Welcome aboard ladies and gentlemen!

We hope you are enjoying the fl ight wherever you may be going today and we hope the service you have been receiving is up to your expectations.

So much has been happening lately with the airline – fi rst and foremost it was the recent granting of the AOC (Air Operator’s Certifi cate) and the expansion of our fl eet with the acquiring of another Fokker 50 that will help us accommodate the increasing interest of travel to the east of Indonesia – our area!

Yes, it’s all beginning to happen out here in Indonesia’s east and we at TransNusa are witnessing it fi rst hand – and its not just speculation. We have added new routes to our ever-expanding destination list and added fl ights to already existing routes.

The big news was the commencement of our thrice weekly fl ights from Kupang to popular Makassar; what a host of possibilities that introduces – Indonesia’s far east connected at last to all that the north off ers – the chance for travellers to explore with easier access more of Indonesia.

Because of the increasing demand we have had to add with pleasure the number of fl ights to Ruteng in the mountainous area of popular Flores; from fi ve a week to daily.

As you can see, we are being kept busy, and to highlight some of our destinations, the Jan /Feb infl ight magazine features Bali’s popular Sanur resort area in a story entitled Sanur Walk the walk. The magazine also features our new destination Makassar as well as a story on the very popular Gili islands with a focus on Gili Meno.

We hope you have had a wonderful festive season and for those who celebrate Chinese New Year “Gong Xi Fa Cai!

Kabar besar lainya adalah dibukanya kembali penerbangan ke Larantuka dari Kupang empat kali seminggu serta penerbangan ke Makassar yang popular dari Kupang tiga kali seminggu - yang memungkinkan Indonesia bagian timur tehubung dengan Indonesia bagian utara – merupakan kesempatan bagi wisatawan untuk mengeksplorasi Indonesia (terutama Indonesia Timur) menjadi lebih mudah.

Untuk mengakomodasi permintaan para pelanggan, TransNusa menambahkan frekuensi penerbangan ke Ruteng dari Kupang, yang sebelumnya 5X seminggu menjadi setiap hari.

Seperti yang Anda lihat, kami sibuk menyoroti beberapa tujuan TransNusa, majalah TransNusa infl ight edisi Jan-Feb mengangkat cerita Sanur, salah satu kawasan resort di Bali yang popular, Makassar – merupakan tujuan baru kami, serta Lombok dengan kepulauan Gilinya yang popular, terutama Gili Meno.

Makassar was once the main harbor and trade center in pre-colonial Indonesia. It is situated in the South of Sulawesi, right in the center of the Archipelago. Currently, it is a big, but pleasant city, with Losari Beach as its main attraction.

Makassar is a big city, with all the facilities cities have. However you never feel you are in Indonesia’s 3rd largest city – the feeling of the sea and villages on the water’s edge is more what permeates the atmosphere in Makassar situated as it rides on Losari Beach – the only place to be on a Makassar evening when the most intense of Indonesia’s sunsets envelopes you and everyone nearby.

Ibukota Sulawesi Selatan, kembali ke nama aslinya – Makassar sebelumnya dikenal dengan nama Ujung Pandang. Makassar memiliki arti yang sangat luar biasa. Nama ini mengingatkan kita pada masa kejayaan Kerajaan Gowa pada abad 16 serta orang-orang Bugis - para pelaut berani yang mengarungi samudra dengan kapal layarnya yang terkenal. Walaupun kehidupan modern telah memasuki daerah ini, Anda masih dapat menikmati keindahan pantainya. Bahkan pohon kelapa dan beberapa rumah para pelaut masih terlihat jelas.

The foodstalls that used to be on the beach, are gone, but there is a selection of cheap and a few expensive restaurants. After dinner walk on the boulevard. You will get a lot of attention, but everybody is friendly. On the street, boys show off some bike acrobatics. You can watch them, together with the locals.

It’s worth visiting Fort Rotterdam built in the time of the Dutch - walk on the old walls and imagine days gone by.

The capital of South Sulawesi, has once again returned to its original name - Makassar. And what’s in a name? Well, this one defi nitely cannot leave you cold... A name which conjures up images of lonely boat sailing around the archipelago and beyond, undeterred and breathtaking in their simple elegance; of Bugis pirates and mystical lands from long ago where the scent of the spice trade is as strong as the tales of black magic; and yes, a city of very direct ways but a welcoming city nonetheless, lazily stretched out on a beach yet leaning towards the lush hills to the east. Perhaps the bustle of modern living hasn’t left everything unspoilt; previously virgin beaches, still fringed with coconut palms if not as abundantly, are now a home to sailors and hawkers alike.

Bagi Anda yang gemar memanjakan perut, kota Makassar tidak akan mengecewakan. Walau berada di daerah perairan bukan berarti hanya hidangan ikan saja yang dapat dinikmati disini. Cobalah Coto Makassar(sejenis soto dan saya yakin setiap daerah di Indonesia memiliki versi sendiri dengan soto)! Kebanyakan soto berwarna kekuning-kuningan, atau bening - Coto Makassar sangat berbeda, warnanya agak kecoklatan karena menggunakan daging dan jeroan sapi yang dimasak dengan air cucian beras, kacang tanah dan rempah-rempah. Makanan ini disantap dengan buras atau ketupat. Rasaya luar bisa. Dan jangan lupa mencoba Sop Sodara, Sop Konro dan Es palu butung. Serta mencicipi ikan segar bakar atau goreng khas Makassar yang Anda dapat jumpai di sepanjang jalan utama pelabuhan.

For those of you who judge a destination by what lands in your stomach, Makassar does not disappoint. Lieing by the water, fi sh is forever plentiful but the word that most comes to mind is Coto Makassar (every area in Indonesia has its own version of soto). Most sotos are yellowish and basically are chicken and noodles – Coto Makassar is probably one of the main reasons the Makasserese are so tough and brave, as that is what you have to be to consume this delicacy consisting of liver, lung, intestines and a host of other goodies that makes the broth the colour of gravy – good luck. You can taste other local delicacies and freshly caught fi sh down the main stretch of this curious port.

Man-handling all the curves on the road and running all the lights from Lombok’s new international airport, our writer’s driver gave him the skinny on the Gili islands while persuading him to head for Gili Meno, the least known of the Gilis. “Cmon now, what are you waiting for, for, for?”

Orang-orang sibuk memasang penerangan jalan disepanjang airport baru Lombok, sopir penulis kami memberi sedikit gambaran mengenai kepulauan Gili, sementara dia membujuknya menuju ke Gili Meno, yang tidak terlalu populer dari pulau Gili lainya. “Ayolah apa yang kamu tunggu tunggu?”

I’m sure it’s happened to you – the taxi driver whose true vocation in life should’ve been tour guide, entertainer or marketing expert – he was all that plus plus, as well as ‘careless driver’ if you consider how astute he was at negotiating the windy Lombok roads with one hand on the wheel, one eye on the road and one eye on us, his passengers. Driving was purely from memory and largely guess work. Yes you get the picture ... and despite the rivetting travelogue, I was more interested in getting to Bangsal where I could catch an outrigger to the Gilis. With the words of Rihana’s popular song ‘Shut up and drive’ ringing through my mind, I was close to telling ‘big mouth’ to get on with his job – driving.

Here however is, in essence, with my own embellishments (added to his) the gist of what he said.

Wherever you may be in the distant realms of our planet you will run into travellers, former hippies or executives on a career break that remember some islands off the west coast of Lombok called The Gilis for what they once were - islands famous or infamous, depending on your point of view, for their getaway, back pack, moonlight party, dive in crystal clear waters attractions.

That was long before the likes of Ko Samui and her sister islands of ecstasy became the capital of the south east Asia lunar beach party scene, appropriately complimenting the present “el cheepo” backpacking trend that sees the cost conscious traveller now concentrating their manoeuvres on the Ho Chi Minh trail, Laos, Cambodia and the “chill out” beaches and islands of the south of Thailand.

Good news for the three small coral islands off the west coast of Lombok who have, as a result, inched their way slowly towards the higher end of the travel market, preferring to cater to those with a little more cash in their pockets, those with a little more insistence on luxuries – simple but necessary, like WiFi, sports TV, cable, hot water (essentials!!!) crisp white sheets, Eggs Benedict etc. Let’s not get too extravagant but maybe throw in some Dom!

Saya yakin hal itu pernah terjadi pada Anda - sopir taksi yang panggilan hatinya mungkin sebagai seorang pemandu wisata, seniman atau ahli pemasaran - dia memiliki semua itu ditambah; seorang pengemudi yang ceroboh, jika Anda memperhatikan bagaimana cerdiknya ia bernegosiasi di jalan yang berliku Lombok dengan satu tangan di setir, satu mata di jalan dan satu mata pada kami, penumpangnya. Yang mana mengemudi murni dari ingatannya dan sebagian besar menebak. Ya, Anda dapat mengambarkannya ... meskipun perjalanannya cukup menarik, saya lebih tertarik untuk segera tiba di Bangsal dimana saya bisa mengambil perahu untuk segera mengantarkan saya ke Gili Meno. Dengan kata-kata dari lagunya Rihana yang berjudul ‘ Shut up and drive ‘ mendengung dipikiran saya, hampir saja saya mengatakan hal tersebut diatas.

Di manapun tempat yang mungkin pernah Anda kunjungi di planet ini, tidak terlepas dari wisatawan, para back packer dan executive dalam liburannya selalu mengunjungi beberapa pulau-pulau yang terletak dilepas pantai barat Lombok yang disebut Gili, pesta dibawah cahaya bulan, menyelam di perairan sejernih kristal.

Kabar baik untuk ketiga pulau karang kecil di lepas pantai barat Lombok, perlahan-lahan mereka telah menempatkan diri mereka ke pasar yang lebih tinggi, fasilitas dan kemewahanpun lebih ditingkatkan. Mulai dari free WiFi, Kabel TV, air panas, seprei yang putih bersih, telur Benedict dll.

Kepulauan Gili sekarang menjadi magnet bagi para penyelam dan pelancong hampir dari seluruh penjuru dunia.

Kepulauan ini memiliki banyak terumbu karang, itu sebabnya mereka memiliki begitu banyak jenis ikan, dan karang birunya yang terkenal – merupakan kebutuhan mendasar bagi wisata menyelam. Tetapi apa yang membuat kepulauan Gili sangat istimewa. Perairan ini memiliki biota laut yang




The Gilis are now a magnet for divers and others on short vacation breaks from around the world.

They have a lot of coral, that’s why they have so much fish, and their blue coral is famous in its own right. The Gilis also have the odd wreck or two and water of the clearest blue variety - the basics needed for most idyllic dive sites. But what makes the Gili islands so special, however, is the mélange and abundance of a marine life that finds its home in those coral reefs and crystal clear waters that surround each island; among the richest in the world with over 3.500 species. It’s this sheer profusion of marine life that will take your breath away. When you compare that with the Great Barrier Reef and it’s 1,500 species and the Red Sea with its 600 species, you realize that the Gilis are major players in the premier dive-site stakes.

Now that diving has been covered let’s not forget the island themselves. After all you don’t spend all your time in the water. There are three Gilis remember, and most arrivals may already know something about Gili Trawangan and Gili Air (not pronounced like that stuff you breathe, but aiyer or like the ‘i yar’ in (H)i ya goin, mate?).

Gili Trawangan, the largest of Lombok’s three coral islands, and the furthest flung from the mainland was the original party-animal island. And while there is more night-life on Trawangan than on the other islands, the “animals” are now tame and melt into a foreshore strip of snazzy restaurants and beachside cafes where a relaxing drink in the evening often precedes dining on some of the best cuisine in Indonesia.

Gili Trawangan even has a hill to explore and conquer. From the summit you look down on a sleepy township reminiscent of those turn-of-the- century south sea island settlements written about by the Somerset Maughams extolling the charms of the far-east island mystique. Gili Air is closest to the mainland, the first to be conquered by the back-pack brigade and with the biggest local population. While everything may seem quiet around your secluded hotel, if you wander off to the other parts of the island you’ll surely run into locals doing what they’ve always done - men tending their coconut trees, chickens on the run and of course fishing boats. But with all that you never lose the magic feeling of staying on a serene tropical island. More and more bars and restaurants are springing up and likewise ‘home stay’ is becoming a thing of the past. Along with a range of professional dive outfits, are hotels like The Gili Air, one of the oldest on the Gilis, that are upgrading their facilities.

But what about that other one - Gili Meno?

As if to preserve a perfect balance, one island, Gili Meno, stands out located between the others with a uniqueness of its own. It takes pride in preserving that island getaway feeling – that evening stroll on a quiet beach that might become a watercolour of a crimson setting sun; that dive amongst multi coloured fish that might mean an encounter with a turtle

You don’t have to be a Robinson Crusoe if you don’t want to be. You can dive The Gili Meno Wall with its turtles, Moray eels, Spanish Dancers - maybe some sharks, some barracuda - that’s why it’s well-known. You get to see underwater stuff , big time!

Meno has a lake that adds to its charm, the water is brackish but cranes and other birds haven’t been told and by the water’s edge they settle on an old branch; the perfect lure for photographers and pro bird watchers.There is a bird park on the island as well as a turtle sanctuary – yes, the green cards are being played appropriately, and one of the Gilis is richer for it.

The taxi begins to slow as our driver, a reincarnation of Ayrton Senna tries to make another point, but by now you’ve decided which Gili it is to be, so all you (and perhaps Rihanna might) say is “ Shut up and drive! Get me to the Gilis!”

Bali’s original beach resort is a little harder to place. Partly, it’s the centuries of history, the tales of sorcery and magic, and those strange shrines along the beach. trees. A few metres inland from Jalan Tamblingan, the transport touts, the ex-pat villas and the fi ne hotels could be a universe away. Sanur goes about its business as it has for over a millenia.

Tucked away off Jalan Poso, protected by a glass case, is Bali’s oldest dated artefact. Inscribed on one side in ancient Balinese and on the other in Sanskrit, the Belanjong pillar tells of the victories of King Sri Kesari Warmadewa from the dynasty that built Borobodur, and the Mahayana Buddhist monastery he founded here in AD 914.

A few centuries later, the region was conquered by Kertanegara, an East Javanese king steeped in the mysteries of Tantric Buddhism. Ever since, Sanur’s had a reputation for spiritual power, trance rituals and magic. Some of the most powerful sorcerers and healers on the island are reputed to live in the quiet back lanes.

‘Even the rajahs treated Sanur with care,’ a Balinese friend tells me. ‘The old villages here – Taman, Intasari, Anggarkasih – they’ve always been Brahmana strongholds. Denpasar’s kings drew many of their advisors from here.’ Even today, among the Balinese, Sanur is better known for its scholars, dancers and sorcerers than for the hotels or water sports that bring thousands of visitors every year. It’s those old families who are largely responsible for the fact that Sanur still retains its laid-back village feel.

It’s well worth searching out Sanur’s secrets along those shady lanes, browsing in the shops along Jalan Tamblingan and trying out the local restaurants, but the day-tripping families that come out from Denpasar and the foreign visitors agree: Sanur’s main attraction is its beach.

The strip that meanders from the black sands of Matahari Terbit to Pura Mertasari half a dozen kilometres further south isn’t just used for sunbathing and splashing in the waves, candlelight dinners and barbecues, water sports or even catching fi sh. For the Balinese, it’s also a place of magic and mysteries and the site of numerous ceremonies.

Beberapa abad kemudian, wilayah itu ditaklukkan oleh Raja Kertanegara dari Jawa Timur yang membuat era Budha tenggelam. Semenjak saat itu, Sanur memiliki reputasi untuk kekuatan spiritual, ritual dan magis. Beberapa ahli-ahli magis dan penyembuh yang terkuat di pulau ini konon tinggal di daerah yang tenang ini.

“Bahkan para raja-raja merawat Sanur dengan baik, ‘teman saya dari Bali mengatakan. “Desa tua di sini masih ada - Taman, Intasari, Anggarkasih - mereka adalah kaum Brahmana yang kuat. Raja Denpasar mengambil para penasehatnya kebanyakan dari daerah ini. “Bahkan saat ini, di antara daerah yang ada di Bali, Sanur lebih dikenal dengan sarjanawan, penari, hotel dan olahraga air. Hal inilah yang menarik ribuan pengunjung datang setiap tahunnya. Keluarga-keluarga inilah yang sebagian besar bertanggung jawab untuk mempertahankan Sanur agar tetap asri.

Cobalah, jalan rahasia Sanur melalui jalur-jalur teduh, melihat-lihat toko-toko disepanjang Jl. Danau Tamblingan dan mencoba restoran-restoran lokal, tetapi jika bertepatan dengan hari libur, dimana para turis lokal dari Denpasar hadir, turis asing pun setuju; atraksi yang paling menarik di Sanur adalah pantainya.

No wonder everyone from the Ministry of Tourism to the fi shermen who haul their brightly-painted outriggers up on the beach were worried when the sand began to disappear. The currents had changed and Sanur’s beaches were being washed away.

Stone-faced groins which curve into the water were producd, ending in tiny tile-roofed pavilions that frame the views of Mt Agung to the north and the cliff s of Nusa Penida to the east. At Sindhu, where once, cafes hung on the edge of the waves, now beach dogs romp, teenagers play netball and visitors sunbathe on a swathe of golden sand dredged out of the channel beyond the reef.

The ‘Sanur Walk’, a shady path and cycle track that used to run from the end of Jalan Hang Tuah down to the cluster of beachside restaurants at Semawang is delightful. Closed to motorised traffi c, it’s the perfect place for a morning run, a sunset stroll, or to explore it from end to end, a lazy bicycle ride.

Pantai SanurThe northernmost tip of the beach lies at the end of Jalan Hang Tuah near the Inna Grand Bali Beach. When the locals talk about Pantai Sanur, this is where they mean. Soon after dawn and near sunset it’s very much a local beach. Children splash and shout in the shallows, men and women in t-shirts and sarongs wade out into the seagrass meadows and itinerant foodsellers sell sticky black rice in brown paper packages and freshly-roasted cobs of maize. On Sundays and holidays when Denpasar’s families come out to play, it’s hard to fi nd a space. Yet it didn’t use to be this way.

Garis pantai mulai dari pasir hitam di Pura Matahari Terbit hingga ke Pura Mertasari, kurang lebih 6 km jauhnya, tidak hanya digunakan sebagai tempat untuk berjemur, menikmati sejuknya percikan air laut, makan malam yang romantis, olahraga air atau memancing. Bagi orang Bali sendiri, tempat ini merupakan suatu tempat suci untuk melakukan upacara keagamaan. Tak heran semua orang mulai dari Departemen Pariwisata hingga para nelayan yang mewarnai kapal (jukung) mereka dengan warna yang terang khawatir ketika pasir mulai hilang terbawa arus.

Wajah berbatu tumbuh melengkung dari dalam air, berakhir dengan bale kecil beratap yang membingkai pemandangan Gunung Agung di sebelah utara, tebing-tebing, pulau Nusa Penida tampak di sebelah timur. Di pantai Sindhu, di mana tampak cafe-cafe terletak disepanjang tepi pantai, para remaja bermain voli dan turis asing sedang berjemur di pasir keemasan yang melengkung menjorok diantara batu karang.

Jalur setapak berpafi ng yang teduh digunakan para pejalan kaki untuk bor-joging dan bersepeda terbentang mulai dari Jl. Hang Tuah, menyusuri restoran tepi pantai sangatlah menyenangkan. Tertutup bagi kendaraan bermotor, merupakan tempat yang sempurna untuk menikmati matahari terbit sambil berolah raga dan menjelajahi Sanur dari ujung ke ujung.

Pantai SanurMulai dari ujung utara pantai Sanur yaitu Jl. Hang Tuah, dekat dengan Inna Grand Bali Beach. Jika penduduk lokal berbicara tentang pantai Sanur, inilah yang mereka maksud. Pada hari Minggu dan hari libur ketika keluarga Denpasar keluar untuk bermain, tempat ini menjadi sangat ramai.

Kembali ke tahun 1930-an ketika pelukis, Adrien-Jean Le Mayeur, membeli tanah di sini, penduduk setempat mengira ia gila. Karena pada saat upacara keagamaan penyucian, warga Hindu melemparkan sesaji mereka ke laut. Bukan hanya itu, setelah upacara pembakaran mayat, masyarakat Hindu melakukan upacara pembuangan abu yang dihanyutkan di pantai.

Beberapa upacara keagamaan, biasanya diakhiri dengan prosesi di pantai, penduduk Sanur masih melakukan prosesi pembakaran mayat di atas pasir, dan di sepanjang jalan ada tempat-tempat suci dan kuil-kuil yang tersembunyi di antara pohon-pohon waru laut dan kembang sepatu atau rimbunan pohon pandan. Bukan ukiran patung berlumut, dengan atap jerami (meru jerami) dengan ukiran singgasana kecil yang ditemukan hampir diseluruh pulau ini. Sering pula Anda jumpai sebongkah batu karang atau pohon beringin berselendang kain kotak-kotak hitam putih dimana disebelahnya menancap sebuah payung ciri khas Bali.

Jika Le Mayeur merasa terganggu oleh warisan pantai Sanur, hal itu tidak akan dapat mengilhami karyanya. Keluar dari keluarga aristokrat, Ia adalah sepupu raja Belgia yang menghabiskan dua puluh enam tahun melukis dan telah menjual begitu banyak hasil karyanya kepada-dunia diawal tahun Bali mulai menggeluti bidang pariwisata. Sayangnya, banyak karyanya telah memudar dan usang dimakan waktu, tetapi rumah tersebut

Back in the 1930s when the painter, Adrien-Jean Le Mayeur, bought land here, the locals thought he was mad. In those days temple processions wound through the unpaved lanes to hold ceremonies of purifi cation and toss off erings into the surf. Cremation pyres fl ared on the sands, ashes were tossed into the waves, but powerful spirits stalked the beach and unpredictable deities lived in the sea. Unless there was a ritual need, the Balinese left the coastline to the spirits, the cows that grazed beneath the coconut trees, and the occasional fi sherman.

Those temple processions still make their way down to the beach, local banjar still hold cremations on the sand, and all along the Sanur Walk there are shrines and temples hidden among sea almond and hibiscus trees or clumps of pandanus. These aren’t the carved enclosures with mossy statues, thatched meru roofs and tiny carved thrones found over much of the island. Often they’re no more than a battered umbrella sheltering a pile of coral stones or a wisp of cloth tied around the bole of a tree. Others come with luridly-painted demons or carnival-style sea creatures. Almost always, tied around them or fl apping somewhere near, is a length of the black and white chequered cloth that’s the standard of Bali’s netherworld and the guardian of the threshold between the seen and the unseen.

If Le Mayeur was troubled by Sanur’s dark heritage, it didn’t feed his work. Escaping his aristocratic family, the king of Belgium’s cousin spent twenty-six years painting sensuous women and selling many of his canvases to the round-the-world travellers of Bali’s early tourism years. Sadly, much of his work has faded and frayed over the years, but

there’s still a charm to the house, now a museum, where he and his model, Ni Polok, entertained those early tourists along with resident foreigners like the anthropologist Margaret Mead, the novelist and screenwriter Vikki Baum and the choreographer who helped create the island’s famous kecak dance, Katharane Mershon. Long closed for renovations, it’s recently reopened to coincide with the improvements along the beach.

The Sanur Walk winds on through the grounds of the Grand Bali Beach where the brightly-painted outriggers called jukung crowd together on the sand. It’s easy enough to hire one for a snorkeling trip out to the reef, a visit to Serangan island, or a fi shing trip by lantern light after dark, but cheaper to negotiate directly with the boatmen further south. Off shore, in the rainy season, a decent break draws surfers, but once the winds shift round in April it’s the windsurfers who take over, their brightly-coloured sails scudding across the lagoon.

Sindhu and BatujimbarWith their beach masseurs, manicurists and temporary tattoo artists, the cluster of cafes and souvenir shops at Sindhu are as near as Sanur gets to Kuta’s hard sell. Yet commerce hasn’t quite taken over. Fishermen still jack their jukung up on blocks in the shade by the Mango Café to sand and repaint them, women disappear into the mysterious temple behind coral walls nearby, young men show off their muscles playing volleyball and older ones linger over a chessboard or a hand of cards in the shade of the beachside trees.

Nelayan masih menambatkan jukung mereka di tempat teduh berdekatan dengan Mango Café di atas pasir dan memperbaikinya, perempuan menghilang di balik pura yang berdinding karang, pria-pria muda memamerkan otot-otot mereka bermain bola voli dan yang lebih tua berlama-lama di atas papan catur atau sedang bermain kartu di bawah naungan pohon-pohon di pinggir pantai.

Angin laut berhembus, deburan ombak terdengar, matahari terbenam tampak begitu dekat, serasa Anda dapat menyentuhnya membuat suasana relaks dan romantis di restorant ini.

It’s defi nitely an Italian restaurant (the name) but don’t worry if you have Asian or other tastes in food. There’s superb Tom Yam soup and other Asian delights such as lumpia and all the other “gorengs” like mie and nasi (fried rice and fried noodles).

But it does sport the red white and green – so try the ravioli con pomodoro – fi lled pasta with tomato sauce and optional spinach or select from the meats and fi sh dishes – Café Alberto is as mentioned before right on the beach and the fi sh is as fresh as.

Beyond Sindhu, small hotels edge the path and white napkins folded on polished tables, mirror-edge pools and sunloungers set out beneath canvas umbrellas hold up Sanur’s reputation as a quietly upmarket resort. Hidden in the midst in them is the fi rst of Bali’s boutique hotels. Fifty years on, Tanjung Sari has settled into a reclusive old age, but with its carved doorways and coral walls, its shrines and statues hidden among the trees, it still carries more than a whiff of the mystique it had from the sixties to the eighties when it’s beachside bar was the local hangout of the resident Australian artist Donald Friend and a favourite with the international set.

After a while, the path narrows, pandanus and morning glory nibble at the fringes and it looks as if the Sanur Walk might be about to peter out. It isn’t. Hidden behind the beautiful coral gateways and simple wooden doors designed by the Sri Lankan architect, Geoff rey Bawa, the residents of Batujimbar, Bali’s fi rst dream home estate, guard their privacy.

SemawangThough watersports are on off er all along the beach, it’s south of The Hyatt’s tropical parkland gardens that they get seriously underway. A good few diveboats bob in the lagoon, for though Sanur itself isn’t one of the island’s better sites, not far off shore the seabed dives deep and the cool water that wells up around Nusa Penida brings reef sharks, manta rays and even huge sunfi sh. Strong currents mean this isn’t for beginners.- for PADI courses and introductory dives, those beachside diveshops bus their clients further up the coast – but for those with experience, diving off Nusa Penida isn’t to be missed.

For the less adventurous, there are glass-bottomed canoes, snorkeling gear and trips out to the reef. A little further south, kiosks rent out catamarans, off er sailing lessons, wind-surfi ng, parasailing and water-skiing. Jetskis rented by the quarter hour skim across the waves, engines humming, tossing up silver plumes in their wake and every

SemawangMeskipun banyak olahraga air ditawarkan sepanjang pantai, di sebelah selatan Hyatt, tampak beberapa dive boat sedang menambatkan dirinya di laut. Meskipun Sanur bukanlah tempat untuk diving, tetapi Anda dapat dengan mudah untuk menemukan dive operator disini. Beberapa pilihan tempat untuk menyelam dapat Anda lakukan tergantung dari kemampuan Anda. Nusa Penida dengan hiu karang, ikan pari bahkan mola-mola yang besar. Tetapi dengan arusnya yang kuat tempat ini bukan untuk pemula – namun bagi yang sudah berpengalaman, diving di Nusa Penida jangan sampai ketinggalan.

For the seriously lazy or those who need to recharge, there are plenty of sunloungers on the sand and a string of cafes to supply chilled juices, ice-cold beer and everything from nasi goreng to chilled gazpacho and strawberry cheesecake.

The far south of the Sanur Walk is the most surreal. Swimsuited guests laze round the pools of luxury hotels, upmarket restaurants and bars front onto the sands and watersports are still serious business. Then suddenly, it all stops. There’s simply a wide stretch of sand, the limestone wall of Mertasari temple, scattered shrines and the last of the headlands. Beyond, next to a couple of rusting portacabins, earth-moving machines doze among piles of limestone and dredged sand. Soon, all the evidence will be gone, but if the engineers have got it right, Sanur’s beach will be around for at least a few more centuries.

Jetski disewakan per 15 menit lamanya mesin berderu, membelah ombak, tampak dari kejauhan sebuah parasut berwarna pelangi melayang diatas permukaan air laut. Bagi yang benar-benar ingin bermalas-malasan, yang hanya ingin menikmati hangatnya matahari dan segarnya minuman dingin, serangkaian cafe-cafe menyuguhkan jus segar dan bir dingin penghilang dahaga, tidak ketinggalan hidangan mulai dari nasi goreng hingga Gazpacho dingin dan cheesecake strawberry.

Jauh di sebelah Selatan Sanur adalah yang paling nyata. Turis asing tampak berbaring bermalas-malasan di sekitar kolam hotel mewah menikmati hangatnya sinar matahari. Lalu tiba-tiba, semua itu berhenti. Yang ada hanya hamparan pasir yang luas, berdinding batu kapur adalah Pura Mertasari, merupakan pura terbesar dan yang terakhir.

Gubernur NTT, Frans Lebu Raya yang sedianya menandatangani prasasti T-MORE hotel & lounge, tidak hadir dan diwakili Asisten III Setda NTT, Eddy Ismail.

11 - 11 - 2011 saw the Grand Opening of the T-More hotel and lounge. The event was hosted by renowned MC, Nico Siahaan and Sara Widjayanto and was attended by several legislators from NTT such as Herman Heri, Saleh Husin, Joseph Nai Soi, Chairman of Parliament NTT, IAMedah, Mayor of Kupang, Daniel Adoe, Regent Ende, Don Bosco, Victor BungtiluWangge Laiskodat. The Governor of NTT, Frans Lebu Raya who was originally to sign the memorial inscription stone couldn’t attend and was represented by Setda NTTAssistant III, Eddy Ismail.


Hotel berbintang tiga ini diharapkan dapat memberikan nuansa baru bagi perkembangan ekonomi dan pariwisata di NTT. Sebagai kota yang sedang berkembang, Kupang memilki target, market yang cukup menjanjikan. Hal inilah yang medasari pemikiran Direktur Utama T-MORE hotel & lounge, Juvi Jodjana untuk membangun hotel bintang tiga tersebut.

“Pembangunan hotel ini boleh dibilang tepat waktu, dari peletakan batu pertama April 2010 dan hari ini secara resmi hotel dibuka. Fans of tennis are no doubt looking forward to the Aussie open (possible by presstime already decided), French Open (27 May – 10 June) and the grande dame of tennis events, Wimbledon (starting 25 June). They are wondering whether Federer is finished, whether Nadal can take revenge on dynamic 2011’s all conquering Jokovic or whether Andy Murray can ‘do it’ for England.

Lovers of football (Soccer) have so much to look forward to. The English Premier League is already hotting up with Man City, Arsenal and perhaps Spurs looking as if they have the capability to upset Man U and Chelsea. Later on in the year (starting June 8) everyone will have their eyes on Euro 2012 and wondering whether the Spaniards are still number one.

And for lovers of F1 car racing, the season kicks off with the Aussie grand prix on the 16th,17th and 18th of March. They will be happy to know former world champ, Kimi Raikkonen is driving again (Lotus) but most of the interest will be on whether anyone can compete with SebVettel – Hamilton, Alonso and Button would like to think so!

Yes there are other sports events, but for us here in Indonesia the above are considered the most popular and usually televised live in many establishments all over the country.

Nanti di tahun ini (mulai 8 Juni) semua orang menunggu Euro 2012 dan bertanya-tanya apakah orang Spanyol masih nomor satu.

Dan untuk pecinta balap mobil F1, Maret 16,17 dan 18, akan berlangsung Australian Grand Prix. Mereka akan senang mengetahui mantan juara dunia Kimi Räikkönen mengemudi lagi (Lotus) tetapi yang lebih menarik adalah; apakah ada yang bisa bersaing dengan Sebastian Vettel - Hamilton, Alonso dan Button!

Ya masih banyak event olahraga lainnya, tetapi bagi kami di sini di Indonesia, pertandingan di atas dianggap paling populer dan biasanya disiarkan langsung di banyak tempat di seluruh negeri.

Di Bali tempat yang popular untuk menyaksikan acara pertandingan di atas adalah Arena Pub & Restaurant yang ada di Sanur dan Kerobokan.

TransNusa has continued to improve the air transportation services in NTT.

Eff ective December 8, 2011, PT Independent Aviation TransNusa commenced Kupang - Makassar –Kupang fl ights on a three times per week basis on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

And eff ective December 15, 2011, the airline also commenced Kupang - Larantuka – Kupang fl ights on a four times per week basis operatingon Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturday and Sundays.

In addition to the new routes, Kupang – Ruteng – Kupang fl ights which were formerly fi ve times per week have been increased to daily fl ights depart 06.00 using Fokker 50 aircraft.

Opening new fl ight routes and increasing frequencies of existing fl ights is in answer to the high demand for the particular routes and the airline’s plan to focus on convenience,

TransNusa seakan tak henti melakukan terobosan-terobosan dalam peningkatan pelayanan transpotasi udara di NTT khususnya.

Seperti yang sudah diketahui bahwa baru saja Manajemen PT. TransNusa Aviation Mandiri membuka rute penerbangan Kupang – Makassar – Kupang yang efektif pada tanggal 8 Desember 2011, 3 X Seminggu; Senin, Kamis, & Sabtu. Dan pada tanggal 15 Desember 2011, rute penerbangan Kupang – Larantuka – Kupang eff ektif beroperasi kembali yaitu 4X Seminggu; Selasa, Kamis, Sabtu dan Minggu.

Bukan hanya itu saja, TransNusa juga menambah frekuensi penerbangan Kupang–Ruteng–Kupang yang awalnya 5x Seminggu kini menjadi setiap hari (berangkat jam 06.00) dengan menggunakan armada Fokker 50.

Dibukanya rute serta penambahan frekwensi penerbangan ini diharapkan dapat menjawab tingginya permintaan dari para pelanggan serta kenyamanan, kecepatan dan ketepatan waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk tiba di kota tujuan. Selain itu juga dapat memenuhi keinginan para pelanggan yang memiliki penerbangan lanjutan atau connecting fl ight seperti dari/ke Makassar, Denpasar, Surabaya bahkan ke Jakarta. Apalagi Flores Timur merupakan kabupaten yang sedang berkembang yang tentunya sangat membutuhkan layanan transportasi udara dalam meningkatkan pertumbuhan dan perkembangan iklim investasi di daerah tersebut.

Kami tetap berkomitmen meningkatkan pertumbuhan sarana transportasi udara di wilayah NTT, NTB, Bali dan Makassar sembari berharap dapat memaksimalkan pelayanan kami kepada semua pelanggan setia TransNusa baik dengan penambahan rute maupun penambahan frekuensi penerbangan di beberapa daerah dengan demikian diharapkan mobilisasi masyarakat khususnya di wilayah tersebut di atas dapat terlayani dengan baik dan kedepannya kami pun terus melakukan pembenahan diri serta melakukan terobosan-terobosan baru.
