Types of Transfer

1. Production

• Transfers are made when labour requirements in one factory or branch are declining.

• The surplus employees who are efficient or trained might be absorbed in other places to avoid layoff.

• Helps to stabilize employment.

2. Replacement

• In such transfer, a long service employee is transferred to a similar job where he replaces an employee with shorter service.

• These transfers are made when all operations are declining but management wants to retain the long service employee as long as possible.

3. Versatility

Also called as Rotation transfer, this transfer is made to develop all round employees by moving them from one job to another.

• Helps to reduce boredom & monotony.

4. Remedial

• As a followup, the wrongly placed employee is transferred to a more suitable job.

• To rectify mistakes in selection & placement.

Shift

Employees may be shifted from one shift to another for personal reasons.

Penal Transfer

Sometimes transfer is done to punish the employees for indisciplinary action.

Eg. Misbehavior with colleagues, creating negative environment, not following the rules of Management.etc.

Transfer Policy

• A single policy should be formulated to govern all type of employee transfers.

• It will ensure uniformity of treatment and avoid transfers for petty reasons.

• It should clearly specify the types of transfers and the circumstances under which transfers will be made.

• It should prescribe the basis for transfers.

Transfer Policy

• It should indicate the executives responsible for initiating and approving the transfers.

• It should tell whether the transfers can be made only within a department or b/w department.

• It should be put in writing.• It should be communicated and explained

to the employees.

• The transfer should as far as possible be made in consultation with the employees.

• Facilities to be extended to the transferred employee should be prescribed.

• Other facilities to be extended to the transferee like special leave during the period of transfer, special allowance during the time of transfer,packaging luggage, transportation etc.
