How you get triple E.

EEEV is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito.

Diagnosis is based on tests of blood or spinal fluid.

Symptoms usually appear 4 to 10 days after the bite of an infected mosquito.

It generally takes from 3 to 10 days to develop symptoms of EEE after being bitten by an infected mosquito

Eastern equine encephalitis occurs mainly in young children and in persons over age 55.

• Approximately 220 reported illnesses. in the US 1964-2004.

• Mostly found along the Eastern seaboard of the United States and on the Eastern Gulf coast.

• Some people might not have any symptoms but some have a range from mild flu-like symptoms or come and death.

• Symptoms usually occur 4-10 days after the bite.

• The disease is fatal to about half of those who develop severe symptoms. Of those who survive, many suffer permanent brain damage.

• It was first recognized in Massachusetts in 1831. 75 horses died of this disease.

• Now they have ways to check if you have it and then you can try to get rid of it if you catch it early enough.

• The vaccinations for Triple E are WEE, VEE, and tetanus. • The virus activity has increased greatly since 2004.• Between 2004 and 2006 10 human cases were reported.• Some animals that have carried triple are the ring-necked pheasant,

emu, quail, horses, ostriches and ducks.• Most animals died.• The disease actually started in birds and then spread to mostly

mosquitoes.• Once you get bit you are on antibiotics.

History.• In Lebanon Maine, Last Saturday a man names Thomas

J. Ledue heard that there was a horse that just died from Triple E. He assigned that all kids would be inside for recess, and for the school campus to be cleared on Tuesday so that could get the area sprayed

• Tom later said “I know that the chances of my kids getting Triple E, is slim.” He also aids that the temperature has dropped and he has also aided in killing mosquitoes.

• The horse was a private family farmed horse. The horse started getting symptoms and then unfortunately died the

next day.
