OVERVIEW

Cancun is one of the main tourist destinations in Mexico and it is not hard to understand why. Located on the north-east coast of the Yucatán Peninsula in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo and bathed by the Caribbean Sea, Cancun is surrounded by some of the most beautiful beaches of the world. During the 70’s, after the first hotels were built, the city turned into an exclusive touristic destination. This paradise is divided into two very distinct areas: the hotel zone, an island connected to the mainland by two bridges and the downtown area full of restaurants, stores and spectacles.

Not to talk about the wonderful beaches with warm and crystalline water and soft white sands. And, of course, the famous mexican hospitality turns the place into an even more special destination. The Caribbean Sea is a lure for swimmers, surfers and divers.

A Visa is necessary to enter the city. However, there are two exceptions for this rule: for those who have a valid american Visa or for those that fill the ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) and show it at the check-in in the airport. Attention: not all airlines work with this system and the Visa will be necessary.

A great part of the hotels also have their own nightclubs, or at least a bar that stays open the whole night. The main options outside the hotels are Coco Bongo, Señor Frog’s, Basic, Dady’O, The City, Bulldog and Sweet Club.

Those who love the nature should visit the Xcaret Ecopark, where the native flora and fauna can be appreciated. You can enjoy not only that but also tunnels, underground rivers and caves.
