TRANSCRIPT
Dear Readers,
July received its fair share of monsoon and brought much needed respite from heat. It also brought good news to Mumbaikars of
the rising lake levels which supply water to Mumbai city, who were otherwise facing 10% water cut amid fears of a poor
monsoon. The farming community can now hope for favourable conditions for a good crop this season. However, the cost of
essential food items, especially vegetables, remained very high, hitting the common man hard. With the reasonably good rains,
though less than normal, a drought like situation stands averted. For a change, our MET dept seem to have got their predictions
somewhat right!
The middle-east crises do not seem to show any signs of relenting. The conflict in west bank only escalated despite a truce, and
the ISIS unleashing terror in Iraq forcing the minorities to flee towards safer havens, while a confused and unorganized Iraqi
political system at the helm looks on. The issues in Ukraine having ramifications of international nature are far from over despite
UN sanctions. Overall, the political scenario world over, is not convincing enough to believe that the religious and regional
fanaticism unleashing genocides of minorities will be ending soon. The world leaders should come together and think of a solution
that would put an end to these barbaric acts which are aimed at imposing narrow political objectives on innocent people whose
religious and personal liberty are curtailed and face execution. We hope the perpetrators of wars and crimes are given the divine
wisdom to discern their role correctly and act prudently so as to ensure and uphold the dignity and respect for human lives,
values and liberty.
As indicated in the last month’s newsletter, the Company has launched the “Amnesty Scheme” for Ethics for all Tata Power
employees, from 29th July to 15th August 2014. This is a life time opportunity offered to employees for a limited period, to relieve
of their burden of negative emotions perhaps caused by violation of TCOC. It would look very strange for a company that is
already adjudged as the best ethical organization in India by an international agency, to go in for such a scheme for its
employees! The aim is to exercise a last mile effort to cleanse any dark spots on the career of any employee who is afforded an
opportunity to confess and get rid of his/her guilt which would have been otherwise causing severe stress on the employee,
leading to loss of focus or concentration at work, irritation, anger etc., and give them a renewed and regained confidence,
courage and trust.
When talking about ethics, many people often make or say ‘politically right’ statements but they are not necessarily the true
facts. It is also observed that some people indulge in telling white lies which are not directly harmful to others, but is capable of
creating a guilty conscience for self. For example, someone reports sick one day, but actually bunked work for some personal
reasons. Someone will report late for work saying he had a flat tyre on the way. Invariably and unfortunately, many such people
actually end up sick or having to tow their vehicle to the workshop. Ethics is a matter of the heart! I will share a small
incident where a parent writes a leave letter to the School Principal for his son. The boy was feeling lazy to go to School that day
after a party the previous night at home, and wants his father to inform the School that he was sick and would not attend the
school. The parent wrote in the letter this way: Sir, my son Ramesh has asked me to inform you that he is unwell and
cannot come to school. Actually, he had a late night after a family-get-together at home, and he wants to remain
home to catch up with his cousins. I would request you to grant him leave. Here we would find a father telling the truth
rather than hiding the fact and does not support his son to tell a white lie! We as parents must correct our children to be truthful
and genuine!

Visit To Dialogue In The Dark
This is the time when i was at Hyderabad at the verge of completing my course. Getting bored in
the evening , i would mostly visit , hyper city maul very close to my house .
Each time i would go for movies , i would cross a shop with board saying “Dialogue in the dark “ the model of one boy & one girl sitting , seemed they were busy in discussion , each time i would pause at the shop , making my own presumptions , thinking it was for teenagers , for some official purpose would walk past the place , until finally my son came for holidays to Hyderabad
and pastured me for viist to dialogue in the dark, we were also expecting some guest same time , so we decided we would go together .
It was 14th August 2013, when we finally went and enquired how and what was it , they gave brief description , we being fascinated agreed and bought tickets for an hour program.
Withen few moments , a person came gave all of us one stick in hand and ushered us in a dark room , we were instructed to hold each others hand , their person was leading and we all were suppose to follow .It was a very wierd experience for me , the person lead us towards a room
where it was pitch dark nothing could be seen , he guided us individually all five of us towards a chair by John as he introduced himself , we all sat down , we were offered water to drink, loud
music was going in the room or hall what ever would have been . The ambience was quiet comfortable and we adjusted , we started enjoying and talking amongst ourselves in the mean time John took order for soup , withe few moments we were given soup & starters according to our orders veg , non veg . Than came chance to order main course , same again some wanted veg while others non veg , as we were unable to visualise anything John instructed us in detail, after the dinner was served where which food item kept towards our left , right or center and as
he instructed we started eating finding all food items as he informed us , while John was serving food , My children asked him , how can he see the items and tell what food item is placed where , were they wearing some special goggles by which they could see in the dark , John maintained silence not reply anything , he only asked how was the food.
After our dinner was over another man named Ajay came and told all of us to put our one arm on
each others shoulder , again it was pitch dark we were lead by Ajay and all of us followed , we could sense we were entering park , with our hands we could feel the trees , plants of different kinds , cactus and smell the lovely flowers, we heard , birds chirping and heard the fountains gushing sound , it was an amazing experience .Next our trip was taken over by Shell , he took us for boating , for which we had to cross a small over bridge holding each other hand in chain , we sat in boat and went sailing in the boat in an artificial lake , it took 15 minutes for the boat
activity .Having completed boating we were guided to a maul , here each of us was give stick , all of us wre holding on to each other stick in sequence , the maul had several items , we took a round of the small maul and each of us took coffee or ice cream from the stall, to pay money in the dark seemed very difficult and impossible for us , yet i took out money pretending it would be Rs. 100/ - but the person at the counter toold us it was RS. 500 so the rest of money he returned , stunned at how could he see how much money we paid him , I enquired him how was he able to see , we thought might be using some magical set of goggles or spects we proceeded further .
After finishing our lovely journey at Dialogue in the dark , we came out in the lights and were
stunned to find that all the people who guided us to different activities were totally blind .
It was optimum mix of fun , adventure and learning that life was beautiful even when we were in
pitch dark , we also analysed the difficulty of people without sight. Dialogue in the dark was a unique experience , where all activities take place in complete darkness, it puts you in every day situations –like crossing the road, going to super market, garden, restaurants – but in darkness , awakening the senses and deepening self awareness.
Guides take people through an unforgettable journey, opening you up to a new way to see the
world .
The concept of Dialogue In The Dark is a journey throughout led by blind groups. The tour lasts for an hour but the effects lasts for life time.
