The Department of Psychology organised an awareness campaign on World Suicide Prevention Day to spread awareness about Suicide and its prevention on 27 August 2015. All the students showed immense interest in knowing as well as creating awareness about one of the most alarming issue in today's society. With this objective, few competitions related to the theme of “SUICIDE PREVENTION” were held for the psychology as well as other students of AIGS. Collage making, Face Painting and Slogan writing were the competitions held for the students. Five groups with three members each took part in the collage competition where their creativity and understanding about the theme was depicted. While few teams focused on the pictorial representation of pain and ways to overcome it, others focused on lending a helping hand and motivating people to observe and assist the needy. Another five groups with two members in each group took part in the face painting competition. While few teams focused on depicting the difference between suicide and natural death, the others stressed on the need to look at life from a positive perspective. SEPTEMBER 3, 2015

The Department of Psychology with the theme of “suicide prevention” had organised an activity on 3 September 2015, which was a Role play session on 'Telephonic counselling' in preventing suicide. Three teams participated from department of psychology and each team had two participants, one being the person who wants to commit suicide and the other being the counsellor - over phone. While the person who wants to commit suicide calls up the helpline for just sharing his/her feelings for the one last time, the role of the counsellor is to analyse, understand, empathise and convince the person that suicide is not the only solution, thereby saving the person. Each team exhibited their skills innovatively. While few focused on the need for

being a good role model, empathy and reflection, the others focused on the positive aspects teaching them positive reappraisal. Overall, the session focused on all the perspectives while addressing the client through a holistic approach. Students played the role of both the counsellor and the client. They came up with high intensity problems related to family and drug abuse and how to help those through counselling in a simple manner. The session came out to be fruitful in making the psychology students understand how to help a person over the phone in emergency situations.
