TRANSFORMERS COMMITTEE SPRING 2019 MEETING THE INSTITUTE OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS, INC. www.transformerscommittee.org February 8, 2019 Dear Committee Members and Guests: As we enter into a second century of transformer standards development, we cordially invite you and your spouse/companion to Anaheim, California, USA, to attend the Spring 2019 meeting of the IEEE PES Transformers Committee, March 24–28. We look forward to welcoming you to the city that envisions itself as the center of family fun. Between Southern California theme parks and Orange County beaches, Anaheim is the place people go for year-round excitement and then are pleasantly surprised by the local culture and some of the richest array of entertainment options in Southern California. From sports teams to restaurants, shops, concert venues and holiday events — there is always something happening. HOTEL INFORMATION: Our meeting will be held just minutes from Disneyland® Resort at the Hilton Anaheim, 777 W. Convention Way. The Hilton offers five on-site restaurants, health club and spa, comfortable rooms and suites as well as a Disney® Desk, where cast members can be seen offering expert advice about Disneyland® and directing people to the non-stop Disneyland® ART bus stop right in front of the hotel. Our discounted guestroom rate at the hotel starts at US$169 per night and includes complimentary wireless internet in guestrooms and hotel public space as well as complimentary fitness center access for all overnight guests. Visit the Committee's website for a link to reserve a room, or if you call the hotel, mention "IEEE Transformers" to receive the group rate. The cut-off date for the group rate is Friday, March 1, but we expect the hotel to sell out before this date. GETTING THERE: The Hilton Anaheim is located approximately 15 miles/24 km north of John Wayne Airport (SNA). Taxi fare is approximately US$45 one way from the airport, and taxis are required to accept credit card payments. UBER and Lyft (US$30) are also approved for ridesharing at the John Wayne airport. Other area airports and transportation options are shown on the hotel’s website: Area Airports and Transportation Options. Self-parking in the hotel’s adjacent garage is US$21 per car per night. Valet parking is also available at a standard US$26 per car per night. MEETING REGISTRATION: Register on-line at www.transformerscommittee.org for social events, tours and the meeting. Register by Friday, March 1, to receive a US$50 early registration discount. The on-line registration system will be disabled on Wednesday, March 20, to print name badges and finalize counts. The cost to register on-site is substantially higher than the advance registration price, and some events may not be available for on-site registration. WEATHER: March temperatures in Anaheim are typically warm during the day and cooler at night with only a small chance of precipitation (average high of 73°F/23°C and evening low of 52°F/11°C). We are planning for an outdoor welcome reception and Wednesday night dinner social, so we are hoping for these averages to play out on the high side! Dress for the meeting is business casual. SATURDAY EARLY BIRD EVENT: If you arrive early, please join us for an evening of music and great food at Fire + Ice at GardenWalk. Select from a variety of fresh vegetables, meats, pastas, seasonings and sauces and watch pro-grillers sizzle up your masterpiece on an open grill. See flyer for details.

SUNDAY EVENING WELCOME RECEPTION: Renew old friendships and form new ones! This reception will be held outside (weather permitting) on the Hilton Anaheim’s Sunset Deck. Cash bars, plenty of fabulous food and live music will be provided. Registered meeting attendees and spouses/companions are welcome to attend. Please indicate whether you will attend this reception during the meeting registration process. SPOUSE/COMPANION TOURS: Monday’s excursion takes our guests Cruisin’ Up the Pacific Coast Highway to Dana Point, well known as the “Whale Watching Capital of the West.” Interactive jewelry-making workshop and lunch overlooking Dana Point harbor at the award-winning Waterman’s Harbor restaurant is followed by a guided tour of San Juan Capistrano and time to revisit favorite tour spots or explore the gardens, fountains and architecture on own before heading back to the hotel. Tuesday is Hooray for Hollywood! Upon arriving in Tinseltown, the day begins with a narrated, private double decker bus tour around Hollywood and Beverly Hills, showcasing the cities’ iconic venues and history before heading to lunch at the famous Mel’s Drive-In. After lunch, take an in-depth tour of Warner Bros. Studio where dynamic, engaging guides help guests experience real sets and soundstages where the greatest names in entertainment history have performed. Enjoy self-guided time at interactive Stage 48 and the retail store before a relaxing coach bus ride back to the hotel. See flyers for details and register early as attendance is limited. WEDNESDAY DINNER SOCIAL: Located inside Disney California Adventure Park, the Hyperion Courtyard is just outside the Hyperion Theatre where the theatrical interpretation of Disney’s animated film, Frozen, draws nightly crowds. In addition to soaking up all the excitement a Disney park has to offer, enjoy exclusive accommodations that include a tantalizing buffet and cash bar. Additionally, the wristband provided while boarding the shuttle at the hotel or upon your arrival on-site allows you entry to the park at large until closing at 10 PM. See flyer for dinner menu and details. ADDITIONAL MEETING INFORMATION: Along with this invitation letter, additional meeting information can be downloaded from the Committee’s website at www.transformerscommittee.org: • Registration Fees Summary – Use this as a guide to review the fees for each activity before you

SPOUSE/COMPANION TOUR

Monday, March 25, 2019 Cruisin’ Up the Pacific Coast Highway

Start your day with a scenic coach bus ride up the Pacific Coast Highway to Dana Point, well known as the “Whale Watching Capital of the West” and home to the award-winning Waterman’s Harbor, where the group will spend the first half of the day.
