    HISTORY

MAGNETIC FLOW METERThese flow meters debuted in Holland in1952. Magnetic flow meters use wire coils

mounted outside of a pipe. A voltage runsthrough the coils, generating a magneticfield inside the pipe. As the conductiveliquid passes through the pipe, aseparate voltage emanates from thesystem. This voltage relates to the flowrate and is detectable.

    INTRODUCTION

MAGNECTIC FLOW METERThe most common flow meter apart from themechanical flow meters, is the

magnetic flow meter , commonly referred toas a "mag meter" or an "electromag".A magnetic field is applied to themetering tube, which results in a

potential difference proportional to theflow velocity perpendicular to the flux lines.

    GAUGING ROD

Gauge rod is a graduated rod formeasuring the capacity of barrels, casks, etc.Gauging rod known as directmeasurement which is easy, simpleand is used for the purpose of localindication.

    REQUIREMENT

    MAGNETIC FLOW METER

The magnetic flow meter requires aconducting fluid,Example:o water, ando an electrical insulating pipe surface,a

rubber lined non magnetic steel tube.

    PRINCIPLES

MAGNETIC FLOW METERThe physical principle at work is Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction .

    E is prop ortio nal t o V x B xD Where:E = the voltage generated in a conductor

V = the velocity of the conductorB = the magnetic field strengthD = the length of the conductor

GAUGING RODRelative movement between the end anchorand the reference tube is measured witheither a dial depth gauge.Alternatively several rods may beinstalled radially in a single large hole

of each rod within its sleeve.

    TYPES

MAGNETIC FLOW METERWafer-style, where highest accuracy (upto +0.5% of reading) measurements arerequired.Insertion-style, for greater economy andparticularly for larger pipe sizes. AllOMEGA magnetic flow meters employ thestate-of-the-art dc pulsed magnetic field

system. The following discussion detailsthe principle of operation, as well asthe advantages, of dc pulsed typemagnetic flow meter.

    ADVANTAGES

MAGNETIC FLOW METERObstruction less flow and virtually no pressuredrop.insensitivity to viscosity, specific gravity,

temperature and pressure (within certainlimitations).have good accuracy (0.5 to 1%) and no movingparts.can handle slurries and heavy particulates and

also lining protectors available.available in a wide variety of communicationprotocols.

    DISADVANTAGES

MAGNETIC FLOW METERThe fluid needs to be conductive. This technology utilizes magnetic andelectric fields, the pipe must normallybe grounded. It is not recommended to use graphite

gaskets when installing a magnetic flowmeter

    CONCLUSION

Transducer of Magnetic flow metersuse wire coils mounted outside of apipe. A voltage runs through the

coils, generating a magnetic fieldinside the pipe.Transducer of Gauging Rod is the rodthat has been calibrated and it isput into a vessel. It is easy to usefor liquid or solid medium.
