Location

• St. Augustine is located on the northeastern coast of Florida.• The city’s location helped in its discovery and

development.• The waterfront location made the growth of the city

possible and created the ideal system for the city’s economy.

Landmarks• St. Augustine is

known for its many historic landmarks.

• The St. Augustine Lighthouse stands 165 ft. tall.

• The Castillo de San Marcos was built by the Spanish in the late 1600s.

• The Old Town is a great place to shop and a popular area for tourists.

Culture

• St. Augustine has a rich culture that revolves around tourism.

• People travel from all over to visit the country’s oldest city.

• A popular attraction that people have to visit is the Fountain of Youth.

• There are a lot of activities that take place at night in the city, and some events that will crowd the streets.

History

• St. Augustine’s history began August 28th 1565 when Spanish admiral Menendez arrived.

• The city was founded 42 years before the colony at Jamestown and 55 years before the Pilgrims arrived at Plymouth Rock.

• Throughout its time, the city has been under Spanish and British control.

• St. Augustine is the oldest permanent city in the country.

Influences

• St. Augustine has both British and Spanish influences because of its History.

• The city has even had trouble with pirates so they are a popular theme in the city.

• There are events where British soldiers will take over and march down the city streets.

• The city’s food is mostly seafood because of its location, but there are some British and Spanish influences on the food around the city.

Architecture

• Much like the local food the architecture based on t he city’s past. • Many of the city’s

structures are extremely old and reflect the past.• If you were to walk through

the city you would be able to pick out which buildings have Spanish or British design.

Hauntings

• St. Augustine is very famous for its hauntings.

• The city’s haunted history and common paranormal activities bring many people in to do their own investigating.

• “Ghost Tours” are popular tourist attractions that take place in the city during the night.

• Paranormal activity is extremely common in both the Castillo de San Marcos and the St. Augustine Lighthouse.

• Locations in St. Augustine were visited by the television show “Ghost Hunters.”
