▪ Aim: Remove inorganic contaminants and investigate organic contaminants removal

▪ Experiment designs: pHs 10.5, 11, 11.5 and 12

• UV 254

• Total Fluorescence

SEC-OCD results:

pHs: 10.5, 11, 11.5 and 12

EEM results

pHs: 10.5, 11, 11.5 and 12

▪ Using FBCR, calcium, magnesium and silica are being removed 97%, 99.9% and 40%, respectively.

▪ SEC-OCD and silica removal data results demonstrates MgO(SiO2)x·(H2O)x formation and precipitation.

▪ TOC results shows 20-25% organic contaminant removal.

▪ EEM results shows Humic and Fulvicacid-like matter removal.

▪ An extra pretreatment step will be added before introducing the FBCR effluent to the membrane treatment since FBCR achieved less organic removal than anticipated.

▪ UF and coagulation/ flocculation with ferric chloride experiments are optimized and samples are being analyzed in order to choose the best treatment train modification.

▪ UF permeate will be collected from Prof. Achilli’s pilot plant.
