The capital of Portugal, Lisbon, is perhaps of the most beautiful cities in Western Europe largely due to its fabulous architecture. It is not as expensive as other cities in this part of the world and you surely can get value for

your money. It is a delight to explore the city and you can lay back and enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches with its azure waters and hordes of water activities, such as surfing and swimming.

ClimateThe city is a year round vacation destination, because it has a warm climate throughout the year. If you are looking to escape the harsh winters of North America and Europe, this city offers the ideal getaway. Summers can be hot and humid, and may not be too conducive for long hours of sightseeing, but winters are warm and pleasant and the perfect time to put on a good pair of walking shoes and explore the unique and distinctive neighborhoods of the city.

Things to Do in LisbonThere are so many things to do in Lisbon that visitors often do not know where to start from. Here are some tips that will get you start on a memorable vacation in Lisbon.

Beaches: The city is a beach paradise. It is perhaps the only capital city in Europe that is situated so close to pristine sandy beaches. Two of the most popular beaches are Guincho and Costa da Caparic where you can see stretches of sand for miles. These two beaches are famous with people who want to enjoy surfing. The areas around the beaches are renowned for their vibrant nightlife scenes.

Shopping: Walking through the cobblestone streets in the city is a pleasure and you can stop by at stores and check out their unique wares. One of the best places to indulge in some retail therapy is Rua Augusta, which is an open-air plaza with

  • hundreds of vendors, brand label stores and outdoor coffee shops. This is a pedestrian street and you will be able to enjoy budget and upscale shopping here.

Belem District: No visit to the city is complete without checking out the Belem District for its ancient architecture, beautiful gardens and awe-inspiring monuments. Be sure to visit the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, which is a monastery constructed in 1460. The Gothic and Renaissance architecture of the monastery will leave you spellbound. Another monument, albeit modern, that is worth checking is the Monument of Discoveries. This monument was inspired by the explorations conducted by Portugal in the 15th and 16th centuries. But the most well-known monument in this district is Belem Tower, which was constructed in the 16th century.
