The “SaddlebrookConcept”

The Saddlebrook Design Team strove from day one to create a “joint-use facility that really works!” The excitement of three groups with similar goals-- lifetime learning, reading, fitness, and community-- culminate here.

The unifying Commons space is the “Front Porch” to all partners. Functioning much like the front porch of a home, it is a welcoming place for meetings, gatherings, art, display, entry and security. The Commons supports the cooperative and integrated services within this landmark facility.

Project Description

The Saddlebrook Joint-Use Facility project is the result of collaboration between the Omaha Public Schools, Omaha Public Library and City of Omaha Parks and Recreation in the creation of a community-based, public- use facility.

The design of the Saddlebrook Joint-Use Facilityrepresents a joining of diverse entities and services into a single, dynamic whole. This facilitates cooperation in reachinggoals, teaching lessons, and shows life long learning and fitness in action. The 111,000 SF facility is organized around a central “Commons” hub, which services as the circulatory and symbolic center of the building. Views from all three entities’administrative/ informational desks provide excellent visibilityof the Commons activities and approaches. The building is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2009.
