Trinity Talk Lenten Bible Study March 13 to April 18 You are invited to join us for a Lenten Bible Study entitled “It is Finished.” It is a six-part study taking place on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. for five weeks and concludes on Maundy Thursday at 6:30 p.m. "It Is Finished” is by pastors David Dorn and Jason Nelson from Woodlands UMC in Houston, Texas. The 6-lesson study is built around the final words of Jesus from the cross. Jesus' last words are powerful teaching moments that if unpacked, can radically shape our lives as we learn what it means to be human and the limitless love of God. Each lesson dives into the historical and practical significance surrounding each of Jesus' phrases while the study guide gives the viewer different spiritual practices to participate in throughout Lent. This study will be our School for Spiritual Enrichment offering this spring. We will not have a dinner, but will have desserts for each session. The sign-up sheet for desserts is located outside the Fellowship Hall. Join us starting the Wednesday after Ash Wednesday, on March 13 at 6:30 in the fellowship hall for this powerful study. Lenten Bible Study

March 13 to April 18 You are invited to join us for a Lenten Bible Study entitled “It is Finished.” It is a six-part study taking place on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. for five weeks and concludes on Maundy Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Welcome!

Pastor’s Pen Did you ever kneel before the cross of Jesus?

Metaphorically I had done so when I was in High School and gave my life to Jesus, but I am talking about really kneeling before the cross of Christ. Twenty years ago Mary and I were in the Holy Lands in February with a tour from our Annual Conference. In Jerusalem we walked the Via Delarosa (the Way of the Cross) up through Jerusalem’s alleys to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. It is iden fied as the place, both of the crucifixion and the tomb of Jesus of Nazareth.

When you enter this ancient church, reconstructed and expanded by the crusaders in 1159 AD, it is hard to get your mind around what the site must have looked like on the day Jesus was crucified and buried. It has seen a lot of building on the site for the first 1000 years of its existence and our ancient Chris an an-cestors where not much into preserving things historically. They were more into venera ng the site as a place of worship. Today the Church is divided up into sec ons cared for by different Orthodox denomina-

ons: Egyp an (Cop c), Roman Catholic, Ethiopian (Tewahedo), Greek, Galilean (Malecite), etc.

As I entered the doors of the church I turned to my right and walked up a few stone steps to “Calvary”. This Chapel is decorated and cared for by the Greek Orthodox who ornamented it with embel-lished iconography, statuary, and hanging lanterns. It was a bit overwhelming. I no ce that people are wai ng to crawl underneath the marble altar table to reach through an opening and touch the indenta on where Jesus’ cross is thought to have been placed. When it was my turn I bowed low and literally knelt be-fore the cross of Jesus!

While I am fairly certain that this is the site of quarry where Jesus and the two criminals where cruci-fied, I am not certain it was the exact spot Jesus gave himself up for our sins. None the less, it is humbling to be on your knees and bow in this most holy of sites at Calvary and to joined the million of pilgrims who have journeyed from around the globe to bow here.

I hope someday you will get the chance to visit Israel and kneel at the cross. Un l then I want to in-vite you to join us this March to tarry at the Cross. On March 6 at 6:30 we’ll join in an Ash Wednesday service to start the Lenten season of prepara on for Easter. Then on March 13 at 6:30 we’ll start a 6-part Lenten study, “It’s Finished.” Each week we will go through one of Jesus’ six final words from the cross.

In Christ alone,

Pastor Doug

SINGLES MINISTRY INTEREST GATHERING

We are looking at starting a singles ministry at Trinity UMC. This will be a ministry for those that have never been married, are widowed or divorced, but we would love to hear from you

and know if you are interested. What would you like to see in a single ministry; food, programs, activities, outings, etc.? On Sunday, March 3 at 6:30 pm we will gather in the church fellowship hall to see who is interested and to do some initial planning. See Jay Anderson if you have any questions and please come and join us.
