As we grieved with Charleston and we watched, in awe, as they forgave the man who

stole the lives of their loved ones, I couldn’t help but think, “now THAT is true freedom.” In that one act of forgiveness, they became free from bitterness, free to heal & know God's comfort and free to love…even love the man that caused their pain. They forgive because God commanded it. They forgive because they made the CHOICE to live out Christ’s compassion and mercy. They chose to forgive & walk in freedom and, in doing so...LOVE WON.

When men and women first enter NLFY, they often will defend their right to hold a grudge; to be angry, hurt and even vengeful. And many have been victims of unthinkable acts; unforgiveness would be understandable. But then they come to realize this Divine paradox:

If we are to truly walk in freedom, we have to first realize that defending our "rights"...to be mad, to justify bad attitudes and behavior...is to insist on remaining imprisoned ourselves. True freedom is found in being what we are meant to be. We were created in the image of God. The closer we conform to the true image of God, the freer we become. Forgiveness is a part of that, and Charleston gave us all a glimpse of the bondage-breaking beauty of it when grace ruined evil's plan. We see God turn the plan of the enemy into a catalyst for good every day in the lives of the students at New Life For Youth. Thank You for your prayers & support!

ANXIOUS FOR NOTHING Alivia struggled with depression and anxiety most of her life.“After a bad break-up, I started having panic attacks, dropped out of college, started doing drugs & looking for love from men.”

The relationships Alivia turned to in an attempt to find love proved empty and destructive until she met a New Life For Youth graduate who told her about the love of God.

“I came to The Mercy House in October of last year and am more positive now, am working hard and looking forward to going back to school.”

Alivia sings and plays violin with The Mercy House ministry group, Trophies of Grace. She now hungers and thirsts after God and looks to Him alone for her comfort and strength.Psalm 63 tells how I thirst for God... “experiencing your loyal love is better than life itself, my lips will praise you.”

Alivia plans to return to college after graduation and resume her work with mentally challenged children.

“I can’t wait to see what God has in store for me!”

If you know someone like Alivia who needs freedom from their past and training for their future, call The Mercy House at 804-230-4485.
