agile experience to date
3 months in agile project environment
1 launched project
3 inceptions
1 retrospective
4 active projects (including maintenance work)
pretty new at this!
![Page 3: Transitioning to Agile Project Management](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062420/55d097c8bb61ebd30f8b47ad/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
what does “agile” mean to you?
![Page 4: Transitioning to Agile Project Management](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062420/55d097c8bb61ebd30f8b47ad/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
we’ll focus on…
collecting requirements
estimating
budgeting
![Page 5: Transitioning to Agile Project Management](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062420/55d097c8bb61ebd30f8b47ad/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
how do you collect requirements?
- listen and ask questions
![Page 6: Transitioning to Agile Project Management](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062420/55d097c8bb61ebd30f8b47ad/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
understand the problem
the most important thing you do is
you own this
![Page 7: Transitioning to Agile Project Management](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062420/55d097c8bb61ebd30f8b47ad/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
the master story list
stories: how are we building this?
* the right level of detail
![Page 8: Transitioning to Agile Project Management](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062420/55d097c8bb61ebd30f8b47ad/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
the master story list

the master story list
points: how much effort?
* this is a range
![Page 10: Transitioning to Agile Project Management](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062420/55d097c8bb61ebd30f8b47ad/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
STORIES
![Page 11: Transitioning to Agile Project Management](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062420/55d097c8bb61ebd30f8b47ad/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
estimating
velocity: how fast?
* this is a team average after ~3 iterations
![Page 12: Transitioning to Agile Project Management](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062420/55d097c8bb61ebd30f8b47ad/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
![Page 13: Transitioning to Agile Project Management](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062420/55d097c8bb61ebd30f8b47ad/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
estimating
iterations: how long? how often
* showcases, IPM, retros…
![Page 14: Transitioning to Agile Project Management](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062420/55d097c8bb61ebd30f8b47ad/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
points aren’t always “it”
estimatingdesign(oy!)
![Page 15: Transitioning to Agile Project Management](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062420/55d097c8bb61ebd30f8b47ad/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
estimating
when you put it all together
you have an estimate
“and that’s what it’s all about”
![Page 16: Transitioning to Agile Project Management](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062420/55d097c8bb61ebd30f8b47ad/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
– every client ever
“…how much is it going to cost?”
![Page 17: Transitioning to Agile Project Management](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062420/55d097c8bb61ebd30f8b47ad/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
agile & risk
estimates will change
you get flexibility through iterations
why? to move fast and adapt as needed
![Page 18: Transitioning to Agile Project Management](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062420/55d097c8bb61ebd30f8b47ad/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
my take-aways
points are still confusing but…
estimates are awesome if you communicate well
risk is minimized if you communicate well
agile can succeed if you communicate well
cost | scope | schedule: you still can’t get all three :(
![Page 19: Transitioning to Agile Project Management](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062420/55d097c8bb61ebd30f8b47ad/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
did you catch that communication part?
