Treatment Hair Color Line from abril et nature, is a complete colour treatment, to provide colour and to protect the dyed or bleached hair, which builds its action on a latest generation permanent dye, with very intense colours; and on conditioning and emollient active ingredients, specially developed to protect the colour and shine of dyed hair.

Treatment Hair Color from abril et nature is a 100% permanent (or oxidation) dye. Permanent hair colouring occurs in the cortex, the inside layer of the hair shaft.

To fully understand hair dye, it is important to be very aware of in which part of the hair fibre this colour generation occurs.

The hair fibre is made up of three layers, from the inside out: medulla, cortex and cuticle.

The cortex is middle and largest layer of the hair shaft. The cuticle, the shingle-like outer layer, is make by overlapping keratin scales. It forms several layers of thickness around the cortex. It is made up of sheets of hardened keratin layered one on top of the other, like tiles on a roof. It is interesting to note that melanin particles are found in the cortex, which is the natural pigment that gives colour to un-dyed hair.

Permanent hair colouring occurs also in the cortex. Therefore, in order to reach the cortex, the colour particles must pass through the cuticle. The active ingredients in the powdered bleaching, also must pass

through the cuticle to the cortex, where they are going to destruct melanin particles during the hair bleaching process.

Colouring hair, the dying process, is one of the most interesting cosmetic hair treatments. It is a colour transformation process, which beings as soon as we mix the dye with the oxidant in the bowl, and ends inside the hair fibre cortex.

We are going to explain this process in the hair dye section. It is important to keep in mind that dyed or bleached hair needs special cares with the aim of: ensure the optimal characteristics of the hair fibre which have been treated by the hair dye: taking care on its keratin structure, enhance the intensity and shine achieved by the dye , protect colour from the damaging effects which destroy it, causing a loss of colour and shine.

With the objective of cover this need to , to provide colour and to protect the dyed or bleached hair abril et nature I+D+I Department has developed Treatment Hair Color line, based on a latest generation hair dye, with very intense colours; and on conditioning and emollient active ingredients, specially developed to protect the colour and shine of dyed hair.

Description of Treatment Hair Color System from abril et nature

Treatment Hair Color line is make by three different sub-lines, “plus” four individual products: • Treatment Hair Color System (professional permanent hair dye) • Oxydant line (4, 10, 20, 30 and 40 VOL), complementing permanent hair dye. • Color Line (cosmetic products to protect dyed hair) • Maxiblanc (compact powdered bleaching agent) • And three products complementing the previous lines: • Protect Oil (oil to protect the scalp) • Shampoo Silver (shampoo which neutralises the yellowish reflections) • Platinum (instant mask which neutralises the yellowish reflections)

Next, we are going to explain each treatment line, its effects, the method of use, and the method to combine them in order to obtain the best colour results and hair care.

Permanent dye (oxidation) versus semi-permanent dye (direct colour)

Before moving onto information about permanent or oxidation dyes, it is vital to clearly dis- tinguish them from semi-permanent or direct colour dyes. The application method for each type of dye is different and above all, the greatest difference is in the end result.

Semi-permanent dye (direct colour) contains direct pigments or colourants that already show their final colour without needing to be mixed with an oxidant. Permanent (oxidation) dye has no direct colourants: it contains a mixture of dye precursors. These dye precursors are or- ganic molecules which do not in themselves possess the definitive colour.

It is only upon mixing the dye with the oxidant that these precursors oxidise and

pair up, giving rise to the final colour on the hair.

Therefore, If when opening the tube of dye the cream is the same colour as the end colour to be achieved on the hair (e.g. red), it is a semi-permanent or direct colour dye. However, if the cream is a weak, undefined colour (beige, greyish, pinkish, clear) and therefore is not the end colour to be produce on the hair, it is a permanent or oxidation dye.

Why do permanent or oxidation dyes last longer than direct or semi-permanent dyes?The answer to this question lies in the different chemical characteristics of direct dye and dye precursors and in the different processes which take place on the hair fibre with each type of colouring. We will now explain the process which takes place with each type of dye and justify the different visual results as well as the differences in final colour durability. By using this diagram, we represent the cuticle and cortex in hair shaft. The angular areas represent the “gaps“ in the cuticle scales which the colourants and pigments must penetrate to reach the cortex, where colouring occurs.

Process which takes place on hair shaft during the application of a semi-permanent or direct dye:There are two different types of direct dyes, although the end result of each type is quite similar: temporary colour and semi-permanent colour. Both provide direct colour, without needing to be mixed with an oxidant. The difference is basically in which part of the hair fibre the dye settles and therefore, which part of the hair is coloured.

TEMPORARY DYES have very large molecules. Given their larger size, it is impossible for them to pass through the cuticle gaps in order to reach the cortex. Therefore, they become lightly “at- tached“ to the surface of the hair cuticle. However, since they remain on the external part of the hair, they become increasing dislodged by washing, leading to a progressive loss of colour (from 1 to 8 washes).

SEMI-PERMANENT DYES are smaller sized molecules. They can pass through the cuticle gaps in order to reach the cortex. However, they come just as easily as they go and therefore are also dislodged by washing (from 6 to 8 washes).

Process which takes place on hair shaft during the application of a permanent dye (oxidation dye):

Oxidation dyes are made from a base cream containing dye precursors and an alkaline agent (ammonia or amine). When the dye is mixed with the oxidant, the oxygenated water oxidises the dye precursors. When oxidised, these precursors pair up and are chemically bonded together. It is these pairs which possess the final colour that will be seen on the hair.

Before oxidation, the dye modules are small enough to penetrate the cuticle gaps in order to reach the cortex. It is inside the cortex where oxidation takes place. During

oxidation and production of the final colour the molecules “pair up”, increasing in size. Due to their increased size they are no longer able to leave the cortex and remain trapped inside. This explains the permanent nature of oxidation dyes.

Some brands introduce direct, temporary or semi-permanent dyes into the formulas of their permanent or oxidation dyes. The result of using this type of mixed dye is that an intense, brilliant colour really is achieved, at first. However, after washing, it occurs a loss of original colour and shine of the dyed hair.

In light of this, in its Treatment Hair Color line of permanent dyes, abril et nature only uses oxidation or permanent dyes in the formulas for all its colours, and does not mix them with direct or semi-permanent dyes. This is easily proven by seeing how in any of its colours, the cream inside the tube is not the same colour as the definitive colour, which develops when mixed with the oxidant. This type of formulation has been chosen to ensure durability of the initial colour.

Dye precursors: abril et nature only use the highest quality commercially available precursors, and the concentration of them inside the dye is high in order to guarantee a good coverage of colour.

Thickener or texturiser: this component will give the mixture in the bowl (dye + oxidant) the texture and thickness required for comfortable and effective application. The abril et nature Treat- ment Hair Color line uses a flexible thickener. It facilitates the dye-oxidant mixing process. Its flexible texture helps to ensure an optimal distribution over the hair, guaranteeing that the desired area is fully covered. It also hydrates the hair, collaborating in the end result of conditioning and softness after colouring.

Positively charged conditioners: not all dyes use conditioning ingredients in their formulas. Only those of exceptional quality. The abril et nature Treatment Hair Color line uses positively charged conditioners similar to those in its Energic Treatment line.

The surface of damaged hair is negatively charged, due to breakage of its Keratin bonds. This negative charge (or static elec tricity) in the hair causes it to frizz, tangle and have an unhealthy appearance. These positive conditioners neutralise the negative charges, eliminating the problem of static electricity, frizz and tangles and smooth down the surface of the hair fibre.

Therefore, the hair is cared for whilst being dyed.

Hydrating oils: the role of hydrating oils within a dye is diverse. They protect both the scalp and hair during the dying process. Without these oils, the dye would be very aggressive. They condi- tion and soften the hair. The abril et nature Treatment Hair Color line uses very nourishing oils resulting in exceptionally glossy hair after colouring.

the dye is applied, structure of keratin fibre could be slightly damaged. In order to prevent this, the abril et nature Treatment Hair Color line is enriched with a mixture of keratin, hydrolysed collagen and wheat protein which reform and reinforce hair fibre.

Anti-irritant agent: Due to its high pH, all hair dyes can cause irritation, especially in people with a sensitive scalp. This is why it is important that the formula includes a component which reduces this potential irritation. The abril et nature Treatment Hair Color line uses a chamomile deriva- tive for this purpose.

The previously cited components define the high quality of abril et nature Treatment Hair Color formula. Up until now, we have see the composition of a high quality dye. One step ahead in safety:elimination of p-Phenylenediamine (PPD).We all know that some people are allergic to oxidation dyes and colourants in general and it is widely known that some dyes have a greater capacity than others to provoke allergies. The “famous” p-Phenylenediamine (PPD) is one of these dyes with a greater allergy record. However, this pigment is fully endorsed by health authorities for use in hair dye production, although it is true that these same authorities also recommend it be replaced by other ingredients. Since its use is totally legal, many dye manufacturers continue using it in their formulas since it is a relative cheap ingredient of which “a little goes a long way” in terms of the colour produced.

One step ahead in covering grey hairs: Traditionally, hair dyes contain a cuticle softening component to improve coverage of grey hairs (especially tough and thick). They are often thiogly- colic acid derivatives and characteristically smell of sulphur or urea. Unfortunately, they are very aggressive on the hair fibre. In light of this, the abril et nature Treatment Hair Color line uses a hair conditioner which studies have revealed not only conditions the hair but also improves dye precursor penetration inside the cortex, thereby improving the coverage of grey hairs.

One step ahead in lasting colour and shine: sealing the cuticle: As we have already seen, colouring hair means that the cuticle scales must be opened to allow the dye precursors to penetrate inside the cortex. After the hair is coloured, when removing the dye and washing the hair these scales close. However, this “closure” is often not properly com- pleted, especially in hair

which has been dyed a lot or has a naturally unsmooth surface.

This cuticle “closure” anomaly has two very obvious and harmful effects: • Since the dye molecules, are quite large, if they find a wide gap in the cuticle, they canescape, reducing the duration of the dye.• The surface of the hair fibre will not be smooth , or shiny and the hair will tend to tangle and frizz. Therefore, the end colour will not “shine” through the hair.

The abril et nature Treatment Hair Color has developed an innovative system for sealing the cuticle, and has incorporated it inside the dye formula. Therefore, hair dye, after providing colour to the hair cortex, seal the cuticle scales, preventing any colour molecules from escaping.

The abril et nature dye contains a monomer substance that polymerises after oxidation of the dye, forming a transparent, sealing film over the hair fibre. This seal, increases colour durability by preventing the colour particles

from “escaping”, smoothes the hair fibre, increases shine and prevents frizz.

A polymer is a large chain made up of individual particles called monomers. The polymerisation process is the formation of this chain from the individual particles.

It is easy to see how important it is that this cuticle sealing polymer is formed after the dye precursors have penetrated the cortex. If it is formed before penetration, or if the polymer was already intact in the tube of dye, it would stop the pigments from passing through the cuticle. The polymer must form after colouring, never before.

The seal after dying technique represents a “step ahead” and a very important additional benefit in the abril et nature Treatment Hair Color line.

COSMETIC PRODUCTS TO PROTECT DYED HAIR

A highly effective treatment for protecting the hair’s colour and shine. This treatment consist of:

• Bain Shampoo Color• Instant Mask Color

Color line treatment products are defined by:

- the micro-suspension of droplets of moisturizing emollient oils in shampoo formula, combined with a UV filter, in order to enhance colour retention and increase the hair shine.- the positively charged (cationic) conditioning ingredients which strongly adhere to the hair’s negatively charged surface.- its high concentration in hydrolyzed keratin, and hydrolyzed wheat protein. These proteins help to strengthen the hair fibre, and protect it against deterioration, improving its

surface and preventing structural losses. The end result is that the molecules of dye remain on the cortex and cuticle.- its concentration in Babassu Oil (Orbignya Oleifera (Babassu) Seed Oil): This oil is ex- tracted from the seeds of the Amazonian Babassu palm tree. It possesses excellent skin and hair softening properties and that is why it is known in the cosmetic industry as the ‘oil against dryness’. Because of its melting texture, it makes a protective film on the hair surface, improving the long lasting colour in a natural way.

This shampoo is a prior treatment product to introduce Instant Mask Color.Apply Instant Mask Color, on wet hair (dried with a towel). Slightly massage over hair for a best result and rinse-off. This a rinse-off mask giving a maximum restoring power to dyed hair.

FREQUENCY OF USE

abril et nature recommends to our hair colour specialist customers its use when rinsing out the dye. And the use by customers at home, for even longer lasting intensity and shine. It is also possible for the cus- tomer at home, to combine this treatment with other products from abril et nature lines.

Method of use:

PROTECT OIL(oil to protect the scalp)

For what type of need has been developed this product?This oil has been developed to be used mixed with the hair dye Treatment Hair Color Sysmtem from abril et nature, with the aim to prevent possible irritations process in the cases of customers with a sensitive scalp.

Benefit from this product:It is based on olive and argan oils. Restores and moisturizes the skin. Includes a component, de- rivative from chamomile, which reduces potential irritations and discomforts on sensitive skins.

Result: Avoids irritations, discomforts and itches on sensitive skins, during the hair dyeing.

Method of use: Mix a part of Protect Oil with Treatment Hair Color in the bowl, when hair dye is prepared. We recommend 10gr of protect oil for 60 gr of dye. It can be also applied on to the skin, outline the scalp, to prevent discomforts and stains.

MAXIBLANC(compact powdered bleaching agent)

For what type of need has been developed this product?Powdered bleaching agent, developed to obtain a superior lightening action, up to 7 tones (levels).

Benefit from this product:

• Based on new active ingredients, stimulating rinsing, fast releasing the oxygen, accelerating the hair bleaching process.• Contains a moisturizing oil, added in the powder, that protects hair during the bleaching process.• Versatile: developed for all rinse techniques.• Thermal protection against the heat produced during the bleaching process.• Strengthen shine on bleached hair. Luminous bleached hair is achieved.

AFTER THE BLEACHING TREATMENT, WE RECOMMEND TO USE CELL INNOVE TREATMENT LINE FROM STEM CELLS TREATMENT abril et nature.

All bleaching treatments are potentially unhealthy and aggressive for the hair. They cause a cer- tain degree of disorder within the hair keratin fibre. These defects take place as much as in the cuticle, as in a internal level, in the cortex. Therefore, it is very important, and we must insist on: after these technical action, it is so important to regenerate the hair, from inside the fibre, and not only by an external improvement treatment.

Method of use: Place the required amount in a non-metal container, keeping the following proportions: 1 part Maxiblanc bleaching powder with two parts of abril et nature Oxydant. Mix until mixture is smooth and creamy. Apply to hair. For fine hair and lighter techniques, use Oxydant 20 VOL. For thick hair or darker shades, use Oxydant 30 VOL or 40 VOL.Developing time is 20 to 35 minutes.Rinse with water and wash hair.

In the cases of customers with a sensitive scalp, who suffers irritations, discomforts and itches during the hair bleaching treatment, we also recommend the use of Protect Oil from abril et nature (oil to protect the scalp). It can be applied directly on the scalp and outline, or can be mixed with the bleaching powder, in the bowl.

For what type of need have been developed these products? These are two specific products developed to neutralise the yellowish reflections that occur in bleached hair, blond hair, highlight hair or grey hair.

Shampoo Silver and Matizador are defined by:A suitable percentage of violet pigment, which neutralises the yellowish reflections And as regards of the shampoo and mask basis, it ought to be outlined:

- The micro-suspension of droplets of moisturizing emollient oils in shampoo formula, which are deposited onto the hair surface when applying and rinsing out the shampoo. - The positively charged (cationic) conditioning ingredients which strongly adhere to the hair’s negatively charged surface.

- Its high concentration in hydrolyzed keratin, containing protein pieces of various sizes: a part of them, large enough to remain deposited on the cuticle surface; and other part of them, little enough to penetrate through the cuticle, to inside the cortex.

The fibre is internally restored, by fixing up pieces of proteins with a structure very similar to those of natural hair keratin. The strength, elasticity and resistance against breakage of the hair fibre are recover. - It restores the damage in the external keratin structure by means of keratin pieces large enough to remain deposited on the cuticle surface, closing up its flakes and restoring the damaged pieces. - It neutralises the negative charges of the damaged keratin fibre, giving the hair fibre a boost of positive energy and avoiding it to frizz.

- It recovers the natural hair lubrication, by means of micro-droplets of natural plant nourishing oils, very similar to the own scalp lipids.

Moisturizing emollient oils and positively charged (cationic) conditioning ingredients provided with these line, have a high conditioning power and are specially suitable for thick, frizzy and very dry hair.

Result:Yellowish reflections that occur in bleached hair, blond hair, highlight hair or grey hair are neutralised and masked. It restores the keratin structure of hair. A regenerated and hydrated hair fibre is obtained, with a silky touch and a healthy appearance.

Shampoo Silver method of use:Wash hair with Bain Shampoo Silver, as usual. Leave it to act for some minutes and rinse. Dry with a towel. This shampoo is washing treatment product for bleached hair, blond hair, highlight hair or grey hair, giving them a light violet shade, which neutralises (mask) the yellowish reflections.

Shampoo Silver frequency of use: Whenever we require to neutralise (mask) a yellowish reflection on some of the mentioned hair types.

Platinum method of use:This rinse-off mask has been developed to be used immediately after the technical bleach treatment or technical highlight. Wash hair, after the technical treatment, as usual. Apply a little amount of rinse-off mask Matizador, on wet hair. Slightly massage over hair for a best result. Leave it to act for some minutes and rinse-off. This a rinse-off mask giving a maximum restoring power to bleached hair, and besides, effectively neutralises the yellowish reflections.

Platinum frequency of use: Immediately after a technical bleach treatment or technical highlight, whenever we require to neutralise a yellowish reflection, and to strengthen the lightening action obtained.

Treatment Hair Color abril et nature

Traditional rejuvenating treatments

A poor lasting colour because the cuticle is not sealed or because a low pigment quality.

Presence of p-phenylenediamine (PPD) in the formula: a greater allergy potential. Not suitable treatment products for protecting the hair’s colour and shine: Active ingredients of chemical type, very different to the natural substances of hair. Only the external appearance of cuticle is improved

TREATMENT HAIR COLOR abril et nature Is a hair dye developed to provide a complete coverage with the 84 shades in the chart. Because of its technical characteristics, in order to obtain the complete coverage, it is not required to blend the shades in the chart. All the colours can be directly applied, without being mixed. In the event that we would like to apply a very intense colour on a very light grey hair, we will let a developing time of 45 minutes, in order to guarantee the complete pigment penetration inside the cortex.

Because of the high concentration of pigment inside the dye, and if we don’t completely know the shades, it is no advised to use a blend of colours. Due to the high pigment concentration, insuitable blends could give distorted colours, different from the result we would like to obtain.

100% PERMANENT COLOURTESTED UNDER DERMATOLOGICAL

Nourishing the hair with natural plant oilsAcompañando a la línea Treatment Hair Color System tenemos la línea Oxydant (4, 10, 20, 30 y 40 VOL).

All the shades in the chart can be used with the different Oxydants, depending on the desired result.

Revelador Oxydant 4 VOL 1,2%: a superficial dye bath is achieved, which will progressive disappear with washes; no visible “dye mark” as the hair grows out.

Oxydant 10 VOL 3%: a dye bath is achieved, more permanent than the previous. In this case a slight “dye mark” will be visible with hair re-growth.

Oxydant 20 VOL 6%: a permanent dye is achieved, in 30 minutes, with a highest colur intensity, 100% coverage of grey hair, and long lasting colour.

Oxydant 30 VOL 9%: is advised to be used in dark hair with grey hair, to “bring-up” the natural hair colour level to the grey hair level. It is also advised to obtain a more intense shade in copper, red, burgundy and violet tones.

Oxydant 40 VOL 12%: is advised to be used with lighteners and super lighteners shades. It is also advised to obtain a highest intense shade in copper, red, burgundy and violet tones.

Mix equal parts of Treatment Hair Colour and Oxydant abril et nature 1:1 (60gr dye + 60 gr oxydant), for all tones, except in the following cases:

- If we would like to achieve translucent colours, with a lighter colour coverage, we will mix the dye with oxydant (developer) in a 1:1,5 ratio (60gr dye + 90 gr oxydant). This application method is not advised if there is grey hair.

Oxydant line consist of 5 different developers, with different level of hydrogen peroxide (volumes). They contain the hydrogen peroxide which is necessary to oxidise the dye precusors. So, these produce the final colour inside the cortex. But it has a second function which is only visible in lighter shades and above all in lighteners and super-lighteners: it destroys melanin particles, lightening the natural colour of the hair.

Oxydant products are cream emulsions containing hydrating and emollient oils and hydrogen peroxide (oxydant active ingredient). Oxydant line offers to the professional colourist, 5 different levels of hydrogen peroxide (volumes).

Colour 900S is special, since it doesn’t contain any colorant. Thus we can perform a shine bath with a medium lightening effect.

We can apply colour 900S on hair with wear away highlights: in this case, we will apply it on the hair, avoiding the root, with Oxydant 4 vol 1,2% in a 1:1 ratio (60gr dye + 60 gr oxydant).

Note: in the case we perform a root bleaching, in order to respect the scalp, we will hid the yellowish with the mask PLATINUM abril et nature. It consists in a conditioning mask and it doesn’t cause nor irritation, nor itching to the sensitive scalp (sensitive scalp because the previous bleaching treatment).

Colour 12.2 is an special super lightener colour, since it doesn’t contain any colorant. For this reason we can perform a shine bath with a high lightening effect. We can apply it with a ratio of Oxydant up to 1 + 2 (dye + Oxydant) in order to get a natural super lightener shade.

We can also perform a super lightener shade, by mixing 12.2 with the dye containing the shade which we like to get. For example: The blend 12.2 + Oxydant (1:2) + 10 gr of colour 5.60: an extra light rosy shade is achieved. The blend 12.2 + Oxydant (1:2) + 20 gr og colour 7.26: an extra light reddish iridescent (violet) shade is achieved.

In order to match bleached hair and highlights (hiding yellowish) we suggest to use the next colour dyes, depending on the shade which we will like to obtain:• Mink: hazel shade

An intense bath of shine will be achieved. We can also use 900S on wear away dyed hair, on dull natural hair and on blonde hair: in any case, we will obtain an intense shine and brightness

At the extent that we will increase the Oxydant volumes, we will achieve a greater lightening power. Using Oxydant 10 vol 3%, we will achieve a gentle lightening effect, keeping the hair’s natural colour, because of Colour 900S doesn’t contain any colorant. It only contains the dye base cream, its nourishing and shine oils. In the case that we would like a greater lightening power, we will apply the super lightener colour 12.2.

Colour 900S also allows us to achieve a colour of which we don’t have, raising from a lower level colour: 60gr dye lower level colour + 30 gr 900S.
