• Please read 5 or more times a

week with your child.

• Write the date, the page

numbers read and sign each

time you read.

• Only comment where necessary.

• The teacher will check the

records each week and after the

child has read 10 times they will

receive a stamp in the book.

• Once they receive 10 stamps in

their books they will receive a

certificate.

• Please look after the reading

records carefully as there will be

a 50p charge to replace a lost

reading record.

Inside the reading record there

are tips for the person hearing

them read, the phonics they need

to know and the common

exception words.

Literacy Expectations•Use different words to start sentences e.g. As quick as a flash, a moment later

etc.

•Use conjunctions such as and, because.

•Use past or present tense correctly.

•Use capital letters, full stops, questions marks, exclamation marks,

•Use time adverbials e.g. first, before, next, then after, finally etc.

•Have a clear beginning, middle and end to work with ideas linking together.

•Use adjectives (juicy words) to engage their reader.

•Use topic words writing

Children must be able to read their own work back and be able to check it makes

sense.

By the end of year 1 they should be writing independently.

Within this we teach four topics practically:

• Number and place value – addition, subtractions, multiplication and division and fractions.

• Measurement – capacity/volume, mass/weight, time.

• Geometry – 2D and 3D shapes, position and direction.

• Problem Solving – worded one step problems.
