On March 16, 2003, Rachel Corrie, a twenty-three-year-old American, was crushed to death by an Israeli Army

bulldozer in Gaza as she was trying to prevent the demolition of a Palestinian home. My Name is Rachel Corrie is a play based on the diaries and emails of Rachel Corrie, edited by Alan Rickman and journalist Katharine Viner.

Rachel Aliene Corrie (April 10, 1979 – March 16, 2003) was an American Evergreen State College student and member of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) who traveled to the Gaza Strip during the Second Intifada. She was killed by a Caterpillar D9R armored bulldozer operated by the Israel De-fense Forces (IDF) during a protest against the destruction of Palestinian homes by the IDF in the Gaza Strip.

The details of the events surrounding Corrie’s death, as she stood between an Israeli bulldozer and a Palestinian home, are disputed. While an Israeli military investigation ruled the death at its own hands to be “an accident,” eyewitnesses maintain that Corrie was run over deliberately.

The Alban Arts Center will present the one woman play for one weekend only on Feb 25th and 26th. The title role will be portrayed by Courtney Nassar. Courtney Nassar hails from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and has toured across the country to present this moving yet controversial show. She will be at the Alban for one weekend only to share the story of Rachel Corrie.

Get your tickets while you still can by calling the Alban at 304-721-8896.

Gemini May 22-June 21Long-distance and foreign connections, exchange and trade will be favored. You’ll travel a fair amount and may

strike up a chance acquaintance who shares your views, ideals and ideas. Also, you deal with a kind of weariness, even disillusionment, that sets in. A month of exaltation, true spirituality, intellectual and moral growth – a truly cosmic gift comes to you. The preceding month had lots of highs and lows for you to reckon with. This month reori-ents you to your lasting values, and greater idealism is the result, in conjunction with heightened consciousness and conscience, that come hand in hand with true and sincere spirituality and faith.

You have a tendency to act and reflect automatically, and you could come across as an “open book” now. It’s a favorable time for solving problems and to work on improving your skills. Circumstances are such that you need to become accustomed to communication or travel. You tend to say what you believe now. Keep in mind that what you say or write now has impact, for better or for worse!

Forming pleasant, affectionate social friendships, possibly related to activities within an organization/society, can figure. You may meet someone through such group activities; consequently, your interests will be shared. The bottom line is that sharing interests with someone is what makes you happy this month. This way you can turn good relation-ships into everlasting relationships. You are more peace-loving than normal, somewhat detached on a personal level and more connected to the outer-world. You will be more friendly, more magnanimous but also more extravagant.

Cancer June 22-July 22Once again, you’ll have to focus your attention on money matters (legacies, trusts, loans or fund-raising) even

though there may still be some health problems nagging at you. Pending matters may come to an end; there could be a death, a legacy causing you sorrow and joy/relief at the same time. Clearing out psychic “junk” or ridding yourself of bad habits may be part of the picture now. You are more willing than usual to explore life’s secrets. This is an espe-cially introspective month during which you have the chance to truly uncover your personal strengths and talents.

Your responsibility and authority are likable qualities now, making this an encouraging period overall for schmoozing with those in a higher position than you, as well as for negotiations or social activities related to business. You are most charismatic and well-received on the job. You are socially go-getting right now, and success may come though your good managerial qualities or some form of artistic talent, or, indirectly through your spouse. People who turn your head are those who come across as especially competent.

February Horoscopes by Ask OracleAries March 21-April 20

Widening the vistas of your very existence is what this month makes you do. You still extend warmth and friend-ship, as well as cooperation at work. All the trends – which started last month will now gain momentum, focus and direction. You reach out to people in a rare show of warmth, connubial bliss and friendship. This is a rather happy, goal-oriented month. A lively agenda is promised, you’re attracting quite a bit of interest, and your energy for making contact with others is high. This is a time to follow your dreams and ideals, and to plant a seed in the form of a wish for the future.

You could find it hard to deny yourself anything this month. There is a certain determination building up within you to alter not just your life or circumstances, but practically cast yourself in a new image. This images needs to con-nect to the way you want to see yourself, in terms of appearance, health, physique, attitudes and mindset – all adding up to the quality of life plus lifestyle. Others find you agreeable and cooperative. People could literally approach you and appreciate you for who you are. You now know what works best for you and you have great wisdom inside you.

It’s an excellent time to take care of your health. You might decide to change jobs, and if your work has not been fulfilling in the past, then initiative to make changes should be taken. Such a situation left unchanged could easily result in health problems, just as it could to routinely overwork oneself. Undesirable job pressures may lead to depres-sions and injuries. Your services may be in demand and you could make some important strides forward. A situation on the job or with your co-workers may seem to be all consuming of your energies, and some review may be in order.

Taurus April 21-May 21Recognition, rewards, greater power and prestige, even your assets, property, belongings are enhanced greatly.

The time is being truly generous, and you deserve it. Your vision is practical right now, and you want to see tangible results for your efforts. More contact with authority figures is likely during this period. Recognition is likely to come your way whether you ask for it or not, and the responsibility that comes right along with it! Do what you feel is right, keeping in mind that you are at your most visible during this month in the year.

Your affection is expressed behind closed doors. Attraction to secrets and whispers characterize this month, although for some, it can also be a time of endings, relationship concerns, and vagueness. You are likely to throw cau-tion to the wind, and where boundaries between fantasy and reality can be blurred, so tread carefully. Avoid secret dealings and behind the door activities, especially the ones that are not clearly legitimate and justifiable. It can be better to be motionless and still, so you can feel the wind changing, than to row in the wrong direction.

Tri-Counties Finest FEBRUARY 2012 - HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY! Page 7

Leo July 23-August 22Now the focus shifts on people and relationships, ranging from personal to platonic to just professional. You will

realize that to help you achieve success your people skills need to be honed. You will need to be sharp-witted and alert in order to identify potential (or even actual) threats to your welfare/progress. It may not happen but it is good to be prepared. In spite of all this, this month brings you caring and sharing, that is, fine companionship, close ties with loved ones and an overall feeling of both togetherness and contentment. The emphasis is on “us” rather than “me”. This may be an especially busy time for people who consult or work with clients one-on-one.

A taste for the out of the ordinary is favored this month. Regular affairs simply don’t seem to satisfy. You will accept pleasure from anything and everything that expands your horizons, both physically and emotionally. Distant connections and places may for the most part appeal now. You have a tendency to be outgoing and liberal when it comes to love. Public relations work, promotion, and other such activities are favored. It is more about how you com-municate yourself than the essentials of what you are saying that helps influencing others to you.

Virgo August 23-September 22You may be making changes in your job/profession, in your relationships with colleagues and co-workers, health

and diet. There may be some mental strain, or perhaps financial difficulties, particularly relating to held-up payments that are still pending, salaries, servants, health and employee benefits or perhaps a bad debt and/or a check.Willing-ness to help and serve will pay dividends, both materially and in terms of a “feel-good” factor. Don’t expect gratitude and appreciation – just go ahead and do whatever needs to be done. This phase presents an opportunity to get rid of what doesn’t work in your life, while also discovering what does. You could seek distinction and strive towards per-fection in your work. Efficiency should be your goal now.

You may feel that you’re in the grip of a force beyond your control, since it is a time for great, perhaps even radical or drastic, changes in your material as well as emotional world. This month, a financial boost is likely, or you may expand money-wise all the way through your partner/associate. You are more tending to even differences in a part-nership/relationship regarding the sharing of authority, intimacy matters, finances, and other emotionally-charged topics. Close relationships are intensified. Either you or your partner shall demand a deeper unification.

Your physical appearance may be the target of your efforts and you may set out to improve or change your style/approach. In fact, you may be somewhat aggressive and have a short temper. Avoid being over-ambitious. Take charge of your life, but don’t bully others in the progression! This is an excellent phase for assertiveness and physical liveliness. Love affairs may also be stepped up. On the odd circumstance when an accident occurs, it is more likely to involve the head or face.

Libra September 23-October 22This is a very playful period of the year, when you are inspired creatively and emotionally. After a period of

self-protectiveness, you are now more spontaneous and more willing to take risks. A rich, fruitful and happy phase comes to you and you’re enjoying it. The spice of life is there for you in the variety of interests, activities, and feelings that you are bound to experience this month. Don’t fly too high or too far — risky moves, rashness, over-confidence that nothing can go wrong or just foolhardy behavior. Some danger or possible mishap may be lurking. Risk-taking, speculation must be avoided. Also rashness in an affair of the heart which might leave you hurt and scattered, if not shattered.

One-to-one linking appeals to you more than group activities or more casual associations. If single, you are more eager than usual to enter into a devoted relationship. In general, you are flexible when it comes to your affections – very willing to negotiate and make harmony. Smoothing out your close/special affairs is what makes you pleased. Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.

Activities that demand work alone or in deep concentration are likely to go well. It can be a time when past ac-tions grab hold of you – and this is not essentially an awful thing! This is natural – you may just as well do your best work alone for now. Some of you might get carried away and get involved with drugs, alcohol, or in covert activi-ties. There is also a tendency to negate or ignore feelings of aggression, and not wishing to display them, they are repressed.

Scorpio October 23-November 21House or office may require renovation, refurbishing or expansion. Perhaps even a shift for either the office home

factory/workplace. You want working conditions that satisfy you in every way, physically, technically and in the prevailing atmosphere and will take pains to achieve just that. You may also decide to invest in labor-saving devices/ gadgets to streamline your efficiency both at home and in the office. At the same time, there is a desire to retrace your roots and origins, to go back in time. This is a time to do what you can to build trust in your family life and a strong foundation within yourself, so that regardless of what you meet in the outside world over the next months, you have a secure place to return to.

You’ll certainly find something, if you look, but it is not quite the same thing you were after. Anyway, you still get the positive results for hard work and things seem to moving forward. Study and exploration brings rewards now. Opportunities to discover or renew something you had lost, and to gain some influence are presented now. You now have get-up-and-go attitude and a desire to accomplish things.

Closer to home, you will concern yourself with the welfare of bosses and superiors, older relatives and of course, parents and in-laws. Relationships with servants, employees, colleagues and subordinates, payments made, salaries and handouts, even giving to charitable institutions are the important aspects of the money scene. Establishing a happy and harmonious work environment through friendly relations with co-workers or tidying up your work area comes into focus. You could find that your talents or skills are especially appreciated. Romantic and social activities may revolve around your working environment.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21You still need to learn to relate better with others, but now it’s more on the intimate and personal level – the

exchange of ideas, innermost thoughts, personal beliefs rather than the emotions. Family ties, linkages of loving and caring now become sharing. Vital correspondence and contacts must not be neglected, or the necessary inputs, data and information for work-related projects, plans or activities. No carelessness of any kind to be made if you want to achieve your goals. You are more curious and alert than usual, and you could be quite busy with errands, paperwork, phone calls, and light socializing. Much energy is expended in understanding and adapting to your immediate environment. Siblings, neighbors, close relatives, friends, and co-workers may play a more important role than usual in your life.

All the activities you’ve been involved in over the past few weeks such as legal matters, love, laughter, social life, good times and parties carry right on. You’re really whirling in a waltz around the world you live in. But there’s a lot to do other than having a good time, you realize. The good times continue but so do the numerous demands on your time. You will have the energy, enthusiasm, confidence to handle both work and play with equal gusto.

Love (and lust) is in the air. It’s now innate for you to turn on the magic without even lifting a finger. More af-fectionate and appreciative interactions with your children may also figure now. Your powers of magnetism/attraction shall see new heights this month. At this time, you intuitively know how to position yourself in the best light in order to make a good impression on others. Any love affair begun now will be characterized by good liveliness, having excitement, and a fair share of arousing drama!

Capricorn December 22-January 20A time when you will truly need to “walk the talk”, stand by your beliefs and convictions. You will have a lot on

your plate and most of it will pertain to money – both for immediate needs and future gains. Financial matters be-come important or at least the main focus, but good moves have to be thought out. Property and possessions, rentals, funds, investments, and even cash transactions. There may be profits or income from property, land and real estate. Don’t try for fast cash or the quick buck. That doesn’t last and can give you a sense of false security. In fact, you might just be barking up the wrong tree in terms of career or personal gains through sheer pride or ego. Back your own judgment, but do so with caution and restraint. You know instinctively what works best for you. Just go ahead sensibly, keeping your own counsel as far as possible.

Your personal equations with people are directly relevant, where your sense of duty, obligation, and responsibil-ity are concerned and you maintain a sense of proportion and stability right now. Consistency and hard work are the keywords and shall help you in accomplishing your goals. You are willing to look reality in the eye and to take accountability for your life. Your admiration for authority is natural and helps superiors to look upon you sympa-thetically.

There is a marvelous closeness built up with parents, older people, in-laws, who might not always approve of your eccentric and strongly different opinions. This month, you are especially fond of the life of the home and family. You are more receptive and gentle on a romantic level, and tend to be sentimental or nostalgic now. Loyalty and sensitiv-ity in your relationships are more important to you than typically. You might focus on ways to earn money in or from your home. This is a calming influence – a time when simple pleasures most appeal.

Aquarius January 21-February 19It might be a good time to make a thorough scrutiny of the real you, an honest assessment of your face, figure,

health and assets and seek to implement a make-over where necessary. The truly intimate and personal you, needs to be examined minutely and where there is room for improvement, positive action be taken. You’ll need to establish good working relationships with colleagues, subordinates and bosses as well. It’s NOT a time to challenge the system! Stress and neglect both need to be guarded against too. A time for introspective self-assessment with a degree of honesty and objectivity. That way lies contentment, success, happiness – any or all of them, and it will come from your own changed attitude.

All your mental activity will be intensely personal, subjective and even egocentric. You are mostly cheerful in your approach to others, and perhaps somewhat intellectual this month. As a result, fresh acquaintances and friendships come to you, giving pleasure, inspiration and ideas. This month, you are most attracted to wit, cheerful-ness, and verbal rapport. You are especially good at mediating conflicts. Try smoothing over differences using your diplomacy skills.

Leisure activities, sports/games, fresh interests, great times with children (your own or other people’s). Above all there is really good money to make all these activities entertaining, as well as charisma and even personal freedom. It is a phase of satisfying achievements and equally satisfying affection that is mutual. You find it very sweet indeed.

Pisces February 20-March 20You will have a sense of awareness of your own limitations this month, leading up to your birthday phase, be they

physical, emotional or even financial, as well as a sense of being confined and restricted. There could be some rivalry, hard feelings generated that could trigger off either of these reactions. NOT a time to go overboard, in terms of self-pity, to see troubles where none exist, or attempt to solve the world’s problems. It might be a good idea to maintain a low profile and be less vocal. A time to make special efforts to get along with others – both professionally and person-ally. Changes initiated now may prove beneficial in the long run, both materially and otherwise.

An emotionally moving phase sets in. You may have a hard time defining your actions and your objectives, perhaps for the short term losing view of actuality and rationale. Some of you might find themselves being misled by others or by situations; that’s because of your own desire for a more glamorous life or a tendency to take shortcuts.

This is a time of bendable morals, imagination, and inspiration. There can be some restlessness when it comes to money and spending it–you are more inclined to want more

things around you! Financial security and enjoyment of the good things in life are important to you, although you also value simple pleasures. The ability to relate well with others might enhance your own personal finances during this period. This is a stable position for love matters and close relationships. You value those who make you feel com-fortable, and familiarity is more important to you than someone new.

Buffalo Chicken DipSubmitted By Adrienne Imperi - Valley Girl Consignment You will need:2 Large cans of shredded chicken1 Block philadelphia cream cheeseranch dressinghot sauceshredded cheese

Preparation: Heat oven to 350 degrees Open and drain both cans of chicken, use a fork and lightly break up the chicken so it isn’t so chunky. Next heat cream cheese in the microwave for 30 seconds or leave a room temperature while you gather ingredients, it makes it easier to mix if the cream cheese has been softened. Put the chicken and the cream cheese in a bowl and mix until it is thoroughly combined. Then add about 3 Tbsp of ranch dressing (the dressing is to taste but I find about 3 tbsp is enough but you can add as much or little as you’d like) - same goes for hot sauce - it is to taste so if you like it spicy as extra if you like it mild add a little less. I have found the smaller bottle of Texas Pete takes about half the bottle and that gives it a nice medium spiciness. Once you’ve added the ranch and hot sauce, mix until even and then spread the mixture in a 9” by 13” baking dish. If you don’t have one that size just use whatever you have - it will just be a little deeper. Once you’ve evenly spread the mixture in the dish top with shredded cheese - again as much or as little as you’d like. Bake it at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes. All the baking is doing is heating the chicken and melting the cheese so however long that takes is all you need. If you like it a little more done you may want to leave it in longer, I like the cheese to be extra melty and 20 minutes at 350 is perfect for that. Once it’s finished served while warm with tortilla chip or crackers. I think tortilla chips are better but some people do like it with crackers.

The 117-year-old Duncan Box and Lumber Company has seen two world wars, the Great Depression and 21 different Presidents. Founded by the Duncan fam-ily in 1895 as Beader Box Company, the firm built wooden pop and milk cases.

Delivering their product by horse and buggy, Beader Box was one of the few compa-nies that manufactured boxes and pallets.

During the World War II, the company re-tooled and expanded to help the war ef-fort. Operating three plants across Huntington, West Virginia, Duncan Box and Lum-ber stopped making boxes and starting making bombs and ammunition for the U.S. Military. At the close of the war, the company ventured into millwork and moldings.

As the decades rolled by, the Duncan family added a hardware store carrying com-plete lines of residential and commercial hardware. That store remains to this day on the west end of Huntington and is still open Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm.

Duncan Box and Lumber offers custom cut lumber, doors and hardware supplies, as well as other various building materials. They specialize in specialty and hard-to-find items that other hardware and lumber stores don’t carry.

After four generations of Duncan ownership, the Duncan Box and Lumber Com-pany has finally changed hands. Long-time, locally-owned Huntington business Taylor Iron and Metal have taken over ownership and operation responsibilities. Jim and Freddie Duncan are very excited to see the business run by The Taylor Family of Taylor Iron and Metal.

In a time when many small businesses find it too difficult to compete with large box stores, or bow to outside pressure, it’s nice to know that Duncan Box and Lumber Company will continue to offer the lumber and their locally-crafted millwork. Call Duncan Box and Lumber Company today at 304-522-7391 or stop by the store at 1034 14th Street West on the West End.

Local Business Celebrates 117 Years in Huntington

The Taylor family of Huntington, WV are very happy to take ownership of Duncan Box and Lumber Company, and plan to keep Duncan Box and Lumber open for many years to come.

Surprise Your Sweetheart With a Singing Valentine

Do you want something dif-ferent for your sweetheart? Send a Singing Valentine.

Kanawha Kordsmen Barbershop Quartets will be saying “I Love You” in song on Monday and Tuesday, February 13–14, 2012 (8 am-8 pm), leaving hundreds of sweethearts speechless in Charleston, the Greater Kanawha Valley, and Putnam County. The Kordsmen will serenade your sweetheart at home, at school, at work, in a restaurant, hospital or nursing home or anywhere else you choose in Kanawha or Putnam County.

Wherever a quartet appears, it will draw a crowd – and sometimes a few tears. Men or women can be on the receiving end – with moving results. Singing Valentines can be sent to wives, husbands, special friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, children, or parents. A Singing Valentine can be sung over the phone to anywhere in the US.

Making the ConnectionUnderstanding who your custom-

ers are and making a connection with them is a key to success – whether it is an educational institution or a local farmers market.

There are many web tools available today for individuals and small busi-nesses alike to connect with others. From Facebook pages for promoting small businesses to Twitter for one-to-one and one-to-many communications to YouTube for developing commer-cials. Web tools, such as these, provide opportunities for connections to be made, thus enabling relationship building on a one-to-one platform. How you connect with customers (both current and potential) and promote your small business is entirely up to you. However, one thing is certain – without you reaching out to them and beginning the conversation a relationship will cease to exist at a higher level.

One of the many benefits of building relationships with customers via web tools is word-of-mouth advertising. What better way to have a new customer, than for them to be referred by a current customer and to “like” your business, while spending time and money in your establishment.

If you would like to learn more about these web tools for your business, we (Tri Counties Finest) can help you and your business build relationships for a prosperous future.

These are all woven into a richly embroidered and fantastical story sung in English and set to the music of Baroque masters. With an all-star cast that features Placido Domingo as Neptune extolling virtues of mercy and forgiveness, it ends in celebration of a new day of joy, peace and love.

February 11th: Gotterdammerung/Twilight of the Gods Noon to 6:00 PM                     A new production of “Twilight of the Gods”, the climatic 4th opera in The Ring

Cycle. Producer Lapage has stated, “The Ring is not just a story or a series of operas, it’s a cosmos.” Cutting edge technology and visionary imagination are brought to the world’s greatest theatrical journey.

A tragic epic love tale of the power and curse of gold , treachery, self-sacrifice and

fearlessness. In this final chapter of the hero’s journey, Siegfried gives the gold ring which he took from the dragon to his true love, Brunnehilde who is now mortal. In a plot for each of them to marry others, he is given a potion, is transformed and takes the ring back which confuses and terrorizes her. Declarations, vengeance, an antidote restoring memory, stabbing, a return of the gold to the Rhinemaidens, and a flaming pyre reunites their love in death.

Local Attorney PromotesWeight Loss System. Why?

Because It Works!

You may have heard of Cynthia Evans, the Charleston trial attorney, but you may not know that she has a business as a referral-based marketing agent for a health and weight loss company!

Here is her story:

“I am only 5 feet tall and I developed a thyroid condition that was keeping me from losing weight. I had tried count-ing calories, keeping food journals, hiring a personal trainer, working out like crazy, other weight loss systems and fad diets. I just couldn’t lose any weight for a over a year! I heard about these new products coming on the market and I wanted to be the rst in WV to try them. They are nutritional products with a side eect of weight loss. I got on them, and without diet or exercise, I dropped 4 pounds in 2 days, 7 pounds in 7 days, and 22 pounds and 5.5 inches o my waist in the rst 8 weeks! Since then, I have lost more inches and pounds and am now into a size 5 junior jeans!

This has truly changed my life because I am in total control of my weight now and I am not on a diet. I have also been able to build a part- time income outside of my law rm by referring others and helping them get great results. I don’t retail, stock or ship products, but I simply refer others, just like I always have to a good movie or restaurant! I have never seen such a healthy, stable, lucrative way to help others. This is truly changing lives and it is something that anyone can do without sacricing the foods you love!”

Just say NO to drugs, counting calories, liquid diets, chemicals, etc.

If you want to know more about what Cynthia Evans is doing and want to lose 8-15 pounds in the next 8 days and more after that, contact her at 304-549-2647 or leave a message at her law rm at 304-344-8858. Add her as a friend on facebook!
