Rationale• Social workers encounter victims of trauma in virtually

every setting in which they work• The knowledge base on trauma has grown exponentially

in recent years• Much of this is due to the growing knowledge on the

neurobiological effects of trauma• It is now clear that young children experiencing trauma

might experience life-altering and life-long changes • Many evidence-based treatments for trauma survivors

have been developed in the last few years

Criteria for Application• Must be moving into 2nd concentration year to apply• Application includes a personal statement addressing

clinical skills or potential• Must be accompanied by letter of reference from

professional social worker• Those accepted must complete online TF-CBT course

prior to first class

Components of TTGC• Students will take 12 credit hours of course work• Students will take 2 or 3 of the following courses (6 hours)

• SW531 Trauma Theory & Practice (required)• SW540 Beyond Combat: Military SW Practice• SW529 Disaster Management & Trauma-Informed Systems• SW540 Trauma Treatment

• Students will take a trauma-informed field internship (6 hrs)• Students will do two trauma-specific assignments in their

required concentration & selective courses• Must fit within the requirements of the course

• Students will complete 2 online seminars (1 each semester)

Goals• Produce social workers who

• Can go into different settings and work with traumatized clients• Understand the neurobiological effects of clients’ trauma• Can assess traumatized clients or systems within a larger

ecological perspective• Can assess traumatized clients based on their current

developmental stage and the stage at which the trauma occurred• Know TF-CBT • Know multiple other evidence-based treatments to draw upon

based on different types of trauma, ages, and types of presentations

• Understand trauma-informed systems and how to develop them
