To be shaken out of the ruts of ordinary perception, to be shown for a few timeless hours the outer and inner world, not as they appear to an animal obsessed with survival or to a human being obsessed with words and notions, but as they are apprehended, directly and unconditionally, by Mind at Large — this is an experience of inestimable value to everyone.”
--Aldous Huxley
Taking psychedelic drugs can be quite an experience, good or bad, and without proper planning, a bad trip is easy to have. How-ever, if you plan properly, you can give yourself the best chance of having a meaningful or at least enjoyable time. Use these tips as well as other resources (check page four of this brochure!) to learn how to have the best time possible the first time you trip.
Four Tips for Helping Someone Having a Bad Trip
1. Create a safe space Make sure the person is in a place that’s com-
fortable and not too loud or busy. Make sure there aren’t too many people around. Also be sure to keep a person having a bad trip away from dangerous things
like windows or sharp objects.
2. Sitting, not guiding Sit with the person and let them know you’re with them. Don’t force them to do anything, just talk
if they want to.
3. Talk through, not down Remind the person that what they’re going through is temporary. Ask them questions you know they can answer. Let them tell you what they’re feel-
ing if they want to.
4. Difficult is not the same as bad Many people have challenging trips but learn
valuble things about themselves and the world i the process. Help a person having a bad time get through
the difficult part, remembering that there may be something valuble to gain from it.
