Co-Sponsors

Children’s Miracle Hospital is a national network of children’s hospitals. Key Clubs sponsor

The Eliminate Project

Kiwanis International and UNICEF have partnered together in the Eliminate Project. Their goal is to eliminate maternal and neonatal

tetanus (MNT) around the world. Tetanus is a terrible disease causing muscle spasms that interfere with breathing and lead to death. This deadly disease takes the lives of 160 newborns every day. MNT is

caused when the umbilical cord is cut with an unclean blade contaminated with tetanus spores found in soil. It causes painful

convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. MNT affects mothers and babies in 28 different countries in Africa, Asia, Europe,

and North America who have little access to health.

Maternal and neonatal tetanus is easily preventable. Just 3 doses of 60 cent immunizations will provide protection from MNT. Our goal is to

raise US$110 million by the end of 2015. Doing so will save the lives of 129 million mothers and newborns. So far we have raised about US$37

million dollars. Just one vaccination cost $1.80. That’s all it takes to save a life. We need everyone’s help to eliminate maternal and neonatal

tetanus.

Membership Update Center

1. Form an Eliminate committee. Recruit club members who can be tasked with

coming up with fundraising ideas, planning events, and promoting them.

Assign people to different tasks. The club President should appoint a Chair.

2. Plans projects and the details. Pick a time, date, and place for each of your

events. Reserve locations, plan on entertainment or incentives, and find ways to cover the costs of the events. 3. Get others onboard. Promote your

projects by involving all members of your club, school, community, and nearby K-

Family clubs. The Eliminate Project’s website has great resources to promote

your event such as banners, logos, brochures, and more.

4. Educate people. At the beginning of your events or fundraisers, educate

participants about the Eliminate Project. This will motivate attendees or

participants what their donation will help achieve.

5. Celebrate success. At the end of your fundraisers, announce the total amount raised and how many lives you saved.

Eliminate Fundraiser projects can be successful if you follow six different

steps!

First of all, DLC is not just some small conference. It embodies not just a few clubs, but almost all of the clubs from the mighty Missouri-Arkansas district (nearly 375 students every year). These are the five

main reasons you should attend DLC:

• To Making Connections: Even in the time span of three days, you would be surprised by the number of connections you will make with the other attendees of DLC. Numerous people have come into this conference not knowing anyone outside of their home club and have left with new friendships that will last a lifetime. These friendships can also come in handy in the future when say your club is attempting to do an interclub event. If you find out that they are having trouble contacting a club and you are friends with a person from that other club, then you have a great connection with that other club!

• To Learn New Ways to Serve: During DLC, there are many forums that teach different ways to contribute towards different organizations and your community. These forums might be about different ways to fundraise or even just information on ways to interact with the other K-Family organizations (Action Club, Circle K, Kiwanis, etc.).

• To Participate in Contests: There are many fun contests attendees can participate in at DLC. These contests include an oratory competition, talent competition, scrapbook competition, poster completion, and a video competition. These contests are a great way to showcase your individual club’s talent as well as add to your club’s reputation.

• To Get to Know Your Executive and District Board: We, the people on the district and executive board, will also be attending DLC. During this time we will try to get to know as many of the attendees as we can. We want to get to know you guys! Key club runs as a much more efficient machine when club members have some knowledge of the executive/district board. We love to hear all of your ideas as well as stories from the past year of service!
