The Student Affairs division has focused since the mid-1990’s on the design and implementation of systems that support students in the achievement of their career and educational goals. This work has been accomplished through the development of three major systems: LifeMap, Atlas, and Learning-Centered Student Services.

QEP – The Next Big Idea to Guide Our Work into the Future

Many of Valencia's current programs and innovative solutions began as commonly held ideas about the way students learn. So, in preparation for the development of

Valencia's Quality Enhancement Plan - recognizing that the plan should evolve from existing work – we are focusing on the emerging ideas within the College to build the

foundation for this work. Valencia's current Big Ideas have laid the groundwork for us to innovate, create and achieve our mission authentically. Through our discussions, considering what we already know about our students, and by connecting to the

national conversation on student completion, it is our hope that these courses of action will produce the emergence of our next "big idea."

Academic AffairsThe Division of Academic Affairs and Planning includes the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Planning and six departments that report to the Vice President:

• The Office of Career and Workforce Education• The Office of Curriculum and Articulation• Faculty and Instructional Development• The Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning• The Office of Resource Development• Teaching/Learning Academy (TLA)• The Vice President for Academic Affairs and Planning oversees these

offices and is also responsible for 2 of the 4 Governing Councils at the College: the College Learning Council (CLC) and the College Planning Council (CPC). As such, the Vice President serves as Co-Chair on both of these Councils.

 

Student Affairs

New Student Experience (NSE)

Valencia College provides a coordinated experience for all new students. The New Student Experience includes a required credit-earning course and provides an extended orientation to college, integrated student success skills, career and academic advising, which includes the development of an individualized education plan. We envision that the new student experience will result in curricular and co-curricular student engagement, leading to the successful completion of the first 15 college-level credits at Valencia. Wherever possible, the curricular aspects of the new student experience will be offered in partnership with faculty in academic and career programs.

• Criminal Justice Institute (CJI): The mission of the Criminal Justice Institute (CJI) at Valencia College is to prepare criminal justice officers to protect and serve.  The institute offers a world-class learning environment in our 77,000 square foot, state-of-the-art training facility.

• East Campus: Valencia College’s  East Campus is located at 701 North Econlockhatchee Trail in East Orange County.  Just outside the city limits, the campus proudly serves approximately 15,000 students annually.  East

• Campus, known for its friendly and caring faculty and staff, has received recognition in several academic areas.

• Osceola Campus: Study in your community. The Osceola Campus is conveniently located off of U.S. Highway 192 in Kissimmee, just down the road from the Silver Spurs Arena.

• West Campus: Valencia College, a premier institution within the state's college system, serves Orange and Osceola counties in Central Florida. The West Campus is located on a 180 acre site in West Orange County.

JUST THE FACTS• Winter Park: The Winter Park Campus is located in the heart of Winter

Park, at the corner of Morse Blvd and Denning Dr, steps from the popular Park Avenue shopping district and the new SunRail station. This campus is home to the Jeffersonian Honors Program, which is focused on producing active, global citizens. The faculty, staff, and students of the Winter Park Campus routinely engage with the community through service-based projects at multiple facilities, including the Winter Park Community Center and the DePugh Nursing Home.

• Lake Nona Campus: Valencia College is excited to be joining the other partners of Lake Nona Medical City. The Lake Nona campus contains 18 classrooms, 2 computer labs, 6 science labs, Learning Support Services (including tutoring, assessment services, and computer access), a campus store, a café, a library and an amazing outdoor courtyard for student events.

Programs, Signature Events, Outreach and Partnerships

Understand the role of Transitions Planning in partnership with the school districts  Identify high school programs and signature events and learn how they support students transitioning into post-secondary institutions

Compile a list of initiatives to merge to support aligned efforts

Recognize opportunities to network and collaborate within the college and the Orange and Osceola County communities

 

Understand how the college’s QEP applies to the role of the Coaches and Transitions Planning Coordinators

 

Improved coordination and collaboration of K-12 outreach partnerships and services.  Knowledge of programming options featured through The Valencia Experience and how to incorporate these experiences into the scope of the work of each coach.

Transitions by Valencia is an initiative that provides pre-collegiate awareness programming and recruitment services to Orange and Osceola district schools and the community. The Transitions Team focuses on creating gateways to student success from the start through signature events, targeted outreach and community partnerships.

Transitions by Valencia

Information SessionsFuture students and their families are encouraged to attend an information session to learn more about Valencia College. Information sessions last approximately one and a half hours and include an informational presentation on our academic programs, financial aid, the Honors program, and the admission process. A question and answer session will follow each presentation. A campus tour will begin your information session led by a current student leader.

Group VisitsGroup Visits are designed for schools or organizations interested in bringing a group of eight or more people to learn about Valencia College. Group Visits are scheduled on available week days and last 1 to 2 hours. Our group visit experience includes a campus tour led by a Valencia student leader and an information session presented by a Transitions Coordinator.

High School Visits During the fall and spring of the academic year, Valencia Coordinators will visit with high school juniors and seniors to share enrollment information through interactive presentations and recruitment opportunities.

Experience Valencia Group Visit Requests

Group visits are designed for middle or high schools/organizations to bring a group of future students to learn about Valencia College. Transitions Planning staff at Valencia College provides the necessary accommodations for your group to have an unforgettable Valencia experience. A standard visit includes information on topics such as: Steps to Enroll, Financial Aid, Student Life, Programs and Degrees, and a campus tour.

Group visits are scheduled at 10 am on select Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Summer visits are only scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Criteria6th – 12th grade only15 – 50 maximumRequest must be received 4 weeks in advance

Types of Visit
