Treatment sheet Keane – Sea Fog Concept The song that I have chosen for the music video has a slow tempo rhythm. It sounds very gentle and soft and that will lead to long shots and slow movements. The song speaks about sadness and to quote from the lyrics ‘sorrow’, based on bad times that can appear out of nowhere the song is based upon the sea fog and mist. Overall the song has one meaning and one feeling that is visible throughout. Seadog suggests an uncertainty and unpredictability about life, I think that is why the grey skies are used to show that life is not just good or bad that they are sometimes different shades for grey in between that you might not see coming. The way I use the use of camera angles, lighting, locations will be key in this video to making the video look as the song suggests and allowing the song to play out within it Narrative/performance The meaning behind the song is a sense that life can be rolled a long, that they may be a time where you are not in control or it does not feel like you are in control of your life, that things can change and things can come up that alter the direction or speed f your life and I think that it is this that the sound is talking about. The lyrics are interesting and really express the meaning of the song by lines like ‘ missed my turn in the road’ suggests that a person has missed a chance or chosen the wrong way and ‘can anyone fly into these grey skies’ suggests that that person wants to get away to somewhere he is meant to be’. My narrative in the song for my music video will be that ‘jack’ the lead singer in the performance will play the lead actor in the story part. He will be really down and upset after his wife has gone. (I will not be clear what has happened to her yet) they will be shots linking to the lyrics in the song such as the ‘magpie’s’ and ‘flying in to these grey skies’ and miss my turn in the road’ – these will all directly relate.

Treatment sheet Keane – Sea Fog

Concept The song that I have chosen for the music video has a slow tempo rhythm. The way I use the use of camera angles, lighting, locations will be key in this video to making the video look as the song suggests and allowing the song to play out within it

Narrative/performance The meaning behind the song is a sense that life can be rolled a long, that they may be a time where you are not in control or it does not feel like you are in control of your life, that things can change and things can come up that alter the direction or speed f your life and I think that it is this that the sound is talking about.

Locations that I will use are

- House (window to see birds) – (for the sun bleeding in) - Field – drone images (can anyone fly in to these grey sky’s) - Street at night – street light- on bike (miss my turn in the dark)

- Forest (I’ve strayed too far from the road)

- Beach – (I wont fight though the rising tide) water shots - Theatre – performance area – chorus parts – projection and lights

Lighting The song displays emotion through its use of lighting in the video. They have linked the meaning of the song to the use of setting and lighting. Most of the video is mainly lit by natural daylight. In my music video I will try and represent the song though other means as well such as street light, theatre lights and projection these I believe will provide a greater understanding to the song as I will try to create beams and spots to show contrast to the clouds and sun light. The use of haze and smoke machines will bring out the lighting in the air to show great and impressive Ariel effects. Projection will play a key part of the performance of this song, linking the narrative to the performance area by using clouds and rain videos on a large screen behind on the stage. The area for performance will be the theatre. I will fill the surrounding floor area with a red fill show the emotion of the song as well as relating to the meaning. The main singer on the piano will be in the centre of the performance area and in the centre of the projection screen and he will be illuminated by 4 spots coming from each corner, and the surrounding perimeter will be covered in fernel lighting fixtures with will produce many beans all facing to the centre of the room which will add with the feeling and will make the room look different and also more intimate.

Camera Their will be many camera shots involved in this music video mainly to represent the lyrics and what is going on with in the song. There will be a wide range of different

angles and elements used such as a bird’s eye view for the performance area. There will be a range of panning shots for the different places that filming is taking place. There will also be a tracking shot for the person going down the street on the bike at night also for that scene there will be a dolly out shot where the bike follows the camera behind showing the person riding in a mid/long shot. When he comes past a joining road and misses it and that’s the road that his girlfriend is on and he passes it this relates to the lyrics at the time when it says ‘I missed my turn, In the dark I hear your voice’ because he has missed seeing his girlfriend but does hear here voice but he does not turn down the road and continues on the road he is on. For this there will be a mid shot of the girl as she is signaling and shouting at him to turn in and a mid shot of the person on the bike looking around as he hears a voice. For the ‘I’ve strayed too far from the road’ there will be a shot of the cyclist coming of the road and into a wood.

Performance The performance will play a massive part of this video, because it has many sections where it links to the lyric of the song. This song is very challenging in a performance way because it talks about how moments of darkness can appear out of nowhere and that grey clouds can roll in and fill up your world but yet in the darkest of moments there is still rays of sunshine and beams of hope that get though even when times are tough. Most of the section that are in the video will be acted with little lip syncing involved, the lip syncing part will come from the main chorus part where the lead singer will be playing a grand piano, this including the lighting and visual effects. The performance will come from the singing part where we will have the piano, but there is a good argument for saying that the music video as a whole and the way in which it has been designed captures a particular performance element. The performance sections and information are mentioned below.

Page 4: Treatment sheet real

The will be a section where at the beginning the lead singer will walk into the performance theatre with no music playing and using only ambient sounds he will then sit down at the piano and I think this is a good way of introducing the theatre before starting the song. Theatre – for chorus part – this will be the main sync that will happen in the music video consisting of getting the piano and lip timing right on track with the song. House – first verse – this will include many items that think with the theme e.g. darkness and emotion. So there will be a very high need for real deep acting to represent the feelings needed. Smoke will be used to show the relation to the rolling waves and the feeling of the song Field – first verse – the whole point of this part of the video is to show some real representation back to the lyrics, and seen as there is no other design methods that I have found to get a camera that far in to the air to make this shot possible I have decided to use a drone to capture video footage of the lead singer on the field floor, this is a major technical element of the performance work of this video, linking it back to the performance, the movements and state of the performer will have to be quite direct and very big in order for the camera to pick him up from a distance away. Street – second verse – this is a further representation of the song where by there is the lead singer on a bike heading down a street. The girlfriend that he used to have and the girl that he is upset about is walking down a road that links on to this other road and she spots the lead singer and is shouting in a miming fashion at him but be misses the turn, he knows that he could hear someone but he does not know who and what direction from. The next bit is where the lyric read I stray to far from the road, this is where the cyclist veers of the road and the path and in to a wooded section. So in this apart there is a lot of performing involved. Beach – second verse – the beach part is a very interesting part of the music video that I have created for this keane song because it is going to incorporate a flash back in time and this I think will give the story and the video that extra meaning and give more understanding. It will mainly focus on the lead singer and show him going down the beachfront by his self, looking sad and lonely. The flashback will be back to a moment in time where the lead singer and the girl that he lost where together and happy and full of life they will follow the exact route that the single person did but walk together holding hands. There will then be a cut back to jack alone. This I think shows the meaning of the son g all in one go by presenting happy times with equal sad times.
