Transport in our districtTransport in our district
(The 15th district of Budapest called Újpalota)
Our students in the office of thechief-engineer responsiblefor the transport system in our district
Mr Ferenc Práth,the chief-engineer at the local authority
A new transport concept is being put together these days
The steps of it:1. A schedule at the local authority with the
deadlines2. A call for a tender3. Choosing the engineering company4. They make a plan5. Starting of the check-ups with the
supervising authorities (local associations and authorities in Budapest)
6. Putting the development plan, the concept together (first version)7. It is put on the webpage of the local authority and they wait for the opinions, remarks of civil organisations8. Summerizing the different opinions (sometimes they are accepted, sometimes they aren’t)9. the body of the local authority officially accepts the development plan and it becomes a regulation (in October)
The content of the development plan
• The description of the actual state (problematic areas)
• The expected developments, investments and their needs (land, public transport…)
• The suggested developments in public transport, in roads, in pedestrian zones…
Problems in our district
• It is bordered by railway lines from two sides
A motorway (M3) divides it into two partsA motorway (M3) divides it into two parts

Other Problems:Other Problems:
There are few ringroads and wide roads coming out of the city
Consequences: a lot of traffic jams on them and too many heavy vehicles
Problems with public transport
• There is just one tram line in our district
• There are only 7 buslines
• We don’t have a connection with the underground lines at all (It was planned in the 1970s and it was promised last year with the building of the 4th underground line)
Urgent needs
• 8 kilometres of dirt road in the district (They must be bitumenized.)
• Roads in very bad conditions (Problem: all roads where there is public transport are maintained by the Budapest local authority but we suffer from the problems.)
Cycling
• There are two very short cycling routes coming from nowhere and going nowhere.
• We cannot expect any developments in the near future and maybe in the distant future either.
