that is

foreign and harmful to our bodies. For this reason it vould seem

logical. that they would attack c,sncer cells also. Bt:rt since cancer is

trophoblast and since trophoblast is not foreign to the body but is

1n f'act a vital l)art of the life cycle, nature has provided it 'With a

ver., ~~ effective means of avoiding the -white cells.

One of the characteristics of the trophoblast is that it's

sur.rounded by a thin protein coating that ~arries a negative electro

static charge. The i,;hite cells alzo have a negative charge and since

sirn1Jar :polarities repel each other the t:rophoblast is well protected.

Part of the solution to this :problem is found in the :pancreas

which. secretes an enzyme called trypsin.-.;. When this enzyme reaches the

trophoblast in sufficient quantity it dig~sts the protective protein

coat. The car.cer then ic e::q:,osed to the attack o:f' the ·white cells e:n1

it diea.

Applying this to the e::-:.o~-c, -,;e find t.l;at the trorhcblest cellG

suddcm}'ly for no apparent reason they stop growi.i;g and are destroyed.

Recent res~archms provided the explanation. It's in the eighth week

that the baby's pancreas begins to :t"\mction.

Nov it's significant that the 'U'pp!r intestines near the J;X>int

vhere the pincreas empties into it, is the one place in the h11rnan 'body

where cancer is almost never found. We note also that diabetics, those

. who su:f'fer :t"rom a :pancreas malfunction, are three times more like~ to

contract cancer than non-diabetics. These tacts which have puzzled

medical investigators for years at last can .be explained in light of

the tropboblastic thesis ot cancer.

But what happen,;ts it the l)ancreas is week or ~ the rate of

cancer growth is so high that the e~e trypsin can't keep up 'With

itt Then vbatT The answer is that nature has provided a backup

mecba~sm, a second line ot defanse that can do the job even if the

first line shoul.d fail. It involves a unique chemical comp:nmd

that p:>isons the maligriao:t cell while nourishing all the rest. And

tbis is where the vitamin concept of cancer f'i.tlally comes back into the

picture.

The chemical compound in question of course is, vitamin B-17,

-vbich is found in those natural foods containing nitrllosides. It's

known also as amygdalin and as such has been used and studied extensively

for well over one hu:ldred years. '.B'..rt in its concentrated end pUTif'ied

as everyone knows, cyanide can be highly toA"ic and even fatal if taken

in sufficient quantity. However, locked as it is in this natural 5"°"3te,

it's completely inert chemically and has absolutely no effect on livin;

tissue.

The,:e is only one substance that can unlock this mlecule and

release the cyanide. That substance is an enzyme called beta-glucosidase,

vhich we sh.all call the unlocking enzyme. 'When B-17 comes in contact

vith this enzyme not only is the cyanide released, but alo the benzalda

hyde which is highly toxic by itself'. In fact, these t1.-o wrkiDg to

gether are at least one hundred times IIX)re :poisomus than either of

them separately.

The unlocking enzyme is not found to any dangerous degree any

where in the body except at the cancer cell where it always is present

in.great quantity. The result is that vitamin B-17 is unlocked at

the cancer cell. It becomes :poisonous to the cancer cell and only to

the cancer cell.

There is another important enzyme called, rhodenase, vhich we

shall identify as the. protecting enzyme •. Ti.1e reason is that it has the

ability to neutralize cynnide by converting it instantly into by-:products

that actually are beneficio.l and essential for health. This enzyme is

found in greet quantities in eyery part of the body except the cancer

cell which consequently is not protected.

Here then is a biochemical process that destroys cancer cells

There's much speculation today about carcinogens: The things -

that supposedly cause cancer. We.are told thst researchero now have

proven tbat s:noking or excessive e:q:osure to the sun or chemical

additives to our food or even certain viruses, all can cause can~er.

But as ve have seen, the real cause is an enzyme and vitamin deficiency.

These other things are merely the speci£ic triggers that start the

process.

Aeytbing that produces prolonged stress or damage to the body

can trigger off the production of estrogen as a part of the healing.

If' this goes unchecked because the body lacks the necessary chemical

ingredients to fight back, then the result is cancer. Specific

carcinogens, therefore, do DOt cause cancer they merely determine where

it's going to occur.

Of course, nature's defenses against cancer include more than

just the :pancreatic enzymes and vitamin B-17. Research has sbovn

that an important role also may be play.ed by other enzymes, other

vitandns, oxygenation of the blood, pH le-vels, and even body temperature.

Vitamin B-17 seems to be the mst vital and direct acting of all these

factors, but none of them can be igr.ored.

-part of the total ~tural mechanism$.

For they are an interlockin;

Fortunately, it' a not necessar.r for ma.n to understand fully

every theoretical aspect of this mechanism in order to make it work -

for him in ~ra.ctice. All that he realzy .needs to know is the necessity

of eating foods rich in all the Yitenins end nin-~ni ls and of ~ini.r.:iizir_3

Since laetrile was de .. reloped. in 1952, there have been literally

thousands of si:milar case histories reported and documented. And when

all these are viewed as a group they begin to take on the for.ll of

numerical statistics which of course are more meaningt'ttl than individual

cases.

There have been at least henty-six published medical :pai:,ers

written by well known physicians vho have used laetrile experimentally

in the treatment of their O'Wl'l p!tients. And who have concluded that

laetrile is both safe and effective in the treatment of cancer. The

American Cancer Society and other sp:>kes:zen for the medical establishment

imuld have.us believe that only crackpots· bave endorsed this conclusion.

But the doctors who COilducted these experiments and th0se Yho share

their conclusions are not quacks. Here are just a few of the names.

In West ~nraey there is D::>ctor Hans Neiper, Director ot the

Departlnent of Medicine at the Silversee Hos:pital in Haoover. He is a

pioneer :i!l the medical use of cobalt and is credited 'With develo:ping the

anti-cancer drug cyclo:phosl)hamide. Undoubtedly be is one of the worlds

most famous and respected cancer specialists.

In Canada, there is a toctor N. R. Bouzianne, Director of

Research Laboratories at Saint John terk-.;;( sp ) Hospital at Montreal.

He is a member of the Hospital's T°ill?X)r Board and in charge of chemothera'P"f•

Also, he is Dean of the A~erican Association of Bioenalysts.

I!! the P:1ili;:pines, there is a D:,ctor ~fanuel Nav-erro, Professor

of F~::.icine and Surge:-y- at the Unive:?:"sity of Santei 'I'O:r.as (s:p) in i--!:!~ila.

the psychological advantage of visibly 1·e::i:o,--ing the tumor. And from

that p:,int of Yiew it offers the patient -and his family some comfort

and hope. However, the degree to which surgery is useful is the same

degree to which the t'Ul!lOr is not imlignant. The greater the proportion

of cancer cells in that tumor the less likely it is that surgery 'Will

help. And the most highly malignant tUI!X)rs of all, generally are considered:

inopanble.

The statistical rate of long tenn zurvival after surgery is e.t

best only ten or fif'teen parcent. And once. the cancer has metastasized

to a secondary location surgery has almost no survival value ~hatsoever.

The reason, of com:-se, is that like the other therapies approved by

organized medicine, surgery removes only the tumor, it does not remve

the cause.

The rationale behind .x-ray therapy is essentially the same as

Yi.th surgery. The medical objective is.to. remove the tUilX)r, but to do

so by burning it away rather than cutting· it out. Here also it rs

risk o-f leuker.rl.a by e.t least sh.-ty percent. And these. rou:tint? x-rays

are nothing COnl1)Bred to the intense radildion u.sed on cancer :patients.

X-rays induce cancer because of at least two factors: First,

they do physical damage to the body which triggers off the production

of trophoblast cells as parl of the healing process; second, they

veaken or destroy the production of vhi te blood cells, which is v1e have

have seen constitute the immunological defense mechanism - the body's

front line defense against cancer.

As v.1.th all forms of cttrrently popular treatments, once the

cancer Ifs metastasized to a second location there is practically oo

chance that the radiology l)Eltient will live. So, in addition to an

awst zero survival value, radiotherapy has the extra distinction of

also spreading the very cancer it's SUPlX)sed to combat.

The record of so-called anti-cancer drugs is even worse. Most

o-f them cu.."'Tently in use are highly poisooous, not just to cancer, but

to the rest of the body as well. In fact, generally they are n:ore

deadly to healthy tissue than they are to the malignant cell.

Most of these drugs ere described as radio-mimetic, vhich

means that they mimic or :produce the same effects as radiation.

Consequently, they also suppress the immun:,logical defense mechanism,

and thus, help to spread the cancer to other areas. But, whereas x-rays

are usually directed to only one or two locations, these chemicals do

thei.r deadlf ....,ork on ever; cell in the entire body.

tragic results are well depicted in the following statements taken from

just a fev of the oft'ic1al chemotherapy rep:,rts of the Natior.i.al Cancer

Institute.

An ef':rort w-as ma.de to choose patients who were vell enough to

withstand the anticipated toxicity. F.ar~ death of two of the first five

pa~ients treated caused a reduction to eight milligrams :per kilogram per

day. No signii'icant anti-tum:,r benefit of any duration was observed.

In this ,tudy, six of the eight children died. Q. 110 ther:peutic

effect was observeci. Toxic clinical n::anifestations consisted of

vomiting, hypertension, changes in oral mucous membranes, and diarrhea.

Rena1 damage and cerebral edema were observ.ed at p:,st mortem examination

in each of the six patients who died while receiving this drug.

The death of two patients vas unequivocally caused by drug

toxicity. Eight of the fourteen patients who survived their initial

courses of therapy sho~ed r~pid and general deterioration and died

within ten weeks after therapy began.

And so it goes year in and year ·out. Deadly experiments fully

approved by organized medicine. ]:qleriments that can be viewed only

as a form of human vivisection. This then is the comparison bet-.,."'een

vitamin therapy and orthodox treat~ents.

The statistics tr.at follow are taken :from the Natior.al Cancer

of those physicians who have used J.Eetrile in the treatn:ent or their

And of those who presently are healt~· With 110 clinical cancer

cancer as long as they routinely obtain adequate amounts of vitamin

B-17. But thosevho subsist on the tn,ical American diet and rely o~

on the therapies or crganized medicine are doomed to a survival rate of

just eighty-f'our percent. And that figure includes !tll ages. It is

much less for those above thirty. · As mentioned previously, these figures will vary widely depending

on age, sex, cancer location, and degree of malignancy. Also, they are

somewhat arbitrary when it comes to separating early diagnosed cancers

from those that are advanced for often there is a grey area between the

two. Nevertheless, in general, they are accurate as any such tabulation

can be. And they tell an impressive story that cannot be brushed aside.

Considering the lack of results obtained by orthodox medicine, it's

been said that voodoo witchcraft would be just ~s effective, and perhaps

even moreso for at least then the patient would be spared the deadly side

effects of radiacion and chemical poisonin£. Just as we are amused today

at the primitiv~ medical practices of history, future generations surely

will look back at our own era and cringe at tha senseless cuttinB, burnin&,

and poisoning that now passes for meJical science.

No matter how useless or aven harmful current practices may be,

consensus medicine demands that they be used by every physician. Re

gardless of how ma~y patients are lost, the ·doctor's professional

standing is upheld because those who pass judgment through peer review

are using the same treatments and getting the same tragic results. On

the other hand, if the doctor deviates f~om this pattern and dares to

apply nutrition as the basis of his treatment, even if he attains a high

degree of s~ccess, he is condemned as a quack. He may lose his hospital

privileges and even is subject to arrest.

There's no doubt that most of the opposition to vitamin therapy comes

from well intentioned people who simply don't yet have all the facts. But

vested interest also plays an important role. As stated at the beginning

of this presentation,

the science of cancer therapy isn't nearly as complicated as the

politics of cancer therapy. The history of how these vested interests have

succeeded in influencing the medical profession, government agencies, and

public opinion is a fascinating story by itself. But of course, time

doesn't permit it to be told here.

For the full story of both the science and the politics read, World

Without Cancer. This book contains all the information presented in this

film plus a great deal more. It includes extensive extracts from primary

research documents and is amply footnoted. so that the serious studentcan

pursue his own avenues of investigation. r1e recorrnnend that you obtain

several copies of this boo~ for the purpose of lending to your frienJs.

The information contained could well save their lives.

tion to the degree to which it's influenced by poljtics. Therefore, the

Committee believes that the government should get off the back of private

research and out of the field of medical practice.

If you agree with this objective we urge you to support the Committee.

Your contribution will be put to work in the battle for personal freedom.

They'll be used to print and distribute literature, to disseminate copies

of this film, to provide legal defense for doctors who have the courage to

use vitamin therapy, to hold lectures and seminars, to conduct research

programs, and to establish local organizational units in every community

in the United States.

Once vitamin B-17 is as widely understood and available as other

vitamins, cancer then will be rare as is scurvy or pellagra today. When

nitrilosides are used perhaps as a routine seasoning to our food, like

iodized ~able salt, then the battle finally will be won.

This is our goal. And it's an objective that can be reached right

now by anyone who will act upon this knowledge. How long it will take for

the rest of mankind, depends to a large measure on your support of our

legal battles and our educational program.

You and your family now may become secure from cancer. :Sut that's

only because someone else has helped to bring these facts (background

music begins) to your attention. Can you do less for others? Join with

us in this noble task. Together we can create a world without cancer.
