Introduction Part-time Medical Director Dr. Paula Jo Colescott has
participated in multiple activities outside of work. One such activity in which Dr. Paula Jo Colescott has been involved was The Genesis Process, a faith-based 12-step addiction recovery program where she served as a facilitator.
Used primarily to treat alcohol and drug addiction, The Genesis Process can be adapted to address virtually any other unhealthy dependency, including to food, sex, and work. Highly trained facilitators and counselors implement The Genesis Process in various settings, including churches and prisons, to explore the underlying psychological issues and conflicts that drive self-destructive behaviors rather than just their symptoms.

The Genesis Process People with addictions who participate in The
Genesis Process discover how neurochemical factors, as well as anxiety and fear, catalyze addictions. Once individuals gain a better understanding of their addiction, they can learn techniques for fighting and recovering from it. People who participate learn how periods of sobriety do not necessarily equate with a full recovery, which can only be achieved after the root causes of the addiction have been identified and addressed.
