Help us Support the 2015 Southeastern Guide Dogs Walkathon By Kim Thomas

When my friend Stacey Cataldoasked me to join her team for the2015 Southeastern Guide DogsWalkathon in St. Petersburg on Feb.28, it was an instant yes! I know whata huge impact a guide dog makes forits owner and we are shamelessly ask-ing for donations! Stacey and I metabout 14 years ago and there isn’tmuch that can stop this gal from beingfiercely independent – not even beinglegally blind. With her guide dogBravo to assist her, Stacey will catch acab to the airport and fly across thecountry to meet her fiancé, shop forher family, or meet up with friends. She even runs with her guide dog.

These amazing dogs give the giftof independence and freedom to thesight-impaired. Stacey lost her sightduring pregnancy at the age of 23from diabetic retinopathy, but herindependent nature did not disappearwith her sight and that is why thesedogs are so vitally important to thesight-impaired. It is their guide dogsthat are truly their best friends, con-stant companions, safe keepers andtheir greatest means of independence.

Southeastern Guide Dogs breeds,

raises, and trains smart and loyal guidedogs and provides them at no chargeto people who need them. The schoolreceives no government funding, sothey’re counting on us to supporthealthy puppies and on-campus train-ing for visually impaired students. TheWalkathons are the biggest fundraiserof Southeastern Guide Dogs.

Stacey has had two amazinglyintuitive and devoted guide dogs fromSoutheastern, Discovery and Bravo.Bravo came into the family to retireDiscovery (who lived out his life beingdoted on by Stacey and her family)and now it is Bravo’s turn to retireand take it easy, as he is getting tooold to keep up with the diligent jobof guiding a sight-impaired human.Stacey is in the process of getting anew guide dog, and as her friend, Iknow a little about how much trainingand care goes into these dogs and howtheir trainers really strive to match theright dog to the right person. This is avery deserving organization and weare happy to participate in the 2015Southeastern Guide Dogs Walkathon.

Your home is your safe haven, andwithin your home, you have your spe-cial spaces where you can close thedoor and just let the rest of the worldslip away. There is no better place thana beautiful master bath suite whereyou can recharge yourself. Soshouldn’t your bathroom reflect yourindividuality? If you are consideringupdating your bathroom, you’ll wantan experienced, licensed contractorwho is reliable and affordable, and onewho will turn your vision into yourdream-come-true. You want someonelike Chris Snyder, owner of SnyderCustom Bathrooms and More, whospecializes in remodeling and renova-tion projects for your home and guar-antees that you will receive quality, honest work from start to finish. Lo-cated out of Pasco County, SnyderCustom Bathrooms and More special-izes in custom bathrooms, cabinet in-stallations, fixture solutions and more.

With a lifetime of experience inthe construction business, Chris Sny-der works side-by-side with his wifeFaylee to bring you quality work at fairpricing that you can trust will last.Chris says, “When it comes to hiring acontractor for a home remodel or ren-ovation, you want to make sure youare choosing someone that will walkyou through every step of the process, keep you involved in the project andperform quality work that is long-last-ing. Faylee and I work together oneach individual project to ensure thatour clients get exactly what they wantby a team they can trust. We don’tsubcontract and we always visit ourjobsites together.”

As a homeowner, it is your re-sponsibility to make certain that a con-tractor is licensed and insured; alwaysask about licensing and check theircredentials, because a faulty job could

end up costing you valuable time andmoney. Contractor Chris Snyder isboth licensed and insured to performcontracting work in the State ofFlorida. Chris built his first house withhis dad when he was eight years oldand has been in the building businessever since, and has had his contractor’slicense since 2004. It truly is his pas-sion to provide beautiful custom de-signs for his clients that are not onlyaesthetically pleasing but durable andfunctional as well. Faylee, a nativeFloridian, says, “We work together asa team because we just love being to-gether and completing a project makesus both feel accomplished. What bet-ter life is there than to work with yoursoul mate every day and be happydong it?”

Chris adds, “We love the TampaBay Area and are here to stay. Ourcustomers never have to worry aboutus not being there for them if some-thing goes awry. We make it our mis-sion to provide the best finishedproject the first time around, but ifanything isn’t up to standards, we getback to the project right away and finda solution, free of travel fees.”

In addition to a one-year war-ranty on labor for any work per-formed, you will always receive honestwork from Faylee and Chris. “Ourname is our reputation and we onlywant the best to be said about ourwork,” says Chris. “Many of ourclients appreciate that we work as ahusband and wife team…many timeswe even become friends with ourclients because we strive to build rela-tionships with each person whosehome we enter.”

Chris specializes in custom bath-rooms, but can do just about any kindof contracting work. Snyder CustomBathrooms and More has a long list ofreferences and works with you to finddiscounts through material vendors

that can be passed on to customers.Chris says, “I can get great discountswith the companies I use. We can usu-ally find what the customer wants at abetter price than they would get ifthey were doing the shopping on theirown. If you order something thatneeds to be picked up, we even willget the material to your home for in-stallation. We cover all the bases, fromstart to finish.”

The Snyder Difference:In addition to honest, quality

work from a licensed and insured con-struction expert, you receive a lessonin home upkeep and renovation proj-ects when working with Snyder Cus-tom Bathrooms and More. “We walkour clients through the process ofwhat we will be doing to their house,”says Faylee. “During our initial consul-tation, we sit down with you and findout exactly what you are looking for. From there, we are able to tell you ifyour project is feasible or not. If a con-tractor is not willing to sit down withyou and have a conversation with youabout your style, design preferencesand budget, then you should not usethem! Many contractors will just

throw around numbers with you, you’ll agree on a bid and then start thework. We make a huge effort to edu-cate our customers about their projectfrom start to finish and we are flexibleto meet their scheduling needs.”

Tampa Attorney Paul Prezepisonly uses Snyder Custom Bathroomsand More for house renovation andconstruction needs because he onlywants the best for his home and fam-ily. Paul says, “The first time I everused Chris Snyder for a significantproject was actually at my parents’house. They had a sunroom with aleak and I checked into a few differentcontractors’ estimates. I chose Chrisbecause I could just tell he was thetype of contractor that was truly hon-est. From my experience with con-tractors I have seen that most don’ttake the time to walk you through theprocess. From the minute Chris walksin the door you get an overall sense oftrust with the guy. He knew what theexact problem was, why it leaked andshowed me the project plans. Thiswas before I really knew Chris well, but I just knew he was the right guyfor the job. Every guy that came overbefore Chris visited was your typical

contractor… not exactly sure whatthey’re going to do and with no setplan. What sold me on Chris’s workwas that he explained his entire planin detail. He went and above-and-be-yond just patching the leak. He tookoff the entire strip of shingles down tobare wood for a true fix. Told us theright way it should be done and fol-lowed through. It has been a coupleof years and the roof has not leaked

since. Now, I use Chris for any job Ineed done around the house. He’s agreat contractor and now a greatfriend of mine.”

More recently, Paul had Chris re-model his bathroom. “I was home theday he performed the work on themaster bathroom of my home, so Iwatched him work. The guy justknows what he’s doing,” says Paul.“The bathroom looks fabulous now.

Chris is efficient with time and hisclients’ money. He bids fairly and he’shonest - what more could you wantfrom a contractor? He’s the wholepackage and his work is impeccable, which is the icing on the cake. All theintangible things that we don’t gener-ally see in the industry, he sees it.”

Customers Vicky and Ron say,“We had some grout issues with thetiles in both of our bathrooms. Wefound Snyder Custom Bathrooms andMore in Neighborhood News &Lifestyles, so we contacted Chris andFay. Chris and Fay are fair, prompt, honest, conscientious, very neat andalso have no hidden costs from thefirst quoted contract price. They ex-plained the process from beginning toend. duce or eliminate taxes on not onlysocial security income, but their over-all taxes as well,” says Ed Rizzotto.“A major concern today and what Ibelieve will be a concern for years tocome for pre-retirees and current re-tirees is how to obtain “GuaranteedIncome for Life” from your retire-ment and non-retirement plans. Un-fortunately many employersponsored plans do not offer thisbenefit when you retire. We willshow you how to put some things inplace now that will enable you to setup lifetime income down the road. This is income you will never out-live…similar to a pension. We spendmany hours with our clients to putsound plans in place by sharing ‘realtime’ tax, income and social securityanalysis through some of the mostsophisticated software. We want ourclients to leave our office with a bet-ter understanding on what their in-come needs will be in retirement, and how to control, reduce or possi-bly eliminate taxes.”

Then,at a follow-up appointment, we pres-ent a thorough plan for them.”

The Rizzotto Tax AdvisoryGroup offers guidance to each in-vestor based on their unique invest-ment profile while focusing on theirfinancial goals. “Many people areconcerned with the economy right

now and preservation of funds is veryimportant,” says Ed. “Saving ontaxes, reducing or eliminating taxa-tion on social security and protectingthe financial wellbeing of a spouseafter another’s death – those arethings that my clients are concernedabout. To me, the tax return is themost important document the clientowns, that’s why it is the first thingwe look at when the client meets usfor their initial appointment. If thereis an investment or change that couldcause a taxable event, we know thatup front.”

have changed jobs about every five toseven years, and many of those peopleleft their retirement plans at their oldemployers (i.e. 401k, 403b, and 457plans, etc). Many of these plans canbe rolled over to individual IRAs orRoth IRAs, thus giving the clientmore control and the ability to havesomeone to advise them. We feel it isimperative for those people ages 59 -1/2 or older who are still employedto become educated on a very signifi-cant act signed into law by congressover eight years ago that changed therules governing IRAs, 401(k)s,403(b)s and 457 plans, what their op-tions are and what they can do to pre-pare for their family’s financialfuture.”

You getLIADO’s 12th Annual San GennaroFesta in Safety Harbor! This will markthe 12th year that the remarkableladies of LIADO (“Le Italo-AmericaneDi Oggi” or “The Italian-AmericanWomen of Today”) have put on theAnnual San Gennaro Festa, so markyour calendars for Saturday and Sun-day the 21st and 22nd of February, grab your closest friends and your ap-petite, and “andiamo!”

LIADO’s San Gennaro Festa isheld every year down at the SafetyHarbor Marina, which is right next tothe Safety Harbor Spa, making thislively street fair convenient to the en-tire Bay Area. The San Gennaro Festais quite a big deal; in fact, people travelfrom all over Florida and beyond tocome to this incredible and excitingevent.

Here’s a little history for you. San

Gennaro (or Saint Januarius) is the pa-tron saint of Naples, Italy, so it makessense that the original Feast of SanGennaro would take place there! When Italians settled in the UnitedStates they wanted to continue to cele-brate the saint’s feast day, and so theFeast of San Gennaro has taken placeeach year in Little Italy, New Yorksince 1926. Part street fair, part familyreunion, The Feast of San Gennarogrew in popularity and now more thana million people gather there each yearas a way to celebrate their shared Ital-ian heritage, culture, and of courseculinary superiority, I mean expertise.

From Little Italy to Safety Harbor,LIADO’s San Gennaro Festa has thesame goal: To share and celebrate theirItalian Heritage with the world. Cele-brating in Florida in February to avoidthat pesky hurricane season, LIADO’sSan Gennaro Festa draws quite acrowd and is a wonder to behold.

All for a Great Cause!LIADO’s San Gennaro Festa is

actually a fundraiser that goes to sup-port a great many local causes includ-ing The Alzheimer’s Association ofFlorida (Gulf Coast Chapter), AutismSpeaks, Children’s Cancer Center,Children’s Cancer Research Group @USF, The Safety Harbor Public Li-brary, and many more. Additionally, through their scholarship program,LIADO has awarded more than$110,000 to deserving students whoare dedicated to furthering their edu-cation.

You Had Me At Meatballs!Let’s be honest, there’s nothing

quite like Italian cooking, and when itcomes to meatballs, nobody does itbetter. I’m sure you make a decentmeatball, but last year, the meatballs atLIADO’s San Gennaro Festa were sogood, that they sold out of thousandsof them in the first day. That’s whatI’m talking about. I’m talking aboutmeatballs worth waiting in line for,and I’m telling you, they’re makingeven more this year.

Of course, this year’s Festa willoffer a plethora of other Italian cuisinefrom Italian sausage and peppers tohomemade pasta fagioli, not to men-tion the desserts – from cannoli tozeppoles (those are Italian dough-nuts!). If you’re so inclined, you caneven participate in one of the meatballor cannoli eating contests!

There will also be live entertain-ment throughout the Festa! The Im-pacs will keep everyone on their feet, and Joey Dee will perform live onSunday! Entertainment is definitelypart of the Italian culture, and sponta-neous dancing has been known to

Christina says that with the helpof their manager Brianna, they arefully staffed with top-notch employ-ees. With a fresh crew, they haveworked hard for good rapport, mak-ing sure to create a family atmospherethat makes everyone happy, from thestaff to the diners. They revamped thedécor and Giuseppe made the menuhis own by bringing his own Sicilianrecipes and using only the freshestingredients.

Your food is made-to-order atVolo Di Ragazzi’s because Giusepperefuses to settle on anything less thanfresh food. It is well worth waiting acouple of minutes longer! Giuseppemakes his own dough and a savory, slightly sweet sauce from scratch.Their house dressing is made fromscratch – even their bread crumbs fortheir meatballs are made from theirown homemade bread.

Because your food is made whenyou order it you can ask for your foodjust the way you want it. If you wantto add lemon to your made-to-orderAlfredo sauce, all you have to do isask! Do you love cheese in the crust of

your pizza? Giuseppe will add it rightafter he hand tosses your dough; justlet your waiter know. If you’ve neverhad Volo Di Ragazzi’s ChickenMarsala, I recommend it. It’s madewith an imported Marsala wine thatmakes for a flavorful sauce. Like allentrees, it’s served with your choiceof pasta and soup or salad.

Christina says that their vegetablelasagna gets rave reviews even frommeat lovers, and is a great lower car-bohydrate alternative. It’s made ofeggplant, spinach, zucchini, summersquash, and mushrooms layered inmozzarella Parmesan cheese, tomatosauce and a bit of Alfredo sauce.Giuseppe’s cousin has been training inthe kitchen and has created a versionof chicken wings that he seasons, bakes, and then fries to perfection. Hecan double bake them if customers areon a gluten-free diet or prefer themthat way. You can also always ask forgluten free pasta at Volo Di Ragazzi’s.

Ed and Joann Pasco come toVolo Di Ragazzi’s every time they can.Joann says, “It’s the best Italianrestaurant in all of Pasco County.Brianna knows exactly what I orderedlast time. Tonight I’m having a can-noli too, because my neighbor who

was from Sicily use to make cannolisand hers were the best in the world. Iwanted to get one as good as thatagain so I ordered it here.”

Volo Di Ragazzi’s Italian Restau-rant and Pizzeria has monthly specialsthat make it easy to try new authenticItalian food. Listening to howChristina and Giuseppe test and then
