The Future Teacher Club (FTC) at LSC-Tomball was the runner up for the 2010-11 Local Unit of the Year award by the Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE). Nominees for this award are evaluated in five areas: local unit management, membership growth, member services, services to the school and community, and political involvement. FTC President Erin Snyder of Magnolia (pictured, right) and Vice President Kyann Cambron of Houston (pictured) both represented their chapter in interviews held earlier in the spring. The winner of the Local Unit of the Year award was announced on July 21 in Austin. LSC-Tomball finished ahead of Texas Woman’s University in Denton but behind East Texas Baptist University in Marshall.

The butterfly garden was established years ago by biology professors Kathy Switzer and Alanna Tynes. Many of the new flowering plants will go dormant in the winter and come back in the spring.

Jay finished in the top 10 in the singles competition and fifth in the doubles competition. Though he only lost one match, the round in which he lost kept him from advancing.
