Background on the song
“OMG” is a hip hop/R&B song by American recording artist Usher. OMG also
features will.i.am who also produced and
wrote the song, a member of pop group
Black Eyed Peas who are also associated
with the same genre as Usher. It was
released on the 22nd March 2010 from the
sixth studio album by Usher, “Raymond v.
Raymond” "OMG" topped charts in
Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, the
United Kingdom and the United States
and the video was directed by Anthony
Mandler, who also shot videos for similar
artists Drake, Rihanna and Jay-Z.
Anthony Mandler said this about the
concept and meaning behind the
cinematography: "The concept was to
create a world where we put Usher in a
space where he does what I think he does
better than anyone else in the world,
which is perform at a level and magnitude
of a superstar and take us, the viewer,
whether audible or visually, on a journey,
not a ride.
The Music Video
Our video is going to be performed in a nightclub called The Showroom which is
based in Hartlepool, and based from previous experiences, we are aware that
they have lights and the atmosphere needed for a video of this caliber. Sean
McNicholas will be the young male dancing in our video as we are aware of his
talent in dancing, which will give the effect of a stereotypical R&B video. He has

his own choreography planned and practiced, and we are also going to include a
main female who will follow his every move in an attempt to win him over.
Costume – Smart Casual is the attire we are going to use in the video, as the
video will be set in a nightclub, therefore the audience would expect the artist to
be dressed relatively smart. Our idea of the smart casual look comes from
various videos such as Jason Derulo’s
“Ridin’ Solo” and Ne-Yo in “Beautiful
Monster”. We have taken inspiration from
these artists and videos because they are
of the same genre and background. Along
with the idea of smart casual, we also will
be changing costumes for different scenes
throughout the video. The females in the
video will be the centre of the male gaze,
so they will be wearing revealing clothing
to attract the male audience.
Although we are doing an R&B genre, the dancing and choreography will be that
of moves performed by Michael Jackson in the video for “Rock My World” which
is smooth and demanding.

Below is an example of shots we are going to use in conjunction with the music and lyrics:
“Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh” will consist of both a change in shot and lighting effects, which will attract the audience and also give the video a professional vibe.
“I fell in love with shawty when I seen her on the dancefloor” will consist of medium and long shots of the male dancing, whilst the main female is chasing him, trying to do better.
Throughout the chorus the second time round, the male dancer will be dancing with a chair, which is then taken off him by the female who tries to do better.
The opening of the song will be set in a studio with a shadow effect with the male dancer behind, which we will cut to every so often within the video.
We had many speculative ideas of where to film, which consisted of wide open spaces with an electrical supply to include lighting effects such as strobes and spot-lights such as:
An old warehouse which we could rent
Nightclubs in Hartlepool such as Shades, The Showroom and Yates which already include many of the aspects which we would need, including extras.
A dance studio such as Val Armstrongs Performing Academy or Debbie Barrass Dance Academy.
Our set won’t be complicated in terms of the background or effects, but we would obviously need permission from the owners of such places to film and use their equipment.
