I’M GOING TO MELBOURNE FOR CHRISTMAS Are you thinking about getting away from the hassle of Christmas this year? Why not come with me (Paul) to Melbourne and around! When I say Melbourne, we’re staying at the Atura Dandenong, in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, not the city centre. By staying at Dandenong we can easily get to some of the great spots just out of Melbourne. For example, we spend one day in the Dandenong Ranges, including a trip on the Puffing Billy train. On another day we head down onto the Mornington Peninsula – a great area for exploring! The property we stay at, the Atura Hotel, is fabulous. The rooms are modern and very comfortable (luxurious, even), and the staff there are great too. This trip is going to be for just a small group, and we’ll be travelling in our smallest vehicle which takes just 20 people. This means we’ll have a great time and it will be easy to get to know each other. So if you would like to enjoy a hassle-free Christmas with a small group of friendly people, come along on this trip with me! We’ll be away for seven days, from the 22nd to the 28th of December . I’M GOING TO MELBOURNE FOR CHRISTMAS

Are you thinking about getting away from the hassle of Christmas this year?

We’ll be away for seven days, from the 22nd to the 28th of December.

MELBOURNE CUP DAY CORRECTIONOops! We managed to put the wrong date for our Melbourne Cup Day function in one of the spots in our recent Day Tour brochure.

Thanks to everyone who pointed this out to us. Yes, the correct date is the first Tuesday in November, which is the 5th and there are still a handful of seats remaining if you would like to come along.

We have a lot of fun at our Melbourne Cup Day function! There are lots of sweeps, a charity raffle, lucky seat prizes, fancy hat parade (with prizes), if your horse comes last you get a Freddo frog(!), and there’s even a complimentary glass of sparkling wine or soft drink on arrival. We watch the race on the big screen, and there’s a great

atmosphere. This year we enjoy the delightful views out over the McCracken golf course, as we are dining in their restaurant – a function held just for us!

Time and seats are definitely running out, so be quick!

It’s quickly coming to the end of the year, which means now is the time to book for one of our fabulous tours to Tasmania in February!

We have two highly complementary tours of Tasmania. Western Tasmania includes the beautiful northern coastline visiting Dove Lake (with Cradle Mountain as its backdrop) before continuing around the west coast and its large expanses of untouched wilderness!

From Strahan we cruise the famous Gordon River with its incredible reflections and fascinating history. We also travel on a very unique train – the West Coast Wilderness Railway – through some of the most gorgeous scenery in Tasmania. That’s really saying something in a state as beautiful as this! The tour finishes with a little time in Hobart and flies both ways, to and from Tasmania.

The other tour option is to explore from Hobart to Launceston taking the route along the east coast. We start with some time in and around Hobart, including a day to visit the incredible heritage of Port Arthur. On our way to Launceston we explore Richmond, with its delightful streetscape and gorgeous bridge – built by convicts, its Australia’s oldest stone arch bridge.

The east coast of Tasmania is well known for its stunning beauty. For example, Wineglass Bay in Freycinet National Park is world renowned and we explore this beautiful cove on a wonderful cruise. The small towns along the way are delightful: Bicheno, Swansea and St Helens are all gorgeous and charming. We also explore in and around Launceston, before catching the Spirit of Tasmania ferry to travel home.

These tours are also planned so they can be combined into one comprehensive tour of Tasmania, flying into Launceston and travelling home on the Spirit of Tasmania!

Both tours travel in February (please see back page for dates and prices), but it will be very important to book well before Christmas, otherwise we may not be able to get you a spot on the plane or ferry, or even accommodation!

Please call as soon as possible and we’ll forward the detailed itineraries to you.

REMINDER – WE’VE MIXED UP OUR DAY TOURSIf you are a regular traveller on our Day Tours, you are likely to notice that we have changed some days around during November and December!

In November, due to Melbourne Cup Day, Haywood and Gibson travellers who are used to travelling on the first Tuesday will find your day on the second Tuesday.

In December, there aren’t enough days before Christmas for all of our trips! So if you normally travel in the second week of the month, your day will be in the first week instead. And if you normally travel in the third or fourth week of the month, your days are in the second week instead.

Please accept our apologies for all of these changes, and if you are at all confused please give us a call, we are happy to talk you through it.

SEE THE STUNNING BLUE OF THE BLUE LAKE It’s your last chance to join one of our best, short stayput holidays! Late in November we travel to the lower south east, for three nights in Mount Gambier.

We plan this tour in late spring when the Blue Lake is at its most stunning blue! It’s inside the crater of a former volcano and is famous for its incredible colour!

We travel to Mount Gambier via the Coorong to our excellent accommodation, at the Silver Birch!

We have a guided tour right to the surface of the Blue Lake, pop into Victoria to the Glenelg River for a relaxing two-hour luncheon cruise, and explore the magnificent coastal scenery. We also visit the Lady Nelson Discovery Centre, the fascinating Nangwarry Forestry Museum and the Umpherston Sinkhole, a collapsed cave developed as a special ‘sunken garden’.

On the way back to Adelaide we travel through the vineyards of Coonawarra and Padthaway. The countryside is delightful!

We travel from November 25 to 28. So if you would like to join us to explore this beautiful part of our state, please call straight away – if you delay you’ll probably miss out! We would love to have you come along!

THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS – AWARD-WINNING COMMUNITY FESTIVAL!Loxton is a country town with a huge community spirit! That’s why it is able to put on an event like the Loxton Lights Festival wowing visitors year after year.

In fact, this Riverland festival is so good, it has won the SA Tourism Award for Best Event/Festival four times! And it’s so much more than just coloured lights.

It all started when one man did a small Christmas display with painted images and coloured lights. It was so well received that other residents joined in, and it has now grown to over 350 properties decorating their homes and gardens with lights and other displays.

It has been our pleasure to support the Loxton Lights Festival with tours for many years, and again this year we have an overnight trip staying at Loxton to take in the lights and displays. If you haven’t been before you really don’t know what you’re missing!

While in the Riverland, we also tour the beautiful Pines Historic House and Garden, visit a Christmas tree festival, call into Santa’s Cave and so much more!

This is the perfect overnight tour to get you in the Christmas Spirit. Call now for a detailed itinerary as we travel from December 7 to 8.

CONGRATULATIONSWe would like to congratulate our latest Boomer’s Club winner, Jean Gilbert! We hope you enjoy your special prize.

For everyone who travels on our December Day Tour we are donating $5 to the Hutt Street Centre. We are also offering to collect donations of food and other items from our customers!

The Hutt Street Centre assist homeless people in Adelaide to survive, and provide a path out of homelessness.

If you wish to donate, you may like to purchase one of the following items during your regular shopping, and bring it along on our December Day Tour.

Consider non-perishable items like self-raising flour, sugar, spay oil, tomato paste, tins of tuna, jam, honey, cups of noodles, laundry supplies, sunscreen, deodorant, and shaving cream.

We’ll collect everything and deliver it to the Hutt Street Centre, along with our donation.
