Tribute to Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper

April M. Douglass-Bright, MDDr. Bright serves as Division Head of General Pediatrics at Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper. She leads a team of 10 pediatricians who serve four outpatient offices, the pediatric inpatient unit and the newborn nursery. Dr. Bright’s team is dedicated to providing university-level care in a family-centered environment for pediatric patients. Dr. Bright received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Georgetown University in Washington, DC, and then attended the University of Connecticut School of

Medicine on a full scholarship to obtain her Doctorate of Medicine. After completing her Pediatric Residency at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, she was offered a position with Cooper in 1994. As an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, Dr. Bright supervises and teaches medical students and pediatric residents at all levels. She has given multiple lectures and presentations and has been involved in various medical and pharmaceutical research projects. Dr. Bright is a member of professional organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association. She serves on numerous medical school and hospital committees and has been an active participant in multiple community service events. Dr. Bright has been quoted in numerous print and TV news articles. She has been listed as a “Top Doc” in Philadelphia, South Jersey and SJ magazines, and made the “Best Doctors in America” list. Dr. Bright has also been the recipient of teaching honors such as the Ronald M. Bernardin Award for Outstanding Contribution in Teaching, presented by Pediatric House staff of Cooper University Hospital, and the Golden Apple teaching awards. “I absolutely love the interaction with my patients and families and I enjoy helping make decisions that guide the future and contribute to the success of Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper,” says Dr. Bright, who resides in Mullica Hill with her husband Walter Bright and their three children.

...for great care!Michelle Basile, RNC-NIC,

MSN, CCRN, CBCMs. Basile currently serves as staff nurse in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper. She provides high-level nursing care in a critical care setting at bedside, on transports and at high-risk deliveries. She also provides key support and education to family members in caring for pre-term infants. Ms. Basile received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Catholic University of America in Washington DC, and her Master of Arts in Nursing from New York University. She served in the oncology unit at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center in New York City early in her career and later spent five years as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Ms. Basile has served in Cooper’s Level IV NICU since May of 1983. In addition to her patient care responsibilities, Ms. Basile has been active leading unit-based projects for patient and family benefit, quality and process improvement, and staff education purposes. She also is a Clinical Nurse Preceptor, mentoring student and staff RNs, and has served as Interim Associate Clinical Manager for the NICU and Transitional Unit. She has obtained certifications in neonatal critical care, as a breastfeeding counselor, in neonatal resuscitation, basic life support, and bereavement support. Ms. Basile has received multiple professional recognitions and awards and speaks and writes frequently for professional groups and publications. She is a member of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses and Sigma Theta Tau International, a nursing honor society. Ms. Basile is active in community involvement and service projects in and around Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper. She lives with her 96-year-old father and her daughter in Voorhees.
