Belem District: No visit to the city is complete without checking out the Belem District for its ancient architecture, beautiful gardens and awe-inspiring monuments. Be sure to visit the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, which is a monastery constructed in 1460. The Gothic and Renaissance architecture of the monastery will leave you spellbound. Another monument, albeit modern, that is worth checking is the Monument of Discoveries. This monument was inspired by the explorations conducted by Portugal in the 15th and 16th centuries. But the most well-known monument in this district is Belem Tower, which was constructed in the 16th century.
