The SolutionAccenture and BT jointly offer a ManagedNetwork Service (MNS) solution that can directlyaddress these issues. Our solution is built onbest-in-class network infrastructure andmanagement capabilities and can offer acompelling and highly price-competitive servicethat can improve performance at a lower cost.

The MNS solution is delivered as partof an outsourcing agreement underwhich Accenture and BT takemanagement responsibility for, andpotentially ownership of, yournetwork infrastructure and transformit to an IP based platform.

We then continue to manage theday-to-day operations for theduration of the contract period,allowing you to focus on your corebusiness.

Our solution incorporates newtechnology options such as MultiProtocol Label Switching (MPLS),which delivers the fast switchingcapability of layer 2 technology withthe flexibility and scalabilityadvantages of IP.

We can accommodate the specificneeds of your business and can tailorthe MNS solution to align with yourrequirements, for instance:

� Where full IP-Telephony (IPT) is noteconomically viable we can deliverpragmatic partial Voice over IP(VoIP) solutions that can carryvoice traffic over the WAN bututilise the existing PBX estate.

� Services from other networkproviders can also be accommodated,yet we still provide end-to-endmanagement of the environment.

Using our proven programmemanagement capabilities we canensure the transition to your newinfrastructure is seamless to the dailyoperations of your enterprise.

The result is a converged IP networkthat can be integrated with WirelessLAN (WLAN) and mobile networks todeliver applications and solutionsacross multiple platforms and devices.

IP Xelerant

In order to fully understand how our MNS solution can deliver benefitsto your business we have developed a six-week network diagnostic – IP Xelerant.

The objective of this diagnostic is toidentify the technical, operationaland commercial benefits of aManaged Network Service through adetailed study of the As-Is networkand the business requirements. Inparticular, the diagnostic will provide:

Accenture and BT are currentlyworking together to jointly deliver atransformed Managed NetworkService for Sainsbury’s. As part of abroader IT and network transformationprogramme, Accenture and BTtransformed the existing legacy WANand LAN networks in 2002 to createthe largest MPLS platform in the UK.

This network covers over 700 sites,including 535 stores, 238 petrol fillingstations, 5 regional offices, 2 datacentres and 50 depots.

Accenture and BT continue tomanage the day-to-day operations ofthe data platform, including networkmonitoring, management andmaintenance.

The provision of data services isabsolutely critical to the dailyoperations of the Sainsbury’s businessand supports a real-time supply chainmanagement system, a credit cardauthorisation system, and on-siteATMs. Accenture and BT workedtogether to deliver the refreshed

WAN in only three months, whilstensuring that the programme wasseamless to the daily operations ofthe business.

We are currently in the design phaseof a WLAN (Wireless LAN) solution forstores that will be used to supportreal-time updates to the supply chainmanagement system via mobilebarcode scanners and printers. Thiswill create a fully converged mobileand fixed IP platform capable ofsupporting IP applications across thebusiness.
