Traveling Classroom in Guatemala Learn Spanish and get to know Guatemala with the Traveling Classroom! Daily private Spanish lessons during four weeks in four different places are combined with a large number of excursions. In three places you will stay with a local family, the other 9 nights are spend in a hotel at the coast and in the jungle. During this trip you will learn Spanish, experience the local indigenous culture and see Guatemala’s fascinating nature. You will visit a project where turtles are protected, you’ll learn the first steps of Salsa, and will get a shot of adrenaline during the climb to the summit of the volcano Pacaya, river rafting and descending on a Zipline at the canopy of the jungle. More relaxing social activities are added too; you’ll for instance go to a live band and see a movie in a hip lounge café in Antigua. The week in Monterrico will be ended by a camp-fire at the beach. This is just a part of the activities and don’t forget that you will be able to have a simple conversation in Spanish after this 4 week program! This trip visits the following places: Antigua: a picturesque small town, once the capital of Guatemala, with loads of relics of the colonial period. Panajachel: an Indian village at the fascinating lake ‘Atítlan’ surrounded by three volcanoes. Cobán: a less known village in the countryside and river rafting on the ‘Rio Cahabon’ near Lanquin. Monterrico: very laidback fishermen village at the Pacific coast. Note: This tour is also available for one, two or three weeks, always arriving during the weekend to start classes on Monday. Starting point depends on where the tour is at that moment.

Sunday: A city tour with our local representative, visiting points of interest in this colonial city Monday afternoon: Salsa dance classes 1 hour Tuesday afternoon: Visit of the ‘Popanoe museum’ and Salsa dance classes 1 hour Wednesday afternoon: Salsa dance classes 1 hour Wednesday evening: Movie in lounge café Thursday afternoon: Salsa dance classes 1 hour Friday afternoon: Climbing the Pacaya volcano Friday evening: visit a live band

Panajachel

Saturday: Arrival in Panajachel around 15.30, transportation to family Sunday morning: 8 am departure to Chichicastenango, guided tour of the market Monday afternoon: boot trip on the lake of ‘Atítlan’ and guided tour to Santiago de Atítlan Tuesday afternoon: No activity scheduled. Time to rest… Wednesday afternoon: Guided tour to cave ‘La cueva Maya de San Jorge de la Laguna’ Thursday afternoon: No activity scheduled. Time to rest… Friday afternoon: Excursion to the natural reserve and descend per zip line

Transfer to Cobán: Saturday 09.30 hours. Transfer via Antigua, with lunch time in Antigua (lunch at own costs).

Spanish classes: 16 hours of private classes: 4 hours of Spanish tuition from Monday till Thursday in the morning.

Accommodation: Saturday through Thursday in Coban: 5 nights of accommodation with local family in a basic, private room including 3 meals per day. Thursday through Sunday in Lanquin: 3 nights hotel accommodation in shared room, no meals included except the Mexican party on Saturday evening.

Activities:

Saturday: Arrival in Cobán, transportation to family

Sunday: The school organizes a visit to a local coffee plantation Monday afternoon: No activity scheduled. Time to rest… Tuesday afternoon: Visit an orchid farm with school staff Wednesday afternoon: No activity scheduled. Time to rest… Thursday afternoon: Transfer to Lanquín on a local ‘chicken bus’ Friday: Rafting on the river ‘Cahabon’. In case of low water: ‘hotdogging’ on the river Saturday: Visit ‘Semuc Champey’ natural pools and waterfalls Saturday evening: Mexican party at the hotel (meal inclusive, drinks at own cost) Sunday: Local transport: ‘chicken bus’ to Cobán.
